jacks89 got a reaction from Dub in Alcohol, parties, fun?
I'm 26 and most of my friends still like to socialize by going out drinking. We're young, it's normal. I waited 3 months and a couple weeks. Didn't go too crazy just a cup of vodka and cranberry at first, maybe 2 cups max (which got me super drunk). I drink margaritas and such which, yea, I know is not good but it's not all the time. I'm 7 months out. Still losing and having the occasional drink or two with friends when we go out. Haven't gone to the gym just watched what I ate and walked here there, I've lost 60 lbs. (My current job is very exhausting, I'm constantly on the move). I'm about 35/40lbs to my goal weight. I recently got a sit down job so now is when I'm going to begin going to the gym. I tried beer (blue moon)...I don't recommend it, it kinda hurts your insides a little. Stick to liquor and sugar free juices for mixing. Always have a designated driver! Lol

I'm still in the process of losing but I'm about halfway to my ultimate goal weight I feel great! My body is adjusting to the thinner me as I tend to catch myself slouching a bit sometimes or sitting way back from a table bc of my pre-existing belly hehe I'm waking up feeling good about myself! I'm working my way to going to clothing stores even though I really don't want to lol I am energized in a different way and it feels amazing! I also gained back some of my spunk!
I'm a pretty nice and friendly person. My inside personality is finally matching what my outside appearance should have always been. If anything I'm getting noticed by guys and it feels kind of nice. But I have the foggest idea on what I'm doing..I never really had this kind of attention before so I'm kind of awkward and shy when guys compliment me lol
But hey in the end of the day I look at myself in the mirror and always say "you are looking great, you are amazing! You've made it this far and you'll keep going. You got this. I love you!" *I've had low self-esteem all my life*

Ewwww....a little defensive? Why did you post if you can't accept that other people have a different view than you do? Pot is a drug plain and simple. And if you need it to relax....well, what do you think an addition is?

For pain, maybe, but for pleasure? You're going to free yourself of who knows how many pounds and you want an artificial high? You're going to have enough troubles dealing with head-hunger, might want to stay far away from it, and have yourself a "real" high when you're free from obesity!

Many of us have been advised against gummies as inferior nutrient value. Can't comment specifically on that brand however. Ask your NUT.

I see so many sweeping statements, surgeons and nutritionists telling people to "never eat this again." At least with crap food, it makes sense, but to say you can't incorporate fruit into a healthy diet is ridiculous to me. I assume then, that you also aren't allowed any regular sugar, ever again... I can't get on board with being told I can't have something EVER. That's just not realistic.

Wow, never is a loooong time.
My team allowed fruit & encouraged low sugar fruits when I reached 3 months. Honestly, I barely was able to eat any fruit ( even though I craved it) at three months-belly was just still too swollen.
I have a small honey crisp apple several days a week & I had half a banana and babybel cheese today. I do eat bananas maybe one day a week.

I've heard that some just cannot process the bread in the pizza, Burger and such. Me on the other hand, was able to eat pretty much anything at about 6 months out. I do mean anything, including donuts and Mexican sweet bread and chips and fig newtons and all that unhealthy stuff.
Then I realized and questioned why I was so determined to go back to the foods that made me obese in the first place. So now, even though I know I can eat that stuff I "usually" don't. " USUALLY".
The best of luck and good wishes to you.

Every doctor is different. I had to do a 2 week liquid diet but totally cheated a bit the day before surgery. I traveled to TX and while driving around I saw a Chick Fill A and just had to try the infamous chicken and fries lol! But everything went swell for me, no complications

I know the feeling! Honestly I didn't feel like eating anything just Water it was weird!! But ultimately I had to get it through my head that it would only last a week. For me I was allowed, water, calorie free sports waters, propel, Isopure and the broths. It was very important to keep hydrated. I literally counted down the days till I could go to phase 2 which was creamy Soups, Protein Drinks with less than 5gm of sugar and 150 cals. It was harder to maintain the 60oz of water and 40-60oz of Protein needed but they said not to strain myself. After 2 weeks of that I'm finally on phase 3 of blended/pureed foods (which is gross!) But it helps trick your mind into thinking you're eating in a way they gave me recipes to help sort it out and stuff. Only in phase 3 (22 days after surgery) was I allowed to have yogurt so deff check with your doctor before trying that out! After 2 weeks of this comes phase 4 where you can eat solids, (FINALLY) just gotta keep your eye on the prize! Maybe make a little mark down sheet or something I have a countdown on my white board for the 26th when I'll finally be abls to eat solids! Trust me when you start incorporating solids like Soup, take it easy, I did a booboo and kind of rushed a bit bc I really wanted to have it BAD and it hurt it was like a major cramp lol just take small sips! Use a baby spoon if you must

You'll be okay! Don't worry they gave me something for the nerves but it totally knocked me out lol I woke up after surgery when it had all been done, felt like I took a nap and woke up to some pain where the incisions were which is totally normal! Good luck!!

Honestly, I'm right there with you on the whole avoiding going out thing. I'm 3 weeks out now? And my family is very supportive but they wanted to go out to dinner like we did before surgery...it was brutal to have to sit there while everyone else ate and I had a water bottle. They didn't say anything but I simply told them if they were to go out to eat to exclude me the next time. /:

This was one of my questions as well but like LoseitKacy said it's better to wait a full year I think. Even if it's just a sip of wine. I used to be a jack n coke and margaritas kinda girl but had to leave that all behind. Heard clear liquor goes down better though! Might try a vodka up, in about a year or so. Maybe clear rum hehe.

Yes. The question is SHOULD you.
Alcohol after surgery can cause a few problems.
    1. Addiction transfer- if you have a food addiction prior to surgery, it's a lot easier to move from one addiction to another when you can't compulsively eat anymore
    2. The way your body processes alcohol after surgery is a lot different. Most people lose their tolerance and are flat out drunk after a few sips. So don't ever drink and drive after surgery. Not even one drink. For someone who is alcohol sensitive after surgery ONE alcoholic drink to a bypass patient is the same as almost SIX to someone who hasn't had the surgery. Your blood alcohol % flies through the roof really quick. Some people have no problem with it but most can't drink like they use to.
    3. It's calories. As fun as drinking is (I'm 22 so I've only drank for a year and now I have given it up which is hard with my social life), it's not a necessity. My program has a flat out no alcohol for a year policy but not everyone is like that. I'm not taking the risk alcohol after surgery can bring so I plan on waiting a couple years.
