wwboy got a reaction from karen091866 in Surgery Aborted mid-course because of Tumor
Thanks. Not sure how long it will be before I hear something. But for now I'm in quite a bit of pain - and no sleeve :/ Not my ideal situation. Trying to stay positive and forward looking.
They did put me back on the schedule for surgery again in a couple weeks - in hopes that the report will be favorable and allow for us to continue. I see the surgeon again in one week from today.

    I'm on day 14.
And it's EXACTLY the same for me.
Unnerving but also instructive of what my 'hunger' is made of....so much WANT, not so much NEED.

    Great!
Dr. Rawlins is doing my surgery. He also was the one at the initial education seminar I attended.
Like you, I feel very very comfortable with him; excited about how this will help me feel better and get healthy.
I live in Walla Walla so I have to travel up for appointments. I'm 7 days into my pre-op right now (started a couple days early) and doing pretty well. It has been difficult in certain respects. Surprisingly easy in others.
One thing I've noticed is that the difference between head hunger and stomach hunger is really coming out for me in this... I've definitely had both; but the hardest moments are when I WANT something when I know I'm not physically hungry. I wrote about it a little a couple of posts ago in my blog...

Thanks for asking. I no longer feel conflicted about it at all. I'm ready to go! I kind of went through a deep questioning stage for a month or so over the summer. You can read about it in this thread: http://BariatricPal.com/index.php?/topic/351636-Approved---but-Should-I-Go-through-with-it%253F
Everyone's responses were very very helpful. My latest pre-op was super helpful as well: very confirming.

I'm penciled in the schedule for December 1 - haven't been approved officially yet but I doubt there will be an issue. I'm around a 39bmi with lots of other problems...
I would say I'm looking forward to it but it's not really true right now I know it's the right choice. But I'm super scared.
That will pass I bet but not for now :/

Your body just went through major trauma. You may have been scared leading up to the surgery.
Relax, take a deep breath and think about all the positive aspects your life will have post surgery.
Follow your surgeon's instructions and keep yourself well hydrated.

I begin in 2 days. Not looking forward to 6-8 weeks without real food. But I believe it'll be worth it in the end.

I met with the dietician and went over all his required steps. It looks hard :/ but certainly doable.
2 weeks of liquid is what I have to focus on right now.

I just wanna say thank you to everyone who replied. It was helpful both to me and my wife as we've been weighing options.
I appreciated the video as well. Has anyone here read his book? I'm curious.
Anyways, I'm feeling more clarity and firmness about having the surgery....December 1 is marching toward us. And I've been talking with the hospital and my clinic.
    Just wanted to say thanks!

wwboy got a reaction from SleevedstylistCO in If you haven't had surgery yet what are you most afraid of?
    Scheduled for December ...
I'm terrified of (in no particular order):
    1. Dying on the table. I know this might be unlikely but the thought that when they put me under that might be my last moment is terrifying.
    2. Having major complications such as issues with anesthesia, major leaks, an infection, abscesses, etc.
    3. Emerging out of surgery after having been in a coma for many weeks or months because of something bad that happened in surgery. How that might affect my career or my kids and my family. In related to this the fear of waking up without legs or something if I were to throw a clot and end up having them amputated. (this actually happened to someone I read about this past week went to surgery just fine woke up an amputee)
    4. I suppose having surgery or not losing weight it's a fear but it's a far more insignificant fear than the other ones.
    5. The pain. That it will be worse than people describe or I won't be able to tolerate it very well.
    6. That I will not have the positive effects that other people have surgery: i.e. decreased hunger, a quicker feeling fullness after eating, etc.
So I guess welcome to the club. And I guess welcome to the club for me too!

wwboy got a reaction from Jay05 in Keep WLS a secret from family and friends...
This is a super interesting conversation. Thanks for sharing! I am in a similar boat as many of you - hesitant to tell friends and coworkers. And for similar reasons: what if I regain the weight?, what if they judge me?, what if it's awkward?, what will happen in social settings?, etc.
Another layer that adds to it for me is that I'm a pastor of a church -- so there's kind of a "spiritual failure" aspect to my heaviness -- and also a piece of my recovery process that is in public because of my public career. I'd hate to lose a ton of weight and have my congregation think I did it without the tool of WLS if that was the truth. Not only because it'd kind of be a shade of falsehood, but also because there are others in the church struggling with weight -- and my example could give them permission to get this kind of aggressive help.
    It's sure scary though.
    So I haven't told anyone.
I am writing a blog but haven't shared it on my Facebook or anything yet.

I'm pre op still - but right at 39-40 BMI. 6'1" and 310 when I started. Down to 298 right now on changing eating habits over the past month and a half.
I've had several friends respond with that same: you don't need it, you're fine, you've always been big, that's drastic.
But like many of you, my joints hurt, my lab numbers are horrible, I'm on a CPAP, I take several meds, I feel crappy -- AND ALL THESE PEOPLE TELLING ME ITS UNREASONABLE ARE AT HEALTHY WEIGHTS!!!!
I want to lose 100lbs and for craps sake, I haven't been able to do it without this tool. It's good to not be alone
