AussieSam got a reaction from tshine01 in Exercise myth busted
I truly believe exercise if done well is much more powerful and effective then what people think. It firstly suppresses your appetite and secondly it keeps you on track with your eating and thirdly it speeds up your metabolism. So I believe it's much more then just making you healthy.

I think it’s really hard to assign exact percentages to the significance of diet and exercise for a lot of reasons.
One is that you absolutely need to restrict your food intake to lose weight, but you can lose weight without exercising at all (even though that’s not the healthiest approach). So, you could argue that exercise is 0% and diet is 100%.
But that’s not true…exercise must have some effect, right? It burns calories, and builds muscle so you burn more calories at rest.
Another consideration is that exercise plays different roles for different people. For some, it is a way of being disciplined. Even if these people don’t burn that many calories each day from exercise, sticking to their exercise routines helps them stay on track with their diets. And, for some, exercise time is time spent not eating!
For others, exercise really does burn a ton of calories. They are the gym rats or runners or others who have found they love exercise, and the calories they burn are enough to be a significant factor in weight loss.
And yes, it’s true that studies have found that exercise can increase appetite!
Another consideration or question is whether diet plus exercise must equal 100%. Aren’t there other factors, like sleep? Getting enough sleep can make you more focused and better able to eat right, while being sleep deprived increases hunger and can increase cravings and bad diet decisions, while making you less likely to want to exercise. You could even argue that you’re more efficient when you get enough sleep, so you have more time to plan meals and exercise.
Bottom line? Back to the basics…eat right and exercise…regardless of their relative contributions to your weight loss.

I'm with @@Babbs on this one.
My heart is a muscle which needs to be exercised, and that can't be done from behind a desk or in front of a TV. I choose to exercise my entire body so I can be healthier physically, and that combined with making smart food choices will help keep me healthier for years to come.

Complex are very important if you exercise a lot as you need them for fuel. Protein helps repair the muscles and stos the body from breaking down muscle. Stay away from sugary carbs and remember it's ok to be on a low carb diet but bad to be on a no carb diet.

@@AussieSam I think it depends on the person and body type, I've lost over 80 lbs and haven't exercised at all. My body just seems to be shrinking evenly. It also has to do with age and skin. I know people who exercise everyday and I've lost more and I also know people who have lost more than me.

I totally agree with you if one doesn't trick the body by varying calories and changing exercise then the body simply gets used to whatever your doing.

wow you work out... a lot. do you think you are putting your body through too much? Also, I just looked at your stats. way to go. you have lost a lot of weight. but I think you may be doing too much. two hours a day is a lot. and here is my advice (and I am going to get so much flack for this, I can already feel it): trust your body. try eating more for a couple of days, and see what happens. But look at what you are eating. is it 1800 of empty calories or is it full of health and life? if it doesn;t work, then lay off the calories and the exercise. I know for me that when ive been eating really good, and watching calories, and I have a day I don't watch what I eat and eat way too many calories, I often lose weight in the next few days. its like my body goes "oh she gave me enough - I can let go of some weight". then I strict my calories back down. find what works for you. I know that sometimes calorie restriction works for about a week, then stops. so then I up the exercise, or stop exercising, or eat too many calories then exercise. keep the body guessing. and give yourself a break!!! Prior to surgery I had a doctor and my Personal trainer telling me to eat 1200 calories and work out like mad; it worked for a few weeks, then stopped. I upped my calories to 1600 and boom, I started losing again. I kept my calories at 1600 for a long time. it was my sweet spot. I lost 75 lbs doing that. find what works for your body. not everyone is built the same!

For me the final straw was when my son took a photo of me on my phone only showing me from the neck down when I saw that not knowing who it was straightaway I said omg what a big person this person makes me look like a really thin person. After a few seconds reality hit me and I realised this person is me. I was shocked to the extreme didn't realise I looked like this. So that drove me to have surgery.

A lot of people believe exercise is only 20% of the success I disagree I think it's about 50. My argument is that when you exercise lots it suppresses your appetitte and keeps you burning calaries up to 18 hours afterwards and gives your body that great look. What do you think?

My marriage is just as it was before my wls I think one of my secrets was to do it slow and not expecting to lose 250 lbs overnight. I put in my mind that I will do it within 5 to 10 years and because of the slowness it doesn't have all the hormonal issues with very fast weight loss.

Getting back to the title of this thread, if your weight loss plan is mentally draining, maybe you should be seeing a therapist as well as a NUT. Your food plan may or may not need a change, but if it stressing you out, maybe you need to work on the emotional aspect & stress management.
