Aireekah got a reaction from SaraSleeves in Numbness in outer thigh
Yes, I experienced it. I felt it right after I got home from the surgery, so it was a day after the surgery. Massaging my thigh helped and I still feel numbness but it doesn't compare to how it felt at the beginning. Sometimes it felt like a burning sensation and it worsened depending on the side I was sleeping on. Talk to your dr about it. My dr didn't really say much about it but massaging helps. Hopefully it goes away for good. I'm going on 4 months post sleeve surgery, btw.

I WENT ABSOLUTELY CRAZY A COUPLE MONTHS OUT. HARD TO ADMIT BUT I WAS NUTS, SICK, A TOTAL WRECK, AND EVEN BORDERLINE SUICIDAL. I HAD TO GET ANXIETY MEDS AND ANTI DEPRESSANTS. NEVER HAD TO DO THAT IN MY ENTIRE LIFE BUT I KNEW I NEEDED HELP AND I GOT IT IMMEDIATELY. I KNOW IT IS SO SO SO HARD FOR YOU TO BELIEVE ME RIGHT NOW BUT ALL THIS WILL PASS. I FELT LIKE MY LIFE WOULD NEVER BE BACK TO NORMAL AND I WAS TOTALLY FREAKING OUT ABOUT WHAT I HAD VOLUNTARILY DONE TO MY BODY...PERMANENTLY. BUT I AM SO HAPPY I DID, SO VERY THANKFUL, AND SO MUCH MORE HEALTHY.. IT WILL BE WONDERFUL FOR YOU IN TIME....

I had the same problem numbness from the breast down with tingling and burning. I saw a neurologist who diagnosed it as a B12, thiamine, neuropathy . The symptoms went undiagnosed for so long, I'm now walking with a walker with permanent nerve damage. The pain was primarily in my feet and I first noticed it most when sitting to use the restroom. I am now doing rehabilitation 5 days a week. Do not ignore these symptoms.

I had the same feelings post op. I too had to go through a very thorough process to get approved. One was a psych eval. They wanted to make sure that I was aware of what exactly was happening to me. So I was aware of what was going to happen so psychologically I had to prepare myself. 20 months post op and I still have moments that I am sad that I can't eat a full meal like the rest of my family or I get frustrated and I say out loud...sometimes I just wish I could have one full meal! But I voice it and the frustration is gone and I go buy a cute shirt.
Hang in there. It will get better.

I feel the same way. I feel angry when I see my husband enjoying meals i can't have and when I have to cook some of my favorite foods for him and my kids. I am not angry with them, it's more of myself for making such a drastic change in my life. I think... hope that it will soon get better.

I saw the surgeon this afternoon. He said that the numbness in my right hand is due to 2 things. 1- the way in which I was placed in surgery 2- the fact that my hand and forearm were used as a pin cushion! He said the feeling should come back as the nerve "wakes up" after another week or so. In the meantime, I'm supposed to keep it elevated, iced if desired, and to use my hand as much as possible.
As far as the numbness around my outer left knee, I was also strapped there during surgery and that he and others were leaning into me there during portions of the surgery and this too should go away relatively soon.
I have another follow up next week, so we will see how things go then!

I had numbness in my right thigh and knee that took about 2 wks to get better. I also had numbness in my left buttock-I still have some numbness there but it has improved a lot. Hopefully it continues to get better. My surgery was 5/28.

I had some numbness in my right thigh on the upper side. Once I went in for my post-op 2wk visit I brought it up to my surgeon and he said that mine came from the way I placed on the table as well as being in that position for a long time. He said that in due time that it would subside. It has gotten better.. Thank God!!

I share some similar feelings! I miss my comfort. I don't regret the surgery...not until I see for myself all the benefits it might hold.
I wish I could lock myself into a studio apartment for like the first 6 months because what I struggle the most with is cooking for my family still. - bless their hearts, I love them - but food is our enemy right now. So, making it, watching them induldge, even their compliments to the chef about how full they are makes me jealous. But - we do what we have to do. This was the right choice - you did it for a reason, be patient and all will prove itself.
    Good luck!!

These kind of thoughts and feelings are common during the first few months out. I went extreme (strong adherence to the rules, low calorie, low carb, no eating out, exercising everyday) for the first six months and then finally it all got better. This was not because I could eat more and go to restaurants, but because I got so use to the structure and routine that it became second nature.
So, my advice is to give it time. You said you lost your two best friends. Although they are not people, you may have to try and move on like they really were. When someone close to me passes away, it pisses me off to hear that it gets better with time. Because at that moment, the pain is real and its unimaginable how will your life could ever be the same without your "friends.". However, you learn strategies to help cope and have to reach out to others for support when you feel like you are losing it.
My best defenses are my CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy), OA (Overeaters Anonymous), and medication. I take Wellbutrin XR to ward off binging, food addiction, and depression. It's not a wonder drug, but seems to help.
