I am on day 4 post op. I had a hernia repair and gastric sleeve surgery on July 2nd. The pre-op diet went easier than I had expected, the thought of no food really freaked me out beforehand. I was in the hospital one night and I am going to be honest, it was a tough two days. I had severe nauseau and could barely move the first day from the pain. They kept me napping on pain meds. I read enough of the forums to be prepared for the worst and what side effects could happen. Everyone said that it would more than likely pass in 3 days and it does. If you are struggling, just know that by day 3 you will be through the worst of it and hold on to those positive thoughts, it will get better. On day 2, I still couldn't keep Water down and the nausea meds did not help with keeping anything down, but by day 3 I am finally handling liquids and moving around more easily. I am still really sore, but the weight is already falling off and I know this is the best decision in the long run. I have had previous surgeries which created a lot of scar tissue making things a little worse so I know my case is different. I was a basket case before the surgery and even thought about rolling off the gurney right before surgery and walking out, but having seen family and friends do so well with this surgery I stayed the course. Know that you can do it and look forward to those positive feelings!

I'm pretty puny today too. But I woke up in the middle of the night coughing and wasn't able to go back to sleep.
I'm not allowed to have yogurt yet???? I love yogurt. I have until next Wednesday on Soups, juices, and Popsicles.

So, how is everyone doing on our 5th day post-op?
My energy is a bit low and still haven't been able to go for walks outside. I get tired, sweaty and shaky just standing too long or walking around my house and cleaning. I'm enjoying yogurts though I used to hate them and still struggling to keep sipping all day to get fluids in. I still have no clue when I've eaten enough because I have to stop before 2oz since I'm constantly full... but on the very bright side I'm down 14lbs as of this morning and under 300lbs!! Woohoo!

Hi yall - my surgery was at 9:30 and all went smoothly! My surgeon was really awesome and made it an out patient procedure I have been home since about 2:30. I've been sleeping a lot since then and taking the long way to get anything I need so I can get some extra walking in. (It's raining outside so I'm stuck doing laps in the house haha!) Right now my only issues are the trapped gas and tenderness in the incision where the stomach was pulled out. My goal right now is to just get some Water in - which is a very slow process!
Luckily my momma has been able to help me through it since she's just now starting normal food!
Happy to be on the losers bench and can't wait for everyone to join! Good luck to those who are having their surgeries soon!

I had my surgery on the 30th and was able to come home that day with this new 72 hour pain pill my surgeon put inside me, so now that it is starting to wear off in getting the real deal. It's still not as bad as I was expecting but I am a lot more puny today.
I slept through the night perfectly! Which was so nice because I didn't the night before. I've been able to keep down Water, Vitamin Water, and chicken broth. I'm still taking my nausea medicine- just as a precaution. And I'm still doing pain medicine every 4 hours during the day since I'm active.
With just a little incision pain/soreness - I've been able to walk a mile on the 30th and 2 miles yesterday which really really really helps get rid of the gas. (To add on to whoever was talking about the small farts- they get bigger and better to give you something to look forward to hahaha ????)

Yes! And I hear it is a good thing! Body is burning stored energy! As for the pain when breathing, YES to that too! My surgeon says it's common and that it's important to keep it up so your lungs stay clear!

I did laundry today. Stood for 30 minutes folding and started sweating profusely and got shaky I think it was because I haven't really consumed enough of anything to have energy to move. My body must have quickly used up the Vitamins and left me with nothing to function with. But oddly when I'm sitting still I am freezing. Constantly have to stay covered. So strange. Lol. But I do have the deep breath issue. Hurts most by my biggest incision and in my left rib cage. Does feel like muscle strain. I remember feeling the same after my two other surgeries years ago. Took a long while for the muscles to heal. Don't hesitate to ask your doctor if it gets unbearable.

I only got in 2 oz of strawberry low fat yogurt, 2 oz of G2, 2oz of broth with a quarter scoop of protein and 6oz of Water. Not even close to the recommended daily protein or Fluid intake. Don't know how I'm gonna do this. I don't wanna eat or drink at all. Never thought I'd hate the idea of food and drink so much. I don't even know how to tell if I'm full cuz I constantly feel full and I'm force feeding myself. Thought I was doing good this morning until I realized how little I consumed. Hope tomorrow is better.

Today is my 7 month "Surgiversary" and I still don't feel hungry in the old sense of the word like I used to. I feel like I want to eat something because it sounds yummy, or I get shaky and headachy when I have gone too long without eating so I know I am hungry. But without the hunger hormone Grehlin anymore, I don't have that gnawing hunger that used to drive me to eat (and caused me to become so overweight). Now, I find that I can plan my meals, make healthy choices, and eat sensibly. When I was at your stage, I got really tired and bored of just drinking liquids pretty quickly and wanted something solid, so when I could have soft foods, I was super excited! My first foods were an over easy egg, cottage cheese, and greek yogurt. And they were delish Good luck on your journey!

I had the band surgery, and I started feeling hungry like 6 days post op. Make sure you keep hydrated, sip on some water or fat free milk or crystal lite
Take some children's Tylenol and try to sleep. I had that last week like 3 days post op.

I'm only 2 weeks out and just started mushy foods. But today my husband and I met some friends at a lobster festival down the Jersey Shore. It was difficult to see everyone enjoying all that good food and not be able to eat. I just kept sipping my Water. I know it will all be worth it. I came hope and ate my refried Beans (for the first time). They were DELICIOUS,

I took the antacid they gave me about 15 minutes ago. I'm hoping it helps. My intestines are finally working normally as of this morning. Afraid maybe it has something to do with the fact that I woke up lying on my stomach. I suppose the pain meds they gave me really work because I have no clue how I ended up sleeping on my stomach and not in severe pain. LolI feel much better today. Still a little groggy and struggling to get in enough liquid since I hate the bubble sensation but I am totally enjoying this constant full feeling and having no real interest in food. So far I love my sleeve.

Is that really so different than, "Wow, you look great!" (where the "now" is implied)? Seems to me that Grandma intended it as a compliment, even if it's somewhat clumsy. If we've lost weight, we all know how we used to look, right? And we know, firsthand, society's biases against heavy people, right? So the natural reaction when people lose weight is to think they look "better" than they used to. Try remembering what you thought when a friend or family member lost a lot of weight. Didn't you think they looked "better"? I think that's probably what Grammy had in mind. Of course, I don't have a history with her, so I could be totally wrong. But keep in mind that if we're successful on our journeys, we're going to hear a lot of compliments. That's part of the fun of this and helps keep us motivated. I've found that it's much easier (and nicer) to just accept compliments graciously, and feel proud of my accomplishments. At first I would reply, "Yeah, but I've still got such a long way to go." After a while, it became, "Yeah, but I'm getting so many wrinkles that I look 10 years older." And finally, I realized that the best answer is, "Thanks! I've been working hard at it." And everyone feels good about the exchange. Just a thought....
