Stop whining, this is not a sprint, it's a cross country rest of your life journey. Stay off the scale except once a week and do what you're supposed to do. Let your body adjust. Your sleeve is working just fine.

You've lost 45 pounds and arrive at the conclusion that your sleeve is "not working." Mad science.

I had the same hopes. I am about 10 weeks out from surgery. What I have realized is that I have NO IDEA what it is to be hungry. In the "before time" I just ate all the time, so I was NEVER hungry. Now I can't tell the difference between mental and physical hunger. SO, I just keep to the plan, assume it's ALL in my head and fight to succeed! Here's hoping that ghrelin helps...

I am a 3 yr vet of VSG and have recently begin experimenting with low calorie again (600cals) On my low cal days, it's not that I feel "hunger" per se, but I do feel empty and the desire to eat is overwhelming, especially as day turns into night. At night I think constantly about food and liken it to the obsessive need of a junkie or alcoholic . It is and is not, hunger. I can remember vividly what it felt like, physically and mentally, to be completely indifferent to food - how it was immediately after surgery.
I wonder if naturally skinny people, the kind of people who take one or two bites of chocolate cake and actually wrap up THE LEFTOVERS (!!) and actually forget they are in the fridge until they go BAD (!!!) ... I wonder if it will be proven that those people have almost no ghrelin in their system. Has a ghrelin suppressor been invented yet?

What was the final thing that you encountered that made you say this is enough? I have had numerous.
    1. Leaving a wife and 2 sons, Husbandless and fatherless.
    2. Not being able to get on amusement park rides with my sons.
    3. Not being able to take my wife to a concert, because i could not fit in a seat.
    4. Avoiding restuarant, movie theaters and sports complexes with tiny seats.
For me, walking through a a department store and some little child looking at me like im a alien had to be one the hardest things.
    Respectfully,
    Joe

Linaka got a reaction from Texasmeg in Approved - but Should I Go through with it?
I think we all go through the process of deciding. For me the turning point was reading an article that said if you have more than 50 pounds to lose, you have a 1% chance of keeping it off without surgery. I have yet to find one single person who regrets the decision to have the surgery. You will be adding about 13 years to your life by doing it and losing the weight. Good luck deciding.

Linaka reacted to VSGAnn2014 in They said "weight just fell off me" what does that mean really?
Having spent so much time at WLS online forums pre-op, I knew (from looking at so many monthly weight loss charts / tables people had posted online) that the 30-pounds-a-month losers tended to be people who were much heavier than me, men, and younger people.
The first 4 months I averaged 10 pounds a month. Then the next 4 months closer to 5-6 pounds a month. Then the next 6 months 2 pounds a month.
It never mattered to me how fast I lost -- only that I could eventually lose all my excess weight. And I have. And am maintaining easily.
And for the rest of your life that is really, truly all that you will care about.

Thanks for the love all. We just heard back the initial report and it is showing that the mass was a rare but benign lymph node growth. Not lymphoma. It's a weird disease called Castleman's which often grows in just one solitary spot and no where else. Treatment is what they already did: removal. And this cures it.
    We are SO relieved.
Now just have to resubmit to insurance for the vsg and I'll go in for round 2 In a couple weeks.
Recovery has been hard for 5 days. They didn't keep me in the hospital at all and I had a very hard time controlling pain.
After day 3, it all got LOTS better though. I'm still hurting now but not nearly as bad - totally bearable.

So can you eat like a whole chicken breast? A three egg omelet? A 6" subway sandwich? If no, then you have restriction. If yes, then I'd talk to your surgeon to see if he even did the surgery.
As for hunger, are you on a PPI or taking antacids? Your hunger could be acid. Or thirst. Are you getting at least 64oz fluids? Getting 60-80g or more of Protein?

Linaka got a reaction from BobbyD in Any bad experiences ? by not taking vitamins/protein drink
I think a lot of us are probably tempted to not drink our Water or take our yucky Vitamins, I certainly am. To combat this I think of things on a point system. In order to get the most out of this surgery you want one hundred percent, or why go through it? You want it to last, to have a great life! So every day, ideally should be 100%. I give myself 50% just for getting the surgery. The other 50% is up to me. Don't drink my water lose 10%. Don't take my vitamins lose 10%. Don't exercise another 10%, eat something clearly bad, bam, another ten percent. What am I left with at the end of the day? Feeling great at 100%, that's a great day. 80%? I'll do better tomorrow. But when you go day after day under a hundred percent, you won't get 100% out of it. So everyday, shoot for 100%!

Please don't do this to yourself. Please don't think you aren't doing enough, aren't changing fast enough, aren't getting there fast enough.
I think it's fair to say that most of us don't see ourselves accurately - we think we're a different size than we are. I think it takes time and internal work to re-focus the picture. This is definitely something I think about, even though I'm preop. It's definitely something I plan to get some counseling around. have you thought about doing the same?

Linaka got a reaction from thisfathasgot2go in Dr. Michael Feiz - Any thoughts
My surgeon was Dr. Feiz. He seemed nice for the ten seconds I met him before the surgery. He never went out and told my husband how it went. I never saw him afterward. Absolutely zero support from his staff. Nothing pre surgery for education and preparedness. Am certain I will have no follow up care so I am relying heavily on these boards. They did get my insurance to pay with a bmi of 33.4 so there's that. And from what I understand his surgical skills are excellent.

Linaka got a reaction from thisfathasgot2go in Dr. Michael Feiz - Dr. Feiz' office....? Anyone have any info to share?
My journey with the business of Dr, Feiz began at a "seminar" after which I was moved in to the process (assembly line) of procedures and appointments. After a seminar, a consult, a sleep study, an endoscopy I still hadn't met Dr. Feiz and when my approval from insurance came through, no one called me.I finally called them and they just dropped the ball. I'd been moved from one location to another and gotten lost in the process. I was assigned a consultant "Lupe" who was mostly not available and when she was, she was impatient and curt. I soldiered on. Surgery day arrived and before they wheeled me in I met Dr. Feiz, ten seconds, nice guy. My husband waited anxiously for the procedure to be complete and the doctor to come out and talk to him. I was also having a hernia repaired. one hour, two hours, three hours. Nothing. He went up to the window and was told the doctor had another patient waiting and did not have time to speak to him. During my stay at the hospital I saw the doctor on call, again no doctor Feiz. How did my surgery go? The doctor said "fine" he had no idea. Finally one week later I go to my follow up appointment, no Doctor Feiz. So, while I am sure Dr. Feiz and his associate Dr. Rim are perfectly competent (I am alive) if you want any sort of compassionate, personalized care, if you want your doctor to see you as a person not a paycheck I highly recommend that you find another doctor.

Linaka got a reaction from YCandy in To tell or not to tell...
It's a really personal decision. I didn't tell anyone when I had a hysterectomy because I'm a private person and it's none of their business. I didn't tell anyone other than my husband about this surgery. There's no place for the word "shame" in this discussion. Not telling people does not have anything to do with that. I wanted to focus my time and energy on getting well and following my surgeon's guidelines, not answering curious people's questions, explaining my medical choices or listening to the opinions of people who are not in my shoes.
