Remix got a reaction from "Henry" in How was the plane ride after Surgery in Mexico?
I found the plane ride home just fine. I had a 3 hr flight to San Francisco, with an hour long layover and then a 3.5 hour flight up to Canada. Before surgery I was super nervous about catching that plane in SF but I was able to walk almost normally with very little pain. I have a history of blood clots (DVTs) so was also super paranoid about that. I wore compression stockings and got.up and walked the aisles every hour. I was alone throughout this jourmey but thankfully no issues at all on the trip home.
You won't be able to drink a whole lot at a time still so I took powdered electrolytes to add to my Water on the plane. That helped a ton with keeping me hydrated and helping my energy levels.
Good luck! And say hi to sunny Mexico for me!! I'm hoping to go back in February, except for a vacation this time!!

I decided to keep it a secret, only telling my husband. Not even my mom or kids know. I told my coworkers that I was having a "women" surgery and no one asked questions. When I started losing weight prior to surgery I attributed it to a low carb diet and carried around Protein Shakes. I am 3 weeks post op now and noone has suspected anything. I only stayed off work for a week. It is no one's business what I do with my own body.

Thanks for the info Remix. I am flying to Florida a week after my surgery and I was wondering what that was going to be like. I will make sure to get some of the powdered electrolytes you mentioned and carry a pillow if I think I need it.

Tried on dresses the other day, and couldn't find the size I needed in one of them. Asked the fitting room attendant if they had any, and she came back saying, "I'm sorry, miss, we don't have any smaller than a 6, but we may be able to order you a 4." Never thought I'd hear that!!!!!

My boys 8 and 10 realised yesterday that mommy look different, it only took 20kg, I had a lower bmi before surgery so need to loose about 15kg more. My boys was so upset they cried, they don't understand why I want to be different. Although it was lovely I have to admit that it made me realise that kids love us for us, they don't see a size!

THANKS!! I'M SO STOKED!! Hes pretty much anti-everything medical. Hes not a fan of doctors in general so this is a huge adjustment for him I think.
Thats great that he's talking about it with you! make sure he brings books ahahaha.
I feel the same I've been back and forth, especially at first, but I'm at the point now that I'm pretty much dead set and haven't re considered it.
I also wish there was more people here with stats similar to us. I'm about 5'7" and 200-205. Bmi of 31. 27 years old with 2 kids. I also wished it wasn't so judged because we are considered low bmi.
    When's your date?

My husband is starting to come around too. We talk about it like any other thing, and he even brings it up sometimes, asking what he's going to do in Mexico for three days, and where he can sleep and all that.
I booked our flights this past week! Only 7 weeks away!!
I'm still asking a million questions to my coordinator, and every once in a while I start questioning if this is the right thing to do. I just wish there were more people with similar stats to me (and most of us in this thread) that were willing to share their experience.

My SO made his first semi positive comment about my surgery ????
I said I thought it seemed hot, he said that it's cold. Then he said "you know what will be good about your surgery? You'll get cold easier again like before and I can turn the temperature up again."
Hey I'll take it. Maybe that means he's slowly getting more comfortable with the idea. ????❤ less than 3 months, I'm counting down!

I was sleeved in July by Dr. Hidalgo in Puerto vallarta, Mexico. My BMI was 30 so I don't think there's usually a BMI requirement. I got my lab work done in the day of surgery. No other tests or evaluations besides an online health history form and a telephone consultation.
I was able to book within 2 weeks of the surgery.
Some people worry about surgery in Mexico. It was a clean hospital and I felt very safe. The surgeon was top notch. When I was released from the hospital, I spent the day on the beach and walking the beautiful city!

Oh, and of course there was a pre-op diet. It was only for 4 days (because of my lower bmi) but I did it for a week to lessen my pre-surgery worries.

I have learned an unfortunate fact with it just being me and hubby in the house (and BOTH of us being WLS patients),,,,a lot of food goes to waste.
But I would much rather throw away moldy rice than eat the way I used to eat and waste my life, not just the food.
Like Lipstick said, just make half. And if you still are throwing a little away...meh. We all got fat from our parents forcing us to clean our plates because of starving children in China. Just make the proper adjustments as needed to keep you and your family satisfied

I have been toying with the idea of WLS for a few years now but it always seemed so drastic. I thought for sure I could do this on my own. Of course up until recently, it was more for cosmetic/quick fix reasons and not so much about my health. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia a year ago and for the last 2 months I have been in a hyper flare that made me go to the doctors. When I saw my weight, my highest ever, it sealed the deal. No wonder I am hurting so much. I like who I am inside. Now it's time to make that match to my outside. I am ready...scared, but looking forward to my next journey.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's responses even as heartbreaking as some might be. Similar to others, I've had lots of little straws over time...
When I was ? 5 or 6 out shopping with my mother, her saying "Broad shoulders are good on football players, just not on little girls" I wasn't fat then, but I was/ still have a large frame.
A former supervisor of mine told me (thanks....) someone else we knew asked, so is she (referring to me) just gonna get bigger and bigger?
The last ? 10 years some of the most difficult. I was escorted from a swing ride at the fair because neither me or the guy working the ride could strap me into the seat.
I haven't been able to fasten a seat belt on a plane - ever.
And finally a doctor telling me last year, you are not going to live at this weight. You will never make it to use your retirement. You'll get cancer or have a stroke. ( she went on and I on about it). While she was a bitch to tell me that (didn't know me, had never met me before, for all she knew I could have flipped out with that news), she was right. After trying one more year at dieting, I had my initial appt last week and broke the new stormy husband this weekend.
