    So weak and tired

    Are you taking iron?
  2. I was in a similar situation and was told to manage my weight loss so that I continued to lose, but very slowly, and not to get below 35 BMI. That way I showed the ability to lose weight to the insurance company and still stayed eligible. Good luck!

How long in hospital and off work?

I was in the hospital 1 night and planned to take 4 weeks off work. There were complications, 2 more hospitalizations and a 2nd surgery. Ended up taking 6 weeks off work. I have a desk job, but the real problem was mental, not physical. Just fuzzy brain after the 2 surgeries/anesthesias. (I'm also down 31 pounds in 6 weeks!) Best of luck to you!

    Telling my daughter...

I believe that trust is the result of openess and honesty. The bigger issue here is not weight but trust. Your daughter deserves the respect of an honest explanation as to why you are losing weight and the history behind your choices.
  5. @@Ashley Frizell, I just took your survey. One of the questions I was expecting but didn't remember answering was "When was your bariatric surgery?" Mine was 5 weeks ago. I think my answers to many questions would be significantly different if the surgery was 1+ years. Good luck with your work!

    Scared...advice please..Washington State

I had gastric bypass on June 7 and I did have a complication. A stricture developed below the pouch that required a 2nd surgery. I'm now 5 weeks out and have lost 30 pounds. It wasn't ideal to have the stricture and 2nd surgery - however, it was all over in a few days. The benefits of the surgery are forever. I was nervous before surgery as well - it's a big step to change how we eat for the rest of our lives. In my case, it was a necessary change that I could not effect on my own. I had tried for 45 years. Can you think of a better solution to your problem?

@mauimamma, what are you most afraid of
  8. After my June 7 RNY, I was discharged on the 8th and all looked good. In the meantime, my body was forming adhesions that would cause 2 more hospitalizations and 1 more surgery. Sounds like it's time to contact your surgeon.
  9. Age 64 - Weighed 240 on surgery day - June 7, 2016. So far lost 30 pounds.

    Possible revision?

Check your insurance policy before losing any weight. Mine would cover the revisions, but only if I had a BMI of 35 with 2 co-morbidities. Because I found that out first, I gained the few pounds needed to qualify before I "weighed in" at the surgeons office.

June 7th was my surgery date

My surgery was June 7 as well. I've lost 30 pounds! I'm still pretty tired and need to force myself to get out of the house at least once a day.

    Pill crushing ?

    My surgeon says 1 month.
  13. Going in to and out of surgery is a vulnerable time. My suggestion would be to surround yourself with people who are totally on your side.

Anyone else alone for the holiday weekend?

@@Oak Park Lorena, There's no way around it, being lonely hurts, especially on "anniversaries." Congratulations on turning to the forum instead of the fridge!

    June surgery

@@jannet41, I had gastric bypass. I am also a lightweight - my original BMI was 35 and I am 64, so this is a much bigger loss than anyone expected. Now the goal is to continue losing and then maintain - the scariest part!

    Facing Reality

@@Daisee68, maybe one lesson on this journey is to begin to know our body. To discover it the way an infant discovers its body - curiously, with no judgments. And to appreciate and love it as our home. I wish us luck!

    June surgery

My surgery was 6/7 - so 3 1/2 weeks out. All pain is gone - I'm starting to eat soft foods and down 26 pounds. Please hang in there, it does get better!

    Facing Reality

@@Daisee68, Thank you for sharing the pics - you look beautiful! You say in your post that you don't really identify with either the heavier or slimmer you. May I ask, when did you last identify with your body? I, too, am struggling with this. Thanks for the help.
  21. I am definitely noticing a change. Asked my surgeon's office about it yesterday and they said, yes - others had commented. Also that I should go ahead and schedule appointment with opthomalogist - it's due - because vision change is usually permanent.

How are the Post op people doing?

I've had a bit of a rough go since surgery on June 7. Spent one night in hospital - home on the 8th feeling good. Was readmitted on the 11th because I couldn't keep anything down. Spent 6 days in hospital drinking and vomiting. Finally home again on the 16th. Back to ER on 19th - vomiting and dehydraytion. After more tests, surgery on the 20th to remove obstruction and adhesions. Home again on the 22nd! Drinking, peeing, passing gas and bowels moving - interspersed with sleeping and walking - the life of a cat! I've always struggled with putting others first and not taking care of myself. That is changing now. I'm treating myself as my own "new born" baby, and asking for help when I need it. A little hard on my pride, but much better for me!

    Hospital Stay?

I had RNY on Tuesday morning, discharged Wed evening - drinking and using the bathroom were the guidelines.

    June Surgery

Surgery was Tuesday, 6/7. I went home the next day as everything was going well. Then, back to the hospital for 6 days with a bowel obstruction. After 2 CT scans and some X-rays, surgeon believes it was swelling - maybe exacerbated by small pieces of crushed meds, and I am back home. Still on Clear Liquids, but can have thinned Protein shakes. I am a band (2010) to bypass. The band was removed 3 months ago. Good news - Lost 14 pounds!
