Thank you everyone for your responses to my post... It helps to know I'm not alone. I think for me, the feeling scared and nervous part has to do with that I finally found the answer to my very long struggle with weight and am so thankful and happy that I wonder at times if it will last. But, I am not going to focus on that... I am taking this gift I've been given and will continue to do my part by eating right, exercising, seeing my counselor, and remembering to stay diligent (as one of you said)... Life is pretty great right now!

GNC has a natural (unflavoured) Protein Powder that I love called Pro Performance whey iso burst. It has 40 g of Protein in 2 scoops. I usually add PB2 to it (adds flavour and more protein) and mix with Water. I don't do Protein Bars because of the carbs.
$3000 is a sweet deal! Congrats on giving yourself this incredible gift!my preop diet was liquids only for 5 days because my bmi was 30. I did it for 7 days just to be safe tho. It was tough but so worth it!
I'd advise that you buy compression socks for the flight home as blood clots are a risk for flying so soon after surgery. Also get up and walk on the plane. I had a blood clot years ago so am overly paranoid about them but better safe than sorry!
I flew to mexico and had my surgery july 11 and have gone from obese to overweight to normal in the time since!
    Good luck with your surgery!
    I'm so excited for you!!

At the moment (14 months post-op and below my weight goal), I'm not "scared" of regain. But I do focus a lot on my weight / food / drink. Frankly, I need to raise the focus on my exercise.
I do plan and track my food on MFP most days. My shrink keeps urging me to take some days off from tracking. Clearly, he has issues.
It doesn't surprise me that after reaching our weight goals we focus on maintenance. No one who's had WLS was a successful maintainer pre-op. Duh. And it wasn't just once we failed to maintain. Our entire histories have been repeated cycles of weight loss successes after hard work followed by abject failures to maintain.
But now I have confidence coupled with commitment to care for my body and myself. I spent most of my life worrying about and caring first for everyone and everything in my life but my body and me. Now, I have finally understood that I deserve my respect, love and self-care as much as everyone else in my life. Magically, those I care most for are also benefitting from my own self-care.

I am ALWAYS concerned about regain, but this is something I'm really trying to get into my head. Someone told me this years ago and it is still in my head.
If you forget to brush your teeth, one day, are you going to stop brushing your teeth forever? Of course not...you'll brush them again the next day. We need to look at our eating in the same way.
Good luck, and never stop thinking about it, but don't worry....

I am 17days post op - Lapland removal to VSF and spend all day worrying in between regular life... ????
    - I worry I'm not loosing fast enough...
    - I worry I will stretch my stomach if I nibble somethin
    - I worry I will gain all that I loose again
    - I worry I shouldn't get pregnant again in a couple of years because I'll gain weight
    - I worry that I'm feeling hungry but not sure so I just try and ignore...
    - I worry I'm not getting enough exercise
Yeah I worry... And then I say stop. Let it go and just be conscious ... So I'm trying... ☺️

Getting ready to go. Took a shower. Weighed myself. They will not do the surgery if you are not at or below goal weight I am three lbs under. Not sure why I was so worried i have been trying hard. Got the patch behind my ear. All packed got the copayment toothbrush deodorant and a bundle of nerves I'm so excited. Three hours and it's on. Heading out the door.

Surgery is tomorrow at 10:45am. I am packed. I am ready. Husband is taking me there tomorrow and taking the week off to help me. He is the only one I have told that I am having this surgery. I am so thankful for his support. I am nervous but I am mostly EXCITED!!! This time tomorrow I hope to be resting up from surgery and looking forward to new beginnings.

I just say, "Thank you." If someone asks how much I've lost, I tell them. If someone asks how... well, for me it depends on the setting... I'm pretty open with people at the Y where I swim, with my friends, with my family... but not at work. Only a couple people from work know, because there is a lot of gossip and nastiness in my field.
One thing I'm really trying to work on (per my therapist) is just saying "Thank you" and leaving it at that, without a qualifier like "...but I still have a lot more to lose."
My favorite comment I've gotten so far is from a friend whom I hadn't seen for a few months. He said, "Is it just me, or have you lost a f**k-ton of weight?" I replied that it was probably closer to half a f**k-ton, but that yes, I had lost quite a bit.

