I don't test the hypothesis of whether I can or can't have sweets, to see if I would dump or wouldn't. I use the mere *possibility* of it happening as a mental taboo not to touch the stuff. So far it's working too at nearly four months out. I haven't had any sugary sweets, no bread, nothing. Only healthy food choices. And the further out I get the easier it is to abstain, the less the cravings hold on me.
I'm not saying that method would work for everyone, but it definitely is working for me.

Wasabi will clear your nose fast. I can't eat sushmi without it , love the way it hits you right in the nose and you sniff and blow your nose then your nose is so clear.

Lots of Vitamins C. I haven't had a cold in ages but when i did I use to grate some fresh ginger, cut up a whole lemon some honey a few spindles of chilli and biol it then sip it as hot as i could. the next day the cold would almost be gone.
But i would be drinking this several times a day for one day.

great advice from OP on dealing with the cold
i have seen others also had a cold just before surgery
i have heard from the board - that if you don't have a fever, you should be good to go
but as you said, anesthesia has the final word
follow some of the great advice given, should be feeling better
can you take time off from work before surgery
your office probably has you scheduled for time off for off
    ask the question
get as much rest as you can
have kleenex handy and feel better
    good luck, feel better

Talk to your doctor before taking anything. You don't want anything that will change your blood work ups, thin you blood or interact badly with your anesthesia.
I had a horrible cold right before my surgery and I was told to take Tylenol cold and flu right up to midnight the night before. I didn't have a fever so surgery was on.
I was also on my period. That's usually the other common ailment.

Using saline spray (non-medicated, regular saline spray) every couple hours will help you to kick the cold much faster. No one likes squirting the salt Water up their nose, but it really will clear things out for you ASAP (I worked for Ear Nose and Throat docs for 8 years, so believe that I know what I'm talking about). That, and drink a TON of Water. Stay super hydrated. Eat spicy foods, super hot Soup, tea, etc. Take a hot shower or bath. Sweat that baby out. Good luck!
PS - I felt a cold coming on yesterday, started the saline regimen and am already on the mend.

Please try not to let this keep you down. Better to deal with the kidney now rather than it cause complications post op. Hubby may be frustrated at the entire situation, not you personally. 5 hours in an ER will try the best of us. Please encourage mom to get her possible cancer situation taken care of ASAP. As an 11 year survivor I can tell you that many cancers can be cured if they are caught early and dealt with. Time is a valuable tool in battling the big C. Don't let her waste hers.
Hang in there. Get this resolved and then move forward.

Geez... the drama never ends! Finally after 11 months into this process and a surgery date of Nov 16th i come down with a stinking, freaking cold!! I called my surgeons office to find out of there is anything over the counter i can take and was told me having a cold will be put into my file. My surgery can be cancelled and it's up to the discretion of the anesthesiologist. Smh. I have 5 days to get over this. Any tips? lol I'm looking for a miracle! ????????????

I only told very close family members and two friends. My two friends also had the same surgery and I used the same DR for my surgery. I only told people who would support and help me through this time, so don't tell people that can't support you. Just don't add more stress in your life at this time. I went into surgery and never told my parents even, they are not very supportive people. I couldn't handle the negative comments. I still never told them and I'm almost four months out. I believe they found out through my sister but never said a word to me about it. This is your your life and nobody is living in your body or walking in your shoes every day. It's funny how people with a normal BMI can't understand , how living a obese life affects us, so I don't even try to explain it to them. You make the best choice for you.

I don't think number of posts means a damn thing. I have been maintaining 150# loss for some years now - post revision - so I have some personal experience with both failed and successful WLS
Congrats on your approval and I hope you find much success .

I fibbed about having a cold when I had my gallbladder removed last year. << That's not as major a surgery, though. Take lots of Vitamin C and zinc and chicken broth (you can have broth, right?). Hope you feel better soon!

Sorry for not replying sooner! I just wanted to update y'all in case anyone else has a similar issue in the future. I had my pre-admissions appointment and my appointment for medical clearance the day before my surgery and both doctors said that it would be fine to do surgery even though I was sick. My primary care doctor said that I didn't have much congestion and that I sounded worse than I really was, so it would be fine. I had my surgery on the 10th of January and guess what? Despite all my worrying, it was fine! Surgery went great, I'm recovering very nicely, and I'm no longer sick. Thank goodness!

I'm keeping it to myself except for my immediate family. A best friend of mine had surgery and she was placed under a magnifying glass with every food she put in her mouth and why arent you thin yet? A whole lot of comments she really didn't need that put her under extreme pressure.
