  1. I have been a member of OA for going on 20 years now. I was banded last June'08. I have heard such negative comments by OA members during their "shares" that I have only come out about being banded to a few very close OA friends. You'd think that the only thing that would matter to a fellow OA person is a "desire to stop eating compulsively", but the negative comments I've heard in the rooms was distressing. Frankly, it makes me want to go to less meetings. Yes i know that if I "came out" about this to more people in OA it might make things better, but I'm just not feeling brave enough yet.
  2. I live on lond island. I would prefer the conference to be in NYC, but I understand costs. I think that paying $150 to be in manhattan is better than paying $100 and being in NJ. People from out of town would get the whole NYC experiance instead of just being stuck in an out of the way venue in NJ with nothing else to do outside of the conference.
  3. Once in a while i give in to temptation and buy a small soda. But each time it is guaranteed to hurt going down and again I'm reminded why I shouldn't have bought it in the first place.
  4. catherine, I was always a steak and taters kind of girl, and now I find myself practically a vegatarian. The only kind of meat I dont have trouble with is ground beef. and that is in limited quanities. I had the surgery at the end of May'08. When I'm in the supermarket I pass by the Meat Dept without a second thought. It's become second nature to me to live on hummus, canned tuna, cottage cheese; yogurts; canned chicken & various cheeses. Like others have said to you, what we give up is minimal to what we gain. Good luck. steph
