My father-in-law wasn't on board. He cried, said he didn't want me to die on table during surgery, just genuine fear.
Losing 140 lbs changed his mind. His sister has gotten surgery done and he's on her about doing things right cause he's seen it.
I think for most people it's the fear of major surgery? Or fear of something bad happening. Idk. But you gotta do you! I wouldn't be where i am today if I always listened to my family. And they wouldn't see the success it can be either!

I was sleeved on the 26th, starting weight 280, op day weight 222, goal weight 150, current weight 145. I'm a sous chef at a marina and I sweat all day long in an 80-90 degree kitchen, I am moving [all day long] in a two story building. I drink more than the minimum amount of Water needed (because I am sweating, I need to replace that). I put inventory up, (yes up a set of stairs, we call it "leg day"... we have 3 of them a week minimum) and this is just things off the top of my head as to what I do in a day's work. Oh and 12 hour days, 5-6 days a week sometimes 7 if someone calls out. I bring greek yogurt, Protein bars, I make sure to hit my Protein count etc.
I've cut my hair, gotten a new tattoo (already had a few), and have to make an effort to not shop for myself now that I'm in my dream size.
I did everything the way my doctors program laid out for me and I reached the goal they set for me. I'm extremely happy with the decision to have this surgery and I am never looking back!!!!

My best friend is completely supportive and another really close friend who is completely against wls has stated her support for me as well despite her own opinions about it...I have another really close friend who is obese and has always been as I have and she is not a fan of wls either and rather started her journey again with weight watchers as I have begun this journey towards wls. I knew she wasn't a fan of it but still told her about my final decision and a few things here and there that I have done along this journey towards getting the surgery and she surprisingly has been very receptive to the things I have shared with her and turns out she will be taking off and being there for me day of surgery assuming I get approved... people who are TRUE FRIENDS will cheer you on despite their own opinions not negate you or be rude because she simply doesn't agree with such an important life altering decision as pursuing this..hopefully you are blessed with a much more supportive friend than she is in the days to come and if she has to go along with the weight you intend on losing then so be it!! This is for you and NO ONE else! Best wishes dear!

I can totes relate. I told my bestie of 25 years about my surgery and I didn't get support either!
After I told him I had surgery, all he said to me was, "Huh... I can still eat in front of you, right?"
In all seriousness, stop talking to people about it if they aren't on board. You're just wasting your efforts.

Good thing your not doing it to please her. Do what you have to do, for what EVER reason you want to do it. Just because she's your friend doesn't mean you owe her any explanation for anything. That's your friend, you had to know that she's a light weight hater!!! My sister WHOM I LOVE so much, I knew she would be very very very negative about it in so many ways. That's just my sister I've known her my whole life. So guess what.....SHE WILL NOT KNOW UNITL ITS DONE. I haven't told her and will not tell her. My mom knows and respect my decision, because she knows my sister will ultimately try to make mountain out a mole hill. Do what you have to do, if she decide to come along for the journey..... COOL!!! If not, pray for her and enjoy the new you. God bless

I would probably choose to not speak to her anymore.about it .. Even though she is your best friend she could be more supportive even if she doesn't agree.. Look for support other places .. I love this forum and also I use Instagram a lot and love all the people I've met on there .. Good luck

That's the thing... I don't even know her rational. My husband wasn't on board at first but he came with to my consult and realized how much I wanted it and wanted me to be happy. I just don't get it. She was super successful with weight watchers and maybe she thinks there are other ways. Idk

That is just weird. I don't get why some people are not supportive. I have yet to meet someone who wasn't supportive.

Old info but here is where I was. I'm 5'7" and my surgery date was 8/29/16.

One word....therapy. Like you said, this is a mental struggle you will have for the rest of your life. Surgery did absolutely nothing to address the reasons behind why we became fat in the first place. Until you figure that out and learn new ways to deal with stress and emotions, you are fighting a very steep uphill battle. The right mental health professional can help even the battlefield.
My surgeon helped me lose weight, but my therapist is responsible for me being able to keep it off. Good luck.

I am one year out and got down to goal weight comfortably but due to work and the stress there and anxiety - I feel like I'm just not eating healthy. I know I'm making bad choices but I can't help it. The high pressure and stress... i relate to feeling like a failure.

You can wear them right after surgery. Mine helped with the incision pain. I prefer shaper leggings and tank tops with built in underwire bra. Easier to take off to pee. I got a spanks arm slimmer. It was $20.00 bucks and works great but it is sheer and I don't think it will last long.
I look a size smaller and lots more toned in shape ware.

@ day 6 of post op and i drink in sips and when i feel a little discomfort i stop at least 20 mins if i still feel a little hungry i sip a little more but usually im good for the next 3 to 4 hours till i feel hungry again

For the first few days, my doctor had me drinking one ounce every fifteen minutes I was awake. By day 5, I was able to get all my liquids and Protein in with no problem.

Everyone's body physiology is different. Some of us will lose slower. Your not alone. Its not how fast you lose weight it's the fact you are loosing weight.
Stop comparing with other people. Ignore the statistics...... It will mess with your mind
You will be healthy. The weight loss is going to continue for you. We know you will get what you want out of your surgery. You got this!

So...How long were you all obese before you had surgery?
Even when the scale isn't moving if you stay on your food plan, drink plenty of Water, make sure you walk every day and you will lose FAT.
And you'll be a lot happier if you stop jumping on the scale all the time.

I also had slow weight loss a few months after surgery. What worked for me was to focus on the things that I had control over - like exercising and hitting my daily Water and Protein targets. I considered it a success if I was meeting these targets, even of my weight loss was stalled.

I was a definately foodie before and am still a foodie now. My tastes have simply changed and for the better.
The first 4 to 6 months I was pretty limited in what I would tolerate but I am over two years post op now. Honestly I can eat whatever I want but i am super particular about what I eat.
I love date night and enjoy trying new things. The good news is, I always have a lot of leftovers and hubby and I share things as well.
Prior to surgery I would have a cocktail when going out, now I absolutely LOVE decent wine so I choose that as my drink with dinner which I ONLY do when i go out. The rest of the time, I follow the not drinking with my meal rule to a tee.
Nothing passes these lips that doesnt taste good or makes me feel good. I figure, I can only eat so much so it damn well better be worth it. I also do restrict carbs and honestly i feel bad when I eat them so I choose to avoid them as much as possible.
I also love to cook and cook differently than I once did. Instead of all the Pasta (I am Italian), I enjoy cooking delicious Proteins and veggie dishes.
I still love food, its just different now.

We need this in the South Houston area.

So- body girdles are huge for post-surgery so help the skin tighten up and you don't have so much extra skin. The have ones that come down to your knees and have a cap sleeve, leaving room for your bra. These are huge in the Hispanic communities. Anyone try them?

If I live through this winter, I might have to move south. I am so cold all the time, and it isn't even cold yet Not for real.
