I Have A Surgery Date!!!
I have a surgery date of May 8th @ 9:30am. I have to be at the hospital @ 7:30am. My husband and son are going to be there with me. My son is insisting on being there, so I have to call him off school that day. He is worried about his mama  I keep assuring him I'll be fine, but he still wants to be there. I will be staying that night in the hospital because I requested it through my doctor. I live an hour and a half away from the hospital. I want a nurse and a doc to be just down the hall in case of anything happening because of my sleep apnea and asthma. That and I don't do really well with the anesthesia. I explained to doc and nurse that it's not that I don't trust them or think that they will do a bad job, I just want to know I'm gonna be safe; those first 24 hrs it's gonna be long. I'm nervous about having to do the pre-op diet. I didn't realize til I made my new tickers how close my surgery REALLY IS!!! HOLY SHIT!!! Well I'll keep you posted on how I'm doing on the pre-op diet.

Insurance approved me for surgery!!!
There was a little mix up when the lady called to schedule my surgery. When I had my consult I had told the doc that I don't do to well with surgeries, it takes me a long time to recover and the anesthesia really makes it hard to stay awake after they wake me up and I'm also an hour and half away from doc's office. So I asked him if I could please have it at the hospital and stay in the hospital overnight because I would just feel safer, not that I'm saying something will go wrong, but I don't want to take that chance. He said he understood and it wouldn't be a problem. So when she called me for the surgery date, I explained it to her and that I was also going on a little vacation Memorial day weekend, she said not a problem that she would get me a surgery date asap or after my vacation for Memorial day weekend. She said I dont want to schedule it right before ur vacation or have u have to be on the pre-op diet on ur vacation because she wouldnt want to be doing that either. So she said she'll see if she can get it first week in May and if not then schedule it for 10 days after my vacation for the pre-op diet...she was really nice and understood. So I know I've been approved for surgery:thumbup::regular_smile:...just waiting on a date. So as soon as I know the date I WILL DEFINITELY LET EVERYONE know!!!

Quit Smoking and gaining!!!
Yeah I'm still trying to quit, my bariatric doc gave me a script for Chantix and I finally dropped it off at walmart pharmacy and asked them how much it would be if my insurance didnt cover it and I was shocked to learn it was $140.00. I said "EXCUSE ME, IT'S HOW MUCH!!??" So that was Friday and now I'm still waiting to hear if my insurance covers it or not.:frown: If it doesnt then I'll have to do the cold turkey or the patches. It's a helluva lot cheaper to do it that way then losing 140.00 I might need to help pay for my 20% of my surgery. I figure if I can beat my crazy addiction to cigs I can do the lapband with no problem.:thumbup: Hell it might even help wake up my slow metabolism and make me not as stressed. Well good luck to all of us smokers that want to quit. May we find the strength some how SOME WAY!!

How is your body reshaping?
I'm gonna be 33 on the 30th of this month..when is yours?

The Train Is Rolling.....
Well lets see where to begin..I guess I will start with the psych evaluation...it has to be done in two sessions because the guy HEN PECKS the damn keys:mad: so it is taking twice as long to type the answers I give him up. I just want to say to him "give me the damn keyboard and tell me what to type" I type 50 + words per minute. But thankfully the soonest they can get me in is Feb 1st I went to PCP doc and explained to him that I would like to have the Lap Band done and we talked about the pros and cons and what my symptoms are that validate me NEEDING the surgery. So I told him about the back pain, the tired all the time, etc. So he said since my insurance company doesnt require a 6 month weight loss he said I would like for you to try a prescript diet pill until if and when you get ur surgery. So he is putting me on Fastin. He also gave me Glutzera since I stopped taking the regular Metformin because of the HORRIBLE side effects and OMGS that pill is FAT, I about choked trying to swallow it last night at dinner. He said second thing is I would like you to have fasting blood work done and third a sleep test. Well things are falling into place quickly for me...the soonest they could get me in for the blood work was THIS MORNING!!! Awesome.:rolleyes2:...Next the sleep test..the soonest they could get me in for that was FEB 5TH totally awesome!!! :biggrin:So things are working so fast that it proves to me that I made the right decision to get the band done. That this is the right path I should be taking since I gave up on the baby thing after 11 yrs of trying. Any who.... So I am writing a letter to put in with my packet I send to the bariatric doc to let him know the names of my doc's and that he'll be receiving stuff about my blood work, sleep test and psych eval shortly. Here is my concern though..I looked up about this Fastin pills and I'm really nervous.....Has anyone been prescribed this and how well did it work for them?? I am nervous about the addiction and side effects part of this pill..not so sure if I should take it......I mean it said you can get addicted to it...like we dont have enough problems with being tired all the time, addicted to eating and addicted to nicotine (quitting that by the way) now my PCP wants to put me on a addictive diet pill that can make me irritable and sleepy and addicted....come on where was his brain on that one....??? LOL

Feeling a little beaten-down
What branch of BC/BS do you have or is it all of them?
-
How is your body reshaping?
Has anyone done lots of situps etc to keep the stomach tight or tried a firming body lotion. I read one post somewhere else that their friend did 100 sit ups a day and has a firmer stomach because of it..I have been wondering about that before I get the surgery done..so I'm really glad I found this post.

Getting all ducks lined up.....
Oh shoot I guess my reproductive endo did diagnosis me with the Insulin resistance. Damn now I gotta call that doc also and get them to send me a documentation also to say that I would benefit greatly by getting this surgery and for a doc to say that I have insulin resistance. I've seen so many docs in my life it's hard to keep track of which one said what...LOL I have Anthem bc/bs of VA
-
Now I'm getting nervous ...
I am seeing all kinds of posts about damn port infections and having to be in the hospital and having to have port taken out etc....I'M REALLY STARTING TO FREAK OUT HERE NOW!!! I was all set in my mind to have this surgery done, but seeing all these problems with the port and infections etc...it's giving me second thoughts BIG TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes2::tt1:
-
Getting ducks lined up......
nope....gotta wait til I have everything I need to send the packet in..so they will call me for a consult...I hope they do it fast...do you think since I will have the psych eval and everything else in with the packet that they will send it in for insurance before the consult...or do they need to do the consult before sending to insurance?
-
Getting ducks lined up......
Well 40 BMI which is no problem...my bmi is 41.6 and I have PCOS with Insulin resistance....but other than what Dr. Steward requires my insurance just says 40 bmi or over. I have Anthem BC/BS of VA but I live here in KS....hubby gets insurance through working on post through a contractor as a mechanic and that is who they go through for insurance.

Getting ducks lined up......
Well I have my psych eval on Thursday the 24th that the bariatric surgeon requires. Now my insurance company doesnt require this stuff..but I just was able to make an appt to get in to talk to my PCP about seeing if he would recommend the surgery as well. I also called my ob/gyn that diagnosis me with PCOS and Insulin resistance to write a letter also. So I'm covering all my basis before I send this in to the bariatric surgeon along with my packet they want me to fill out about my medical history etc to get a consult. I'm making sure there wont be any question of me getting this surgery. That way the insurance company has no problems seeing that I have issues and need this surgery. My PCP has seen me more times than I can count about having chronic bronchitis and just being sick all the time and my asthma getting worse. I am also quitting smoking...I'm down to 4 cigs a day. Mostly at work and on the drive home. Of course you realize with quitting smoking I'm gonna gain more weight...which will also help with the surgery not that I really need any with being over 250 now and only 5'5! So whatcha think..have I missed anything that might be required?? My insurance co and the surgeon dont require the 6 month weight loss program...just lots of diet history with the packet you send in. Is there anything else that I havent thought of yet? :rolleyes2:
