Overall it went well....... during the pre-op diet, I lost 10 pounds and was very pleased. During the 2 days in the hospital, I gained 10 pounds. I just got home and weighed, back up to my staring weight. Grrrrrrrrr..
I know it's all Fluid and will come off, but I'm also having a hard time tinkling.

I went through the same thing before leaving the hospital. I could not urinate. My Dr gave me like 3 extra bags of Fluid to get things moving. It worked but I gained 10 pounds. I'm 12 days out and I've lost 24 pounds.

Well, Nell.... how did it go? I just got home from the hospital.... overall, it went well.
When I woke up after surgery my tummy felt like a 60 pound child was sitting on it. But once I got on Pain Meds, that cleared right up. I feel like my tummy just overdid it at the gym. I had trouble tinkling, they wouldn't release me until I could show I could tinkle....After many tries, I finally turned on the shower and voila, it came out and they let me go.
Now, all I want to do is sleep. And sleep.< /p>

Someone told me that the first six months is a window of great opportunity to lose most of your weight. Your restriction is at its best during this time period and its best to make the most of it by trying your hardest and sticking to the guidelines no matter what.
I didn't allow myself to eat sugar and hardly any carbs the first six months. After that, I got close enough to my goal weight to increase my calories and loosen up a little.

I'm glad my PCP told me if I got the lapband, I'd only lose 40 lbs. Made me even more determined to go with the surgery I felt more comfortable with and not the one that would help me lose the most amount of weight.
And I'm the first to admit that there's something so satisfying when she told me that I weigh less than she does. At this point, I'm probably a good 15 lbs. less than her. Hehehe...

Omg I thought I was gonna die too or kill someone when I did the two week Pre-op diet. I hated all days of it but you do get into the swing of it! Hang in there we have all done it and lived to talk about it! Plus the goal off surgery follows close behind and makes it a little more bearable!

@@RNsleever715 The surgery went smoothly. The surgery only took 30-40 minutes. I was up and walking shortly after I returned to my room. I had some gas pains yesterday. Today I still have discomfort from the gas but not as bad. I'm able to drink Water slowly without any issues. Had a bowl of beef broth Breakfast. I'll have no problems getting my minimum fluids in. In a nutshell, I'm doing better than I thought I would be. I'm sure I'll feel better with each passing day. The staff at the OCC is great. A very pleasant experience.

Your title also made me laugh. You've got this. Day 3 it really does get better, it did for me too. Keep your eyes on the prize and know that after surgery you won't even be able to eat a full meal, you will look back amazed! Good luck!

I felt so good on day 2 and most of day 3, I was making plans to go back to work the following Monday (would have been 1 week post op.) I hadn't taken any pain meds other than Tylenol, I was walking, getting in all my Water and Protein, had no nausea. I couldn't believe how easy it was. Then it hit me. I felt pretty bad that night. Took some of the Vicodin and was a little less active the next day and that seemed to turn things around. I ended up taking another week off work, but I probably could have gone back mid-week. I decided that a little extra time to get in my walks and work on advancing my diet were a good thing. Now I'm 2 months out and feeling great.

I'll find out more tomorrow when Amazon's drone delivers it, but here is the most interesting thing I could find on the product on the web...It arrived last week, and it is flavorless. Mixes well with yogurt, half a scoop dissolves nicely in my coffee. Finally able to boost my Protein levels to where they need to be. My hair is not falling out like it was. So I'm sticking with this stuff.
I was poking around on the web about this and found this on one of the body building boards:

LARGEbagFrontWEB.jpgHey there guys. I am the Doctor/Genetic Bio-Scientist that invented GENEPRO and am the owner of Musclegen Research. Serving size is 1 Tablespoon = 30g of Protein.. Here is a little about the product and the difference between GENEPRO and any other protein on the market. We are working with bodybuilding.com to carry Genepro as well as out other products..

What makes Genepro so unique is that we are able to reduce the protein molecule to half the size of normal protein through a process called Electrophoresis. This is a reverse electrical polarity method of extracting pure protein. In essence we take protein molecules that, for reference, are the size of a baseball. We push these baseball sized protein molecules through a Polyacrylamide gel (the gel stays below 87 degrees F) and introduce electricity through the gel. This process removes hydrogen ions, allergens and any fillers or binders so we are able to then bind the protein with a strand of six amino acids called a Hexapeptide which stabilizes the molecular structure. This hexapeptide increases shelf life of the protein as well as balancing the bitter taste that is present with the protein after electrophoresis and actually gives the protein a slightly sweet undertone. The protein is pushed through a filtration system and into a centrifuge which results in a pure protein molecule that is now the size of a golf ball (for reference). You may not be able to fit 30 baseballs into a shoe box but you can fit 30 golf balls. Thus giving us the ability to get 30grams of protein in a 1TBS serving size. This process also changes the caloritic count as well to 3.2 calories per gram of protein. The process as well at the hexapeptide are patent pending and have never been used before in nutrition (it's a genetic process that is used primarily in forensic science). The other interesting fact is that most protein supplements digest in the lower GI and whey is absorbed at only 31% so if you're "taking" 30g of whey, your body is only taking in 9g. Genepro is digested in the upper GI which eliminates gluten, lactose and bowel sensitivity and absorbs at a rate of 94% which makes it 3 times more effective than any other protein on the planet (medical or open market). Flavorless and odorless and can be mixed instantly in any food or beverage (hot or cold) without changing the taste or consistency. Truly the most complex and advanced protein on the planet. Each 1pound container comes with 3 empty, re-useable travel pouches that make it super convenient to use anytime, anywhere and in anything.

