  1. Hi and Welcome!! Congrats on your upcoming surgery! 1- Coffee- depends on the nutritionist. Mine said no pre-op and said we could add back post-op if we needed to but to please limit to minimal amounts. She wanted us off caffeine s she says it makes you hungry and also dehydrates you. She doesn't allow us to count any caffeinated beverages in our Fluid total for the day. For me not a big deal as I am not a coffee drinker and I quit caffeine years ago. 2- Pain- I had some mild pain and discomfort after surgery, moreso from the hernia repair than the sleeve surgery. I took liquid painkillers for the first 3 days and then stopped. The pain was not bad at all for me. They don't want you "exercising" right away just up and moving. The more you move about the faster you can recover. Do take some time to rest and recover! 3- Work is going to deplete your energy. You are still healing from surgery for up to 2 months. You will be fine at work after 2 weeks but will come home tired. The exercising will be in small amounts as in walking initially. 4- The hospital allows all electronics. I was sleeved as an outpatient but all hositals have wi-fi etc. You will want to be up and walking every chance you get. It helps with the discomfort from gas pains if you have that. (I didn't) 5- For suggestions, search the pre-op threads here. You will need to prepare meals for yourself preferably as you will want to control your sodium intake as well as staying high protein/low carb. 6- For reading material re you referring to places to research the surgery? If so look into these...they also have recipes, info on puree's and more: http://milestogo.squarespace.com/ https://www.bariatriceating.com/ http://www.mygastricbypassstory.com/ http://twosleevers.com/ http://www.foodcoach.me/category/recipes/ http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/browse-results.asp?category=Low+Carb http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html http://healthylowcarbliving.com/recipe/ Good luck with your surgery and keep posting!
  2. I went back after 11 days. I have a mostly desk job so nothing to strenuous. It mostly depends on your job or the type work you do. You will be tired for a bit while recovering. Good luck!
  3. You may be in a rut with your meal choices. Trying different spices or some new recipes. Wake up your taste buds with variety, that works for me. Good luck!
  4. It is okay and normal to be nervous. Take a deep breath and let it out. I was not really nervous as much as excited. I wanted to be healthier and more active. You will get there also. Good luck with your surgery and with your journey. There are WAY MORE successes here than complications. Hang in there!
  5. Also wishing you luck and support. You have got this, follow your plan and reach out here to friends. You are pretty much in the clear for complications. Take it easy and allow yourself time to heal and rest. We are here for you!
  6. Hi Jenny and welcome. I have already been sleeved but am wishing you the best! Good luck with your surgery and new life!
  7. That question is better suited for your surgeon or nutritionist. You wouldn't want to do something to hurt your sleeve while it is still healing. Good luck!
  8. Everyone's journey with this surgery is different. All you can do is choose a great surgeon, then follow the plan. For me, I went to a Center of Excellence. I had no post-op issues. No gas, minimal pain, great recovery. Good luck to you! It is okay to be nervous, I think some forget it IS major surgery and should be looked at with respect!
  9. Those darn stalls are so frustrating. Hang in there, your body is resetting. Good luck!
  10. Nothing to do but wait it out. The loss will start again, for some the stall is short and for some longer. Hang in there. Drink your Water, eat the right amount of Protein and low carb. Exercise will build muscle and make it seem you are not losing when you actually ARE losing fat. Good luck!
  11. I am 51 and have never been the correct size. For me, I am looking at other women and taking notice of their style and what they wear. When I get to goal I want to be classic but not too dressy. I think by the time I get there I will have some idea of what I want. I am a pretty casual person and not too dressy and I wear scrubs for work. I would suggest the same, observe other women in your age group and get ideas on style from them. Look at the grocery store, the doctor's office, etc. You will see things you like and there will be your answer.
  12. It may take a few days for you to have a BM. Take stool softener or Miralax to help if you haven't gone in a week from surgery. you are not taking in any solid foods so don't expect to go yet. I would be careful around your incisions but I would think if you feel fine you are fine.
  13. I also like the chewable calcium citrate from Bariatric Advantage. They come in 500mg each so I only have to do 2 a day.
  14. Maybe as he sees your success he will want that for himself. It has to be tough for you to watch him eat things you can no longer enjoy and it has to be tough for him to watch you lose weight when you know he wants to as well. Maybe he can attend a support group meeting with you to learn more or speak to others? Yes you do have to be careful in how you approach him about his weight but there is nothing wrong in stating that you want him to be with you for a very long time and if his health isn't great that isn't going to happen. Of course it is all in how it is presented. Ultimately he has to be in place where he is ready for a life change.
  15. 1100 calories would be a bit much at 3-1/2 weeks out. I am 3 months out and my nutritionist wants me at 800 per day. I would guess the biggest question would be are you losing weight? All of our journeys are s different as the nutritionist's plans out there. What information were you given with how much you should be eating also?
  16. I set a goal of 160 for now. I would still be overweight but having been overweight all my life I cannot remember weighing 160 and it was probably as an early teen that I might have. For me that is a lofty goal and I take it 10 pounds at a time. I have lost 80 pounds and am now focusing on 90 as my next goal. It keeps me focused and I get to have successes along the way. I already know my weight for my height should be 135, so when I get to 160 I will adjust and go for the gusto!
  17. About a week...again you just had major surgery. Focus on recovery and your plan...the loss will come.
  18. Pinterest for sure... http://twosleevers.com/ http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/ http://recipes.sparkpeople.com/browse-results.asp?category=Low+Carb http://www.genaw.com/lowcarb/recipes.html http://healthylowcarbliving.com/recipe/ That should get you started lol...good luck!!
  19. Congrats!! I know you are beyond excited. See you on the losers bench!
  20. How far post-op are you? The gain could be from swelling, adjustments to your diet etc. Could also be from adjustments to your medications.
  21. For me, I had no significant pain and I was very fortunate to not have ANY gas pains. The most discomfort I felt was from the hernia repair. I also took my pain meds religiously around the clock for the first 3 days and then stopped. I was tired but relatively pain free as long as I was conscious of my movements and didn't stoop or go to fast. A few times I felt like I couldn't stand up tall so I didn't then that went away. Good luck!
  22. I took Bariatric Advantage for the first 3 months and am now switching over to over the counter pills to swallow. Haven't ad any issues swallowing pills from the start although I know some do. I attended a support group meeting where a bariatric advantage rep spoke and he said the chewable are better absorbed by sleeve patients but absorption happens in the intestine so idk if that was a sales tactic or not.
  23. For me personally, I chose sleeve over RNY because I did not want my my insides rerouted, I am already Vitamin deficient and that is a risk with RNY and all my research said that was what was right for me. I had diabetes, HBP and high cholesterol. I am now off all blood sugar meds and have been since day of surgery. I am on a much lower dose HBP med and a half dose for cholesterol. For each of us the surgery we have is a personal decision. My surgeon agreed I would be successful with the sleeve and so far I have been. Good luck in whatever procedure you choose!
  24. Way to go!! Happy to hear you are doing so well! Keep up the good work!
