UPDATE time! been a long long time since I have been in here.
So it's safe to say it's about time!
TODAY I am Officially 1 year and 5 months out today.
WOW! the time sure is zipping by! seems so odd to see that typed out!
    let's hit those stats!
    Starting weight 251
    Surgery day weight 238.8
Weight today – 180 (I had gained for the holidays and I was at 188 on January 1st)
Total current loss – 71 lbs
    Goal weight - 135
    DREAM goal weight - 125
So what have I been doing? or not doing?
wellllllllll for starters after SCREAMING when I saw the scale on January 1st I reigned myself and Sylvia (my stomach) back in and got back to the basics and back on track!!
What does that mean for me?
    means Protein Protein protein FIRST
seems like the simplest of things and yet why do we stray?
because we just fucking do, that's why! hahaha so yeah I have been keeping my carbs under 100 grams a day (I actually try for under 50 but give myself the leeway)
Water Water and more water and yes I STILL struggle with this and I still use the hydrocoach app but I tend to ignore it. not good.
(however working out has certainly helped me get water in!)
    tracking in MyFitnessPal
I have been able to work out hard for the first time since my accident in June! I joined Orange Theory Fitness and I am loving it! It's not easy but I feel it's efficient, motivating and I love that I know exactly how many calories I have burned. I also joined their weight loss challenge so it's a good way for me to be accountable since I have to go a minimum of 3 times a week to stay in the contest. I have been averaging 4 times a week! woot woot!
I also went back to using my wean green jars for food (pictured below) they are six ounce jars and the perfect portion size. If it doesn't fit in there then it's too fucking much and I ain't eating it! LOL!
also stopped eating those horribly yet wonderfully addictive wasabi rice crackers! those crunchy spicy little fuckers were going to kill me and Sylvia if I didn't stop!
I also have released myself from the obligation of always cooking. I am tired of tossing food in the bin, it makes me feel incredibly guilty (having parents that were born in 196/1933 doesn't help that guilt) so instead I have been shopping a lot at the Italian market by my house, they do a lot of premade items that are GREAT including seared ahi tuna and they also make zoodles which I LOVE! So I find I am eating different stuff (which keeps me entertained) and I am not wasting food which is good.
    What else is going on?
this past month at the end turned surprisingly and unexpectedly stressful for me and my son when my ex-husband informed me he is moving out of FL to MA. I was pretty upset because that greatly impacts my son and if any of you know me at all you know that my son is my EVERYTHING he is my why and even typing that out put tears in my eyes. The good part of it...I didn't OVEREAT out of stress. That is really a fucking miracle!! Because no one pisses me off or spins me into a rage quite like my ex-husband and the stupid selfish shit that he does. I am happy to say it seems we have somewhat come to an agreement that will work and hopefully over the next two months it will all get finalized. I just want my son to be ok and I know it's not going to be easy on him.
    let's see...what else?
I realized that I still identify with the fat person. In the gym I see the big girl or guy and I think, that's me...but it's not.
    not anymore.
    It's so weird.
Sorta goes hand in hand with shopping and picking up items that are WAY too big yet I think they'd fit me.
Not sure how long it will take to sort that out in my head but I am working on it.
I actually want to run up to every overweight person I see and SCREAM YOU DON'T HAVE TO FEEL THAT WAY anymore!! YOU CAN CHANGE IT!!! but I know they have to be the person to have that epiphany. I know in my heart that this is the best thing that I have ever ever ever done for myself (other than having my son) and the only regret I have is that I could have done it sooner.
I do plan on making up for lost time, that is for sure.
So keep at it my fellow sleevers, we are on a mission and it's a good one! Don't give up. EVER because I sure as hell don't plan on giving up.

sleeve_getter reacted to shriner37 in 9/21/15 sleeved. Is a daily protein shake good or bad at this point?
Yep, it is right out of the KC Bariatric manual. Had to get it off the shelf to quote it! :-)
Keep in mind that the manual is designed to be a general guide for everyone. Each of us has specific requirements and react differently to diet, exercise and nutrient balance. I'd say if it is working for you then it isn't an issue. It sounds like you've already talked with Laura about it.
I like a hot Breakfast in the morning so I usually make a small Egg Beaters omelet with some shredded 2% cheese. It fills me up for the morning and is a good Protein source.
A few weeks ago I started adding a Quest bar each day for a mid-afternoon snack, but then read several posters on here saying that the Quest bar slowed or stopped their weight loss, so I took them out of my program this week. I'm trying hard to get 60-80 grams of Protein a day without supplements but it isn't easy.
    Good luck on your journey!

Yup, and yes it does work. You are going back to basics, and reminding yourself and your sleeve of what you should be eating.
I did it for a carb detox. Once I had the carbs out of my system, it was much easier to get back to Protein first and then healthy veggies and stopped the hunger/carb cravings that had creeped in. (I know now that I can't eat high carb sugary stuff without it making me crave more of the same - so I am not eating any of that type of food except for very rare occasions).
http://5daypouchtest.com/plan/theplan.html is the one I used.
@@Dub - a pouch is just another term for your sleeve.

I am a lot better today then yesterday!! Yesterday I had really bad nausea! It was horrendous! But today it is gone. I got up and walked about 5 times yesterday. I have been up and about today too and had sips of broth, tea, Protein Drink and Jello. So far so good! I should be out of here tomorrow!!!

