I did the opposite. I ONLY told my girlfriend and nobody else. Couldn't have sex for about 3 weeks (though if I were a woman it probably would have been sooner... "thrusting" sure as hell couldn't have happened at one and a half weeks due to my abdominal pain around my sutures... TMI).
I think before he notices the lack of sex he'll notice that you can't eat food. I suggest telling him you're on your period and opening up the blow job factory for two weeks. He won't mind.

Don't make this about anybody but YOU! You are not doing this to see what THEY think. And as posted before, the comments WILL come. Glad you went from Band to By-Pass. I thought you meant you were re-doing a previous by-pass. Good luck!!

I just had a similar situation with someone who is supposed to be a best friend. It does hurt. It's easier said than done, but try just to focus on you. Once you are on the mend and confident enough I would let them know how you feel.

When anyone has any kind of surgery what is nice is if your family friends would not only ask how you are but offer if you need anything; trip to the store, drop off magazines, a friendly visit and even a mani/pedi if you are up to it. I don't think there is any excuse especially if they are your true friends. Shouldn't have anything to do with what kind of surgery; ingrown toenail removal to gastric bypass; surgery is surgery.

If you have made them aware of what you were having done, then they SHOULD have asked how you were doing.
A co-worker of mine was on medical leave shortly before me and when she returned our big boss had flowers delivered to her desk. When I returned, nothing. That's just how some people are and we can't let it get us down.

I would be willing to bet this has a great deal to do with it.

If this is a revision, when was your first surgery? Could it be they're afraid of offending you for questioning a second surgery? I, too, had a revision after 5 years. Not sure people knew how to take a second go at it. It was odd enough at the time (2003) for them to understand the first.

I think most people consider WLS to be a private matter. I don't figure people don't care, I suspect they are respecting your privacy.

People really don't know what to say or if you want them to say something. They will notice but might not say anything, especially right away. Don't worry about them, focus on yourself and how good you feel and look and how you are doing. There will reach a point when you are going to hear all kinds of compliments and trust me, that's even hard to hear and take. Just keep your eyes on the prize. And, we are all here for you if you need anything. (I should also say, you don't actually want them asking questions at this phase--I think we all assumed that the weight falls off over night and it doesn't so they might be thinking something you don't want to hear. But mostly it's just awkward for others to talk about it with you until they know your comfort level).

jennylew reacted to James Marusek in Question for RNY veterans: Vitamins
Right after surgery, I could no longer physically swallow large pills. So I used a pill splitter and a pill crusher to take my Vitamins. After 2 months that condition changed so I was able to swallow even the largest pills such as the Citrical and life became much easier.
Generally I have to space out the Calcium supplements (Citrical) otherwise it will not be absorbed properly. Also I need to space out the Iron from the Calcium by 2 hours for the same reason, absorption issues.
I am 26 months post-op RNY surgery and I currently take the following:
5 Citrical (Calcium Citrate) tablets daily - total 1575 mg
2 Flintstone Complete Multivitamin chewable daily
1 Iron pill (65 mg) daily
1 Vitamin B-12 sublingual (methylcobalamin) (1200 mcg) daily
    1 D3 (5000 IU) Vitamin softgel daily
    1 B1 (100 mg) vitamin tablet weekly
The vitamin regiment will vary a little between one individual and the next. I have blood work performed yearly and the doctors and nutritionist will fine tweet the regiment based on the results of the blood work.
Also there are many choices in the types of Vitamins. For example, I was taking my B12 vitamins with a once a month injection for the first year.

It is super hard to do the clears diet for two weeks before surgery! That alone will make sure I stay true to my sleeve and diet for LIFE! I only lost about 8 pounds those two weeks so no worries, the surgery is just around the corner and the goal is in sight! Stay true, you can do it! Hang in there!

jennylew reacted to Pinkpeonies1 in Official August thread! Where are you guys?
Hi everybody, August 4th is my date. Jennylew we are on the same boat, I am also having a revision from lapband although my band was taken out August '13 due to complications. I'm not sure what procedure you're having, I'm going with the RNY this time around. Also having weird dreams and don't know how to interpret them and I worry. I tell myself it's part of my anxiety and try not to dwell on it too long. I am waiting for test dates which coordinator is working on that now... hopefully in the next couple of weeks. I have stocked up on supplements, Soups, Protein, and Jello as well so I'm just playing the waiting game now.
I'm new to this forum and not sure how to add friends but keep in touch and let me know how your process goes. Good luck to you all.

    Hi all!
August 3rd here. Having a lot of anxiety and not sleeping throughout the night. Lots of strange "surgery" dreams also. LOL! I'm so weird. I Don't start my pre-op diet for a couple of weeks yet, but I have to admit my eating habits have been terrible, I guess it's my way of saying goodbye to a lot of the foods I know that I won't be able to eat again (or at least not for a long time.) I am revising from the Lap Band so this isn't my first rodeo. I just want this band out and want to get through the recovery period. Already stocked up on my pre-op diet supplies (SF Jello, broth, Protein powder, tea.) If I remember correctly, that is one of the hardest things I ever had to do was the pre-op diet. Look forward to meeting some new friends on here. Feel free to introduce yourself. We are all in this together!
