I had a lapband to bypass revision....best decision for me...My suggestion...if you have lots of weight to lose consider the bypass.

So I started with the band 2005, sleeve 2012 and now gastric bypass 2015!! Yes I know failure is possible however the gastric bypass is the cadillac of surgeries for a reason. My stomach obviously is much smaller so I can eat much smaller portions. I have not had bread, Pasta, rice and really don't plan too, there are great substitutes out there. I have been in maintenance now since January which is fantastic for me never learned how to maintain before. I don't have a sweet tooth(carb addict) but I do indulge in rice cakes and paln tortilla chips. From what I have experienced you won't fail, just remember to always follow your healthy eating food plan and have occasional treats. Best of Luck!!

I'm almost 1 year out of surgery and I went from a 26 to a small (top) and 8 (pants and dresses).
I'm still hoping to lose about 20 lbs and go down to a 4 size for pants and dresses.
The picture attached was taken this past February at 173 lbs and 9 months out of surgery. I went back to Texas for a vacation and posed in the exact same spot I posed for a picture at my highest weight (345 lbs) years ago.

I'm definitely still a work in progress.

the left is my highest weight a year and a half ago, 442. I was a size 32 jeans and a 3x/4x top.
the right is current, 277. I'm at the lower end of size 24, and a 2x/sometimes xl top.
    You look great!

if I were you, I'd find a different surgeon. I was 429 when I met my surgeon and we sat down and talked about options and he said either rny or sleeve would be good, but rny would probably offer more weightloss. I was 386 on the day of surgery. I wasn't required to lose anything, but I tried so hard because I know losing weight does make it easier to do the operation, but seriously, unless you are like 4'9 or something and it's just inaccessible due to anatomy, it really should be gastric bypass IMO. I don't regret my rny at all and it would be better to get her done right the first time instead of suffering through a second surgery if it doesn't work out.

I feel a slow but steady loss is the best way physically and mentally. You are taking all the right steps, just follow your doctor instruction and it's great you are exercising! I had to stop In December because my low calories intake, but I'm getting stronger so I'll start again on Monday. ????

I don't disagree with you at all. The point of my initial post, however, is that my decision NOT to share does not make me a liar by omission or any other form.
When people tell me I have beautiful skin, I don't feel the need to confess my entire beauty regimen.
When people tell me they love my hair, I don't tell them I color it every few weeks or I'd be completely gray.
When people tell me they love my outfit, I don't detail the shops or prices I paid.
A compliment can and should be answered with a simple and gracious "Thank you".

That's a completely different scenerio. When people ask me how I lose the weight, I tell them the truth. I move my body a lot more and I eat a lot less.
I don't attempt to tell fellow fatties HOW to lose weight. I don't initiate the conversations nor do I encourage the conversations when asked. I am not peddling weight loss shakes or wraps and I am not falsely endorsing a weight loss method for fun or profit.
Could I regain all my weight WITH my sleeve? Sure! There are stories of people gaining all their weight back plus some on this forum. There are stories of people never losing more than 10 pounds and even of people never utilizing their tool at all (although how you could ignore it is beyond me, mine was definitely in charge for my first few months).
I am not regaining my weight because of my diet choices and exercise. I am maintaining because of me. Have I slipped up? Yup. Gained almost 20 pounds back (from my lowest weight ever) over the winter and have lost 15 of it by focusing on my -- you guessed it! Diet and exercise. Again, that's 100% me.
Did my sleeve help me? Absolutely. Am I lying by not spreading the news of my medical procedure? Nope. Not even a little.

Me too! It does kill me sometimes how people feel entitled to this information — how you did it and how much weight you've lost. I appreciate the fact that the majority of people in my life have simply told me I look great and said nothing more. I do generally try to put out the vibe that inappropriately personal questions aren't something I appreciate.

I totally agree with the OP.
I do have a beef with the WLS patient who took it upon herself to counsel me about obesity. As in, I didn't seek her out, she sought me out for this conversation. And she told me all about how she went to OA, got off sugar, etc. Didn't mention using surgery as a tool. She didn't lie, but I think withholding that info in this one particular case was uncool.
You do you. Tell or don't tell who you wish. Just don't seek out obese people to counsel about their weight and leave out important details, please.

I totally agree with you!I only told my parents when I got the band...to this day I am ashamed about the lapband failure, the fact that I suffered with it,gained back the weight, the damage it did to my body...I am glad I didn't reveal it to the world!!!You hit in on the head .. I just got revised to bypass...I told my best friend and parents...I am in my 50's...nothing to see or prove to anyone.I don't need to give a seminar on me and my procedure...not lying...just don't feel the need to tell everyone...even telling family or certain friends is a no no...they often feel the need to discuss your health with others even when you tell them not to...I can't wait to get to your success 5 yrs ahead...hopefully no longer obese and not a topic of discussion...congrats to you!

Ted Bundy was a good looking man and look at what he did here in Florida. He was even trolling through the area right by the junior high I went to in 1976/78 looking for girls to pick-up.
Perverts/killers are everywhere unfortunately, just in the shadows until they are caught unfortunately.

I've seen enough Investigation Discovery shows to know that even when everyone KNOWS someone is still no good, they still seem to be able to have no trouble finding romantic partners.
