    NEW BREASTFEEDING MAMA!

I had my surgery when I was still breastfeeding my 9 month old. It wasn't a problem at all. I had to pump and dump the first 24 hours after surgery, but then I was put on pain meds that were okay to take while breastfeeding. My husband actually brought her to me and I breastfed her while I was still in the hospital. You can find comfortable ways to hold your baby even with the incisions. Be extra vigilant getting in your Vitamins and Protein because baby will be taking lots of your nutrients, but I didn't have any problems. Don't stress out. You can do it! And you'll be giving your baby a much healthier mama to care for them! Sent from my LG-D801 using the BariatricPal App
  2. I just reached my goal weight and I'm at a bmi of 23.5. I'm nowhere near too thin and nobody has commented that I look too thin. I could probably lose another 20 lbs and look even better but I'm super happy with where I am so I'm not trying to lose more. If I do, I won't complain! Unrealistic Expectations

Thanks! Yes, I do have loose skin. It's a little annoying and I hope to have it removed someday, but it's nothing compared to how great I feel. Way better than weighing 321 lbs. I'll take the loose skin anyday. Sent from my LG-D801 using the BariatricPal App
  5. Just keep eating right and exercising and you will still lose weight. I'm 16 months out and still losing. I'm only 1 lb from reaching my goal. I've had some major stalls. One was almost 2 months long, but eventually it will start moving again. Don't give up!

    Unrealistic Expectations

I have definitely had a life changing experience. I'm a mom too and really struggled being active with my kids. I usually just hung out at home watch tv with them and then sent them to the park with their dad when he got home. Part of it was not having any energy and part was not wanting to be seen because I hated how I looked. I've lost 168 lbs and I feel amazing. I'm not worried about what people think anymore and I'm much more energetic. I can take them out and have fun and I have no problem keeping up. Expect great things and make great things happen!
  7. I was almost 38 when I had my surgery. My high weight was 321. I'm 16 months out and currently weigh 154. 4 lbs till goal!

What did you just call me?

I had a friend ask me how I have been able to stay so thin after having 4 kids.

    Unsure

There are a small percentage of people that do have complications and it's good to acknowledge those because you really do have no idea exactly how it will go for you. But there are also huge numbers of people that don't have complications and do really well. Most people that I've heard of that have complications, usually get past them and end up being a success. For me, it was with the risk. I was miserable, in pain constantly and had some scary medical issues. Now I'm 162 lbs lighter and just hit a healthy weight according to the bmi charts and I'm only 9 lbs from goal. It hasn't been easy and I had a few minor issues in the beginning, but it's been 100% with it and I'd do it all over again if I had to. Your body will be better able to handle whatever health issues that come your way at a healthy weight plus you'll be able to enjoy the benefits of no longer being overweight. It really feels great!
  10. I started at 321 and it took me about 6 months to lose 100 lbs.
  11. When we were no longer eligible for Medicaid, we were given a 12 month period before they kicked us off the insurance. You might want to check into it.
  12. When I had surgery, I was wearing a size 28 pant. I bought a pair of size 14 jeans right after surgery just for inspiration. They looked so tiny and I wasn't sure I'd ever get that small. I'd try them on occasionally. At first I could only get them on up to my knees but they slowly were able to get on more and more. It was a pretty awesome feeling the day I tried them on and they fit! Now they are getting loose and I'm able to wear a size 10! I wouldn't buy a bunch on small clothes, but a few pieces can really help to inspire you!

13 months out. The first pic is at my surgeon's office right before surgery. The second one is from yesterday hiking with my family. SW 321 CW 165 GW 150
  14. I got approved with Medicaid. They required 6 months working with my doctor on weight loss but my doctor wrote a letter to the insurance company explaining why he recommended it for me and I was approved right away. It did take several weeks to do my appointments with the exercise therapist and nutritionist and I had to have a psych eval. I think it took 2 months from my first appointment with my surgeon to get the approval and then my surgery was scheduled about a month after that.

    Skinny spouses

My husband is the same. 6'2 and 150 lbs and has never had this struggle and just doesn't understand. He wasn't very interested in me getting the surgery either. He was worried about how it would effect my health. He couldn't go to any of my appointments with me, but I shared all the information with me and let him know the very small percent of people that died or had complications and that helped him feel better about it. I'm a little over 10 months out and 142 lbs down and it hasn't had a negative effect on our relationship. He likes that we can do so much more and that I'm happier and more comfortable with my body. He has been supportive, except for the occasional treats he brings home. I made the decision for me and my body and health and I think my confidence in that decision has helped him feel better about it.

    Starting number

I use the weight I was at the beginning of my 2 week pre op diet. I didn't do much dieting before those 2 weeks so that was probably my highest weight anyway. HW 321, SW 314, CW 188 surgery was 5/20/2015.
  18. I went sledding with my kids and was able to hike up the hills and sled down with them. In the past, I would have just watched while my husband went with them. It's so nice to be able to participate in my life now!

    RnY surgery

Good luck! I'm 9 months out and 132 lbs down and it's one of the best things I've ever done for myself.

    C25K

A few years ago, I started to do some running. I did all my training on a treadmill and eventually got to where I could run 4 miles without stopping. I then tried to transition to running outside and I couldn't run more than a few minutes. I'm not sure what my problem was, but I just couldn't do it. This time, I'm doing both treadmill and outside running so that I'm not stuck with a hard transition. Fortunately, my gym has an indoor track that I can use on snowy days.

    C25K

I'm doing C25K right now. I'm on week 2 day 2. It's going pretty well so far. I take my 5 year old out training with me and right now he is faster than me. My goal is to eventually be faster than him!
