  1. My surgery is the 28th!! I'm so glad to know there are others who are determined enough to liquid diet through Christmas with me!! My plan is Unjury chicken (mentioned), some decaf peppermint green tea "candy cane" flavor from trader joes, some orange spice tea and to just enjoy my family.
  2. That's reassuring. I hope I have no pain, but I guess I'm out of luck if I do. If I had known I would've gone with a surgeon who at least gives me the option of taking them if I need to, especially since I have other pain issues that are likely to be aggravated by surgery. I feel like they purposely misled me.
  3. Ok, I am seriously freaking out about this, I am scheduled for surgery 12/28, I have paid more than $500 just in nutritionist visits alone and now, during my pre op appointment I learn that my surgeon doesn't give any pain meds? None. As in, I am sent home and told to take Tylenol. Is it me or does this just seem wrong? To create six inscisions and rearrange my insides and tell me to take Tylenol!? I am especially angry because when I had my consult, I was never told this. I had specifically asked about pain control and they said they'd make sure I was taken care of. But now that I have paid, committed to them, and am just a few weeks from surgery they drop this on me? Ugh.
  4. I make microwave cheese crackers. I take one slice of DELUXE American cheese (it must be deluxe) and cut it into 16 tiny squares. I lay them on a sheet of parchment paper (NOT wax paper!) and space them out as much as humanly possible. I microwave for one minute then in 30 second intervals til done (they usually take 1:45 in my microwave but microwaves vary). Sixteen crackers for about 80 calories and zero carbs (or negligible carbs anyway-less than zero). I don't get it but they puff up like a cracker and magically turn from square cheese to circle crackers. It is low carb microwave magic LOL

    Weight loss Surgery W/ RA

When I met with my surgeon he said the lap and actually says right on the thing to not implant in people like us. Our bodies will try to reject it. Because steroids cause blood sugar issues and the bypass helps the MOST in that regard, have you considered it? It also leaves your remaining, disconnected stomach to continue to produce gastric juices for digestion and if anything were to ever need "rebuilding" in your stomach or esophagus, the tissue is there to pull from without ever affecting your bypass. I have both lupus and RA, btw. Your surgeon will likely require that you come off steroids before the surgery and stay off them until your are healed. Other than that, there seems to be no contraindications I have heard of. Good luck!
  6. I start my liquid diet on Christmas!! I feel your pain. But...we will make it! Cuz, we want this (need it!) more than a meal we can have next time. I personally think most people would've scheduled around the holidays. To choose health over one last holiday binge says something GREAT about our willpower and mindset! Before you know it, we won't even remember fretting about this!

Darn! I really thought Fair Oaks had a bariatric unit too? Not sure why I thought that. I had a spinal fusion (neck) there and got a private room. Hubby slept in the recliner for 3 days (and nights) til I was released...bless him! I hope and pray for a private room again!! Llamalover, do let us know how your appt goes!!

Hi! I'm not far away (too far). I'm in Gainesville, VA, about an hour away via back roads through Quantico marine base. My tentative surgery date is 12/28/15 at Fair Oaks, which has a comprehensive center of excellence for bariatric surgery...I'm so excited! So you want bypass? I chose it vs a sleeve.
