hockeyfan7 got a reaction from MrsRoboto in Post-op nutrition
Yes it does. At first you are getting 400 to 500 calories until you start eating solid food. Soft food stage when you eat scrambled eggs is typically 500 to 600 and then the real food stage is supposed to be between 700 and 900 - at least that's what my NUT told me.
Both my surgeon and my NUT said not to worry about calories at all but to focus on getting the right number of grams of Protein a day and then eating veggies if I was still hungry. My NUT said 3-4 oz of Protein a meal and then add veggies as needed.

Permanent? Well duh! I don't think anyone who had a sleeve went into it not knowing they were having anywhere from 75% to 85% of their stomach removed. It's not like it can be glued back on.
You asked "You want to live with only 15-20% of your stomach and eat 4-6 ounces of food at a time? Forever?" Well yes, actually I do. That's what I signed up for. But I can eat more than 6 oz of food at a time. I can eat 6 oz of Protein and a serving of vegetables like a salad or some zucchini or green Beans.
I don't need to eat a whole large pizza and a bag of potato chips like I used to. I don't need to eat ice cream and Cookies and candy bars. I feel so much better eating steak and salad.
And I'm not in the least bit deprived. Yesterday for lunch I had a broiled lobster tail with a small salad.
I'm sorry you had a bad experience but that doesn't mean the rest of us feel that way. And it doesn't mean someone going into the surgery will feel the same way. Actually I'd rather have most of my stomach missing than be dead which is where I was headed. And a lot of other people have that same situation.
I only wish I had done this in my 20s. I missed a lot of my life being morbidly obese.

Someone like me who's extremely nervous and scared due to surgery but it's normal feelings really dislike that you posted this comment because we're all here for the same thing and that's support and tips. Common sense when considering this your considering the whole package which is healthy eating and working out and living a healthy life. Unlike you who jumped into it by running to Mexico should have thought more about everything!!

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from KeepCalm in Band to sleeve in one surgery. Who's had it done that way? How long had you had your band? What was your recovery like? Any complications? Regrets?
I just had mine done two weeks ago. Band was removed and the sleeve done in the same surgery. I was in the hospital 2 days which is what my surgeon does for all sleeve and bypass patients. I haven't had any problems and have been able to each anything I've wanted to this week without any vomiting or stomach upset. No complications so far and no regrets.
I have been more tired with this surgery than I did with the band surgery, but I'm also 3 years older. I had less pain and barely used any pain meds in the hospital and none once I got home.

Anesthesia freaks me out totally. Versed is my friend. With my lap band surgery I don't even remember going out of the holding area to the operating room. With this last surgery for my revision to sleeve I went out going down the hall.
I tell them I'm freaked out by the anesthesia and they give me a nice dose of Versed. Heck I don't even remember the recovery room. I woke up in my room for the 2 nights I had to stay in the hospital.

I had scrambled eggs on day 8 and went to solids on day 10. That's my surgeon's plan. Today I had broiled lobster tail for lunch. Yesterday I had grilled ribeye steak. I've had filet mignon several days this month too. I'd much rather have lobster than Pasta. I can eat 1/2 a hamburger with no bun - I put it on Bibb lettuce leaves instead.
I don't like sweets any longer. I've tried them and ick. They don't taste good any longer. So since I know they don't taste good to me I don't want to eat them. Ice cream was the worst - it was AWFUL.

I use Bibb lettuce leaves for the burger. I still use cheese, Tomato, onion and sometimes dill pickle. I either use half a patty or make a smaller patty for me if we are making them from just ground beef.
Bibb lettuce leaves also work well for BLTs.

I wish I had known ahead of time I was going to have a drain in my side. The surgery itself and the incisions caused no pain but that drain was a giant pain in the butt.
I wish I had known I was going to be totally exhausted for weeks. I didn't have that same reaction when I had my lap band surgery.

hockeyfan7 got a reaction from LaLaLucy in How many days were you in the hospital?
My surgeon makes all sleeve and bypass patients stay 2 nights. Lap band patients stay one night.
You get nothing by mouth day one. Day 2 you have your leak test in the morning and then get ice and Water all day. Day 3 you have to be able to keep a Protein shake down that morning in order to go home.

I'm not allowed to have iceberg lettuce. But I was eating salad around the third week. I have not had any trouble keeping it down. I use Bibb and romaine (I tear out the middle hard stem), red/green leaf lettuce and butter lettuce. I add very finely diced cucumber, shredded carrot, chopped Tomato and it doesn't bother me at all.

Breakfast - either scrambled egg with ham, Tomato, onion, bell pepper and cheese or a Quest Protein bar
lunch - 4 to 5 oz of some kind of Protein - chicken, pork, steak, ground beef, ham and cheese, roast beef and cheese and salad
dinner - same as lunch but different protein and different veggies. I love making zucchini fries or I'll have green Beans.
If I want a snack either a Quest Protein Bar or a cheese stick. I also like Quest protein chips with Laughing Cow cheese spread on them.

I was a band to sleeve revision on June 1st. With all the Protein I have a full set of fingernails. I haven't had long nails in at least 8 years back when I used to get acrylic ones.
Now that's a pleasant side effect no one told me about! Time for a mani/pedi.

I have a 7 year old boy who eats like a teenager. The first few weeks the thought of eating what I was cooking for him and my husband made me cringe. It did not sound good or smell good. Once I was on solid food I make a Protein and veggies and then I can make a carb of some kind for them.
Last night I grilled chicken, steamed green Beans and made them a packaged Pasta dish. I ate the chicken and veggies and the Pasta didn't even appeal to me.
I think you will find your taste buds change. Sweets are icky to me now as are chips. I still struggle with wanting bread but I am able to avoid it because I want the weight loss more.

I'm betting on not enough calories. How major are your workouts? If you are eating 900 calories a day and then working out really hard for an hour, you could be burning anywhere from 1/3 to 1/2 of those calories. I don't think your body can sustain itself for long on 400 to 600 calories.
