    Severe dehydration

I'm so sorry kimjuly7! Yes call them when you can! We can develop a pulmonary embolism or deep vein thrombosis! They may suggest at home infusions if they are contracted with a company. My infusion nurse suggested getting a picc line placed unto in able to take in fluids. Since I'm a health care provider they will not let me go back to work with any iv' or picc lines. So you may want see what you can do! It's our health first! I've been trying to remain positive but, it's been difficult. With the fluids it seems to be easier but once I start getting dehydrated I get lightheaded, dizzy, and that nasty foaming in my mouth with nausea and gerd like discomfort. So I can tell I'm dehydrated. As am sure you can too. But please call your doctor! We made this change to prolong and improve our quality of life. They can help get us there safely. Best of luck to you! Please keep us posted on your progress!

    Severe dehydration

Thanks guys! I've had to get a home infusion Rn to come in and give me fluids. Today will be the second round. I'll do good after and can drink about 24 oz but after it decreases rapidly and then the light headedness comes back. I'm trying to force fluids but indigestion and nausea seem to halt that. So if after this second round I need to go see my doctor and plan from there. It's been a real struggle for me since this surgery. But I'm keeping positive.
  3. So I'm attempts to take in fluids have been sidelined by nausea, pain, and uncomfortable gas. I continued to try but no luck. I began to get lightheaded and very winded doing light daily activities. So I had to go to the ER yesterday. I spent the whole day there. I got poked 5 times before they got a very small IV in. No PE or DVTS. Thank goodness! But 2 bags of fluid later and tons of tests, I was ok. They said there was some swelling to the connection of my pouch and small intestine. They think that is why my fluid intake has been difficult. I see my surgeon tomorrow and I hope he can help with more fluids again. I continue to feel dizzy at times and hope this will all pass very soon! The scary part is the possibility of fainting and getting hurt. A woman did this when I was at er for the exact same thing. She also had a bypass but not sure how far out she was. I'm just continuing to sip as much as I can until then. Had this happened to any one else? Has anyone continued to have this issue months out?

    Taco

Omg I had a dream last night I was eating a chicken fajita taco with lime and cilantro! I'm just day 6 out of bypass and still on the liquid phase. Is it wrong to just enjoy the smell of food?
  5. Thank you guys! I really needed some reassurance! I'm going to try the teas. I've found that a lot of the flavored stuff I can't really tolerate right now. It's so strange. But this is my new normal and I need to adjust. Thank you guys again! ☺️
  6. So my RNY was on the 20th of July and I'm having great difficulty getting my 64oz in! I'm maybe getting 24-30oz a day. I was given the nausea medicine, the Prilosec, and pain meds. It helped but the taste of water, sugar free drinks, and at times broth makes me nauseous and I can barely take a sip. I've experienced gas pain with sugar free drinks and uncomfortable sensations with ice chips. I'm kind of regretting doing this at this poin. I'm trying to stay positive but what gives? I may need to go in to get fluids as I'm getting kinda lightheaded at times. I'm afraid to pass out or get a dot or pe! Ugh does anyone have any suggestions? My first post op appt is Thursday. And we are to stay on a clear liquid diet till then. Thanks guys!
  7. Thank you everyone for your thoughts and prayers! My surgery went great. i have a barium test to check for leaks. So, I still can't take fluids till after the test. I'm sore and my chest hurts from all the remaining air in it. But it's manageable. The walking is helping so much. Best wishes to everyone out there who will have surgery in the future! I'll keep you guys posted on my progress! It help so much to know what to expect.

    Light headed

Thank for making this topic! Are you staying hydrated? You have to go slow when going from sitting to standing. I'm 2 days pre surgery and have been feeling light headed and honestly kind of dumb. Like absent minded and easily forgetful. I'm thinking the lack of sugar and hydration. Have a huge part to do with this but, I'm hoping this will not be after my surgery. I hate feeling slow and forgetful. I'm use to being on top of things. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Pain management without NSAIDs

I'm sorry to hear about your back and knee pain woo woo! I hope it lets up! I decided to not take the tramodal because of the possibility of constipation after surgery. I know my ability to take in my 64 oz of fluid orally will be difficult fresh post and I will be provided pain meds during my stay at the hospital. But, the type of pain medication depends on my surgeon. Which I'm sure will be narcotics and those as well can cause constipation. I'm afraid of complications and don't want to leave anything to chance. They told us in our pre op class people can go a week or more with no BM. That opened my eyes. I don't want to be uncomfortable with constipation on top of a fresh surgery. Straining is not good. I know this is TMI but those medications cause that now imagine when im struggling to just stay hydrated. Not good. So I'm just pacing myself with last minute chores and taking breaks to stretch and rest my back. It's so debilitating and frustrating not being able to do things everyone else doesn't think twice about.

What if I don't want to tell?

So I told my immediate family and 2ladies at work. People talk. And I know everyone will eventually figure it out taken I'm a nurse and work with smart nurses. But the more I think about it, maybe it's not such a bad thing. Of course they will have their opinions and remarks but ohh well! I'm getting healthy my way for my life and to live to see my son have a baby! Plus, it may not be a bad idea to have everyone know you may experience dumping symptoms or even pass out. Just so they don't freak out and have some idea I just had a major stomach surgery done. Plus if you need medical attention they can advocate for you regardless of their opinions. I like to keep things private but this may end up saving my life if anything does happen. Which I pray doesn't to anyone of us!

    Pain management without NSAIDs

I can't agree with you more Dub! I'm sorry about your back and knee! Herniated disc pain is no joke at all! I hurt my back and my knee began hurting really bad after as well! The doctors kept saying it's my weight but for this particular injury it is not. Does weight increase your risk for injury? Yes. But that doesn't mean it was the cause of injury if you do that certain activity day in and out. Now having a 200lb+ person pull you down unexpectedly that's an injury! I've had been considering this since I was 13 yo! I hated being the "big girl" all the time. The last straw came when that doctor said that to me! And of course all the other fast medical issues arising. But this back and leg pain is really debilitating! I'm hoping this surgery will help reduce the pain and prove it is not my weight too. All I know is this is for me and my future health! I have been needing to take my tramodal these past 2 days but I'm trying to tough it out. And it's hard! I'm just focusing on the benefits of having surgery! Good by pain! At least to some degree. Good luck guys! Let's beat this pain!

    Pain management without NSAIDs

This is a great topic! I suffered a back injury at work and I'm pretty sure it's a herniated disk. I wouldn't know for sure until I see a specialist after my RNY. But they have me on tramodal. I told my occupational doc I was going to have this done and I can't take the NSAIDS. He agreed and gave me tramodal. I only take it when Im in a lot of pain. I usually do my exercises and get into a warm pool to help with pain. Then if I can't do anything even take my tramodal for pain because of work, then I take a Tylenol. Pain is no joke but I'm trying to manage it with out pills. It's hard! Best of luck to you!