I enjoy it. In fact, I love them. It's substantive confirmation of how hard I'm working to get the best results out of my surgery.
My last successful weight loss attempt on my own before surgery was over 10 years ago, when I was able to get down to 130 pounds. I was even able to hold on to that weight for close to two years. I loved the compliments and attention. I love how I felt. It was an amazing time.
But then inevitably, the weight slowly started packing on again, plus more. The compliments suddenly went away, and there was just silence. A terrible awful silence. I had worked so hard to get to that place, but I just couldn't hold onto it. It really did me in, emotionally, physically. After that I just couldn't summon the strength to do it again, and so I went on to become my highest weight ever at 248.
Now, after weight loss surgery, I'm only 45 pounds away from that 130 I was before. The compliments I've been receiving already are so wonderful, because it's finally displaced that terrible, awful silence. And I can't wait to be reacquainted with the 130 pound woman I was before, because I've really missed her.
Those compliments are concrete proof of how far you've come. So it doesn't matter how far you still have to go. Enjoy where you are now, give yourself a little pat on the back, and bask in the knowledge that it's only going to get better!

Just smile and say "Thank you".
If they start to get intrusive with questions, simply tell them you are tired of talking about your weight but would be happy to discuss theirs. They will stop.

Are you taking your Vitamins and getting your Water and Protein in? Its very importamt that ypu do. It will help in your recovery.
Have you tried electrolytes to help with the lethargy? During the first week or 2 after surgery I found that to be a big help. I found powdered electrolytes at the pharmacy. You just add the powder to water and it doesn't taste bad.
It took about a week out for me to stop feeling tired and needing naps.

    Awesome !!!!!
    You done did it !!!!!
Well done. The sipping has become easier for me every day. Now I have to make sure I keep the glass filled with ice and topped off with Water or else I tend to gulp it down (old habits). It's become second nature to have the glass beside me.
    I hope you progress well.
You probably already know this, but stay away from the scale for a while. It seems there is a predictable weight gain during our surgeries and hospital stay (IV fluids doing their thing, inflammation Fluid gain, etc). Just stay strict on the diet and know that it'll all flush out in due time.
Great job. You've taken a big step towards becoming healthy. Doing so at a young age is outstanding. Your life will be fun and exiting and HEALTHY. Awesome !!!!

My surgery went perfect. They said there was no complications and that I am healing well. Yesterday was the first day after my surgery and it was very hard. I was in a lot of pain and had terrible heartburn which caused more pain and nausea. But they kept me in the hospital until they figured out the right medicines to give me. This morning I woke up like a whole new person! I am still sore where they cut my stomach but it's nothing I can't handle. I am just worried about getting all my fluids in. it seems like and impossible task to drink so much Water when my stomach can only handle a tiny sip at a time!

Here's a few variations I do with my hair. I roller set them to give them a bit of curl then play with scarves & in up. My hair is thinner in the front due to menopause and I was already taking Biotin before surgery. Around 6 mths my temples started to thin and I think the hair is slightly thinner in the front. So far I haven't caved in and cut. As long as I can style it and feel great, I don't think I'll be cutting my hair.

ETA: not sure why the top 2 keep coming out upside down. I keep trying to rotate them and it doesn't seem to help.

I'm thankful I got through the weekend without eating too poorly. How nice it is to focus on visiting and being active rather than being consumed by what to eat and when to eat like I used to be during these holidays!!! Yay

Even though I still struggle "seeing" it myself, my clothes don't lie, and when other people start noticing it makes me feel on top of the world.
Being referred to as "skinny" even though I'm far from it, I haven't heard that in 8+ years.

Sorry to spam you guys... Today is my 1 year out. Look at the difference! I don't even look like the same person. I was down 109.8 pounds this morning. I completed my first triathlon earlier this year. I can run miles. I just am in disbelief. Thanks for letting me share with you! And thanks for competing in my challenges. You guys keep me going some days, even when it's rough!

I signed up for a boxing class that meets 3x/week. There are only three of us in the morning class and class is cancelled if 2/3 don't show up. I don't want to be why someone can't work out! Having accountability from my group is a big motivator, as is the monthly fee. It also helps that my Coach is pretty tough on us if we have lame excuses as to why someone missed a class.

Great advice. Sometimes we want all the weight off so bad, that we don't acknowledge and appreciate the weight that has come off.
I am thankful to be down 74 pounds. And I am earning to change how I communicate that. Over the weekend my cousin asked how much I had lost? My response was I have lost about 70 pounds but I still have 100 more to lose!
I will stop discounting my sucess today. The next time someone asks my answer will be "I have lost over 70 pounds and I look and feel great!" Period. Because that is the truth.

I remember stressing about this early out, as I'm a Realtor and have a lot of lunches and dinners with clients.
Come to find out, nobody cared or even payed attention to how much (or how little in our case) I was eating.
We get so self absorbed in this whole WLS thing, we tend to forget the world doesn't really revolve around us.
    But it should, damn it!