No regrets whatsoever! Not even when I woke up from the surgery. Not when I first got up from the hospital bed to walk the halls. Not when I got home and had to sleep on my back. Not when the drain was pulled out. Not when I had to give myself injections to prevent blood clots. This is been the most wonderful journey I could ever imagine. I had a really easy recovery, and I truly believe being totally educated on what you will be facing and experiencing during this time is key. I knew what to expect, and I enjoyed every second of it. Attitude is truly everything!!

Hello - I am quite new to the surgery. Had it on Tuesday May 26, 2015 - the hardest part for me was the nausea due to the anesthesia. I got home and took a total of 2 doses of the pain meds. Once I figured out that the pain meds made me nauseous, I stopped taking them and have not looked back. Between the pre operative diet and as of 2 weeks out I am down 35 pounds. I am really struggling getting in my Protein, but have figured out some strategies that work for me and I do really well at getting my Water in. There is some fatigue as you recover for a few days, but I am back at work and am humming right along. The hospital where I had the surgery is too far to go for me to do support groups, so I found a group close to my work and went last night. They were fabulous. It is weird coming back to work and people noticing my weight loss - some have even asked me quite loudly about it; however I am very grateful to have the opportunity to take charge of my health.

Most have regrets very soon after surgery. You're dealing with some pain (honestly not too much), you miss food, your tummy feels funny, you're tired, it's a damn full time job the first few weeks just to get your fluids and protien in....I could go on.
Fast forward a couple months. You are starting to feel normal, you can ALMOST eat everything again, and you've lost weight! And more than likely you have been taken off your meds for diabetes and high blood pressure. Score!
Fast forward a year or 2. You have lost so much weight that people don't recognize you! You actually exercise, and you love it! ( Well, maybe) You've had to go out and buy a whole new wardrobe, and you look and feel better than you have in years! Except for some much needed restriction that helps you to not overeat, especially in situations where you're tempted, you feel completely normal. And you LOOK normal. You're finally not the fattest person in the room. You FINALLY feel in control.
    What's there to regret??

Texas_Chick reacted to Miss Mac in Did anyone eat below 400 or 300 calories for a year post op after gastric sleeve?
Welcome to the forum. I just passed my first year on December 23, 2014. I started out at 235 pounds with an original goal weight of 135. I would say I am a slow loser since I only lost 66 pounds, but that is 66 pounds of potatoes that I am not carrying around on my bones 24/7. At my one year visit, the doctor adjusted my goal to 155 and said that once I get to that point, plastics should take care of another 15 pounds. My insurance will pay for a panniculectomy after the second year is up, so basically I have a year to lose the other 14 pounds.
Since my six month visit, I have been instructed to eat 800-1200 calories, 80 grams of Protein and 64 ounces of Water. That is all manageable. My quality of began to improve about the time I passed the first thirty pounds. My arthritis pain is less, my mobility is improved, even my balance and posture are some better. My bed feels bigger, my shoes and rings are looser, and I have gone from a size 24 to 12-14.
Internally my body is pleased to have outstanding nutrition. The chronic inflammation has subsided and I am no longer prediabetic. I have dropped four meds since being sleeved. My mental outlook as improved since I no longer feel doomed to an early death like most of my obese family.
I have to admit that even though I had no surgical complications and the pain of recovery has been minimal, the first coupke of weeks were tough. But that was because of nausea not pain. Was I scared to have the surgery? You betcha, but I was more scared to die of an abdominal aortic aneurysm like mother did only a little older than I am now (she was 5'2" and 320 pounds) or of a heart attack like my brother did at the age of 47 (he was 6'2 and 420 pounds). Many of my 68 cousins (big big family) are dead already and we buried two more this past year.
So, every day that I wake up on this side of the dirt - that's a good day. The surgeon removed 80% of my stomach - not 85% as some do. Hunger has not really been a problem. My tongue wants to taste more than my stomach wants to process. I do not miss the horrendous volume of food that I used to eat, and I nearly gag now to see my family members load their plates with enough to feed a horse, salt it up, and then go in for seconds....plus drink a quart of soda. How I lived this long, I do not know. I have already had a stroke which is what prompted getting sleeved.
I think 300-400 calories is even less than my four year old granddaughter eats. I do eat in small quantities (less around 3/4 cup), but I eat three meals and two Snacks and sometimes a hot chocolate at bedtime. Eating that much Protein keeps hunger at bay and 800-1200 calories is a healthy amount to sustain health and exercise.

Texas_Chick reacted to bigfatgoodbye in Hello I'm new!
I'm new to this site. Going to get sleeved on 6/15/2015. My story in a nut shell... I went from bikini model babe to eating my way to doubling my weight over the past 20 years. I am an expert diet pro. I have gained/lossed 80%/40% of my body weight respectively. I have done this more than I can count. My husband of 10 years met me as I was hitting a low weight 152. We've been married 10 years and I have ballooned up to 227. He has never treated me any different. I fought the deadliest form of breast cancer and so far 5.5 years out and I'm still alive. Now I really want to live!! But not at the fat, unhealthy weight I'm at now. I don't want to do anything or go anywhere and I hate the mirrors. So after considering this for 8 years now The Lord is blessing me with this opportunity. I don't know how to fill out profile. I hope to get to know some great people who can share this journey with me!????