Each time I am here I learn more and have come to know that I am not the only one. Which was sometimes my thinking.

Ok, so I've read this entire thread and lots of great advice and info! I'm hopeful for a September date, but more likely to be in October. I am self-pay in Michigan and my journey will really get its "kick-start" September 3 when I meet with my surgeon, go to my first NUT class, and go to the required "free info seminar" (SMH, I've already been to 3 at 2 diff docs offices and they're all the same!) I've been on the "lets make this happen" roller coaster for 4 years and I just hope it all comes together in September. Now, waiting with nothing to do to make this happen faster is so hard. I believe knowledge is power, and right now I'm waiting to hear what all I'll have to do IF I'm approved and it's killing me!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't get enough info on all of this. I am approved and should get an early September date yet this week. I am getting a RNY Bypass. I feel like I have watched every video, read every book and questioned every friend who has has this done. I'm so ready for the day to get here.

As a member of this thread and our new FB secret group we share great stuff here but we've become truly friends with each other on the FB page. Even with support from our families, nothing compares to the support of others going thru almost identical preparation and near the same timeline. It's great!

    I love yoga...
About a year ago or so, I was going regularly to a 2x wk morning class... it was a blend of styles because most of the class were either heavy or elderly. I had trouble with anything that had my head down because my hiatal hernia (not sure of spelling on that) was acting up. It is not fun to feel like your food is coming up every time you bend over -- LOL. Unfortunately, there were just not enough of us to keep the class going. There are a couple of night time classes but they are too crowded for me (not body issues, space issues, I don't like someone right up next to me, it feels claustrophobic).
I did buy a set of DVDs I like and can't wait to get back to, when I don't have the hernia problem (supposed to be fixed with my sleeve surgery). The set I have is "Yoga for Inflexible people" it has 3 DVDs and over 50 different routines. You can pick your level and choose how long you want to work out. I love the flexibility and variety. The one thing I can't get with the DVDs is have an instructor check to make sure I'm doing it right (asking hubby does NOT work and my son just falls over laughing -- poo on them).
I have a good friend who has gotten really healthy by adding yoga to her lifestyle and I want to be like her when I grow up -- LOL. Unfortunately she doesn't live anywhere near me...
    Good luck with trying yoga!!!

Seems like it is getting more real. My husband actually wanted to do another vacation next month and I had to laugh. Gonna be a very busy month after the 9th for me getting prepared. I don't think he realizes. Wish I had someone here to pair up with too. Tried reaching out today at Drs office, but no one acted interested. Think I will try at the meeting. Thanks so very very much to our September Sleeves! Don't know what I would do without you all!

I am praying for a Sept date too. I finished my 3 month monitored weight loss with my primary Dr in July. I have my first appt with my surgeon next week. I have to have a cardiac, pulmonary, and psych evaluation before they will schedule. I plan on doing everything I can to get those done ASAP. Once those are done he is about 1 month out for surgery. I cannot wait!!

@@sleeve_getter Yeah, it's needed. I was diagnosed with gallstones 2 years ago and put off getting the surgery because I was in college. It's a positive thing though, because statistics say that most people who have weight loss surgery end up having to have it removed soon after.

I had my nutrition and psych eval last week and am very excited to say that I was told I could pretty much chose my surgery date in september! I have decided to go with the middle of september, likely the 15th or 16th due to a vacation that I have at the end of august. My family just felt that being on a liquid diet while on vacation would not be a good time, and even though it is stalling me-- I agree. Until then, I have been continuing to watch what I eat, began replacing lunch with Protein Shakes (so far my favorite is EAS 100% whey Protein Powder in vanilla with unsweetened almond milk, it's 26g of Protein and 180 cals for the powder and milk), exercising and doing so much research that my eyes and brain hurt. I am getting my gallbladder removed with my sleeve procedure, so I am trying to prepare myself as much as possible before next month... I'm sure it's going to be rough.

My revision from band to sleeve is finally scheduled! September 9! It bums me out that it's not sooner. I started this journey in February of this year. I've jumped through all the insurance hoops and now I still have to wait due to surgeon being busy ????. I have to keep telling myself that September will be here before I know it and he must be good since he so busy. Lol

Hi everyone. I have been at my journey for over a year a half now. My insurance is Uniform Medical through Regence. My doctors say it is one of the best for coverage. I guess I trust them. My insurance company required 6 months of supervised weight loss management with my PCP. Everyone month I went to my PCP and we reviewed what I had done, what I planned for the next month and then he sent in the info to the insurance. I finally obtained my approval, had my psych eval, met with the dietary person, the exercise person etc. Set to go. My surgery is scheduled for Sept. 9 and I have to say I am excited, and nervous. My family is supportive although I continue to hear about the extra skin and how these types of surgeries make you look old. Yeah, Yeah almost there, but then......Yuck I don't want to look old with flabby skin. Trying to find balance.

Isn't it wonderful how many of us have come together because of this? I feel a real close network building here. My daughter is 25 and sees how we have come together and thinks it's great too! Only thing that would make us complete is meeting in one place at the same time. Wouldn't that be a goal for next year?
