I am 3 months out and went through the same moment of why did I do this to myself. Now I am down 40lbs in 3 months where before took me 1 year to lose the same amount of weight. So I really have no regrets I feel so much better have so much more energy and I know that this tool is saving me. I would say that everyone does this for a different reasons but if you do not have the motivation to continue the journey without surgery much like myself and many others on here this surgery will definitely work for you. For me it is because I finally see progress in an area that I have struggled with for so long and without the surgery I would just give up. So I urge you to explore your motivation to being healthy and having a better relationship with food. That means not thinking about food in terms of taste but nourishment, and thinking of exercise in terms of body definition instead of lbs lost on the scale. This surgery is not the answer but it is the tool to change your way of thinking. I hope you are blessed on your journey to a better you.

I will be three months post op on 1/18. I have NO regrets. I thought about canceling many times pre op because I didn't want to fail. I kept changing my habits and was finally confident a week before. My sister had the sleeve three years before me and did poorly (due to her own bad choices-no Vitamins, high sugar diet) and is back to her starting weight. I have been diligent with Vitamins, following my eating plan. I look better than ever. My skin and hair look great and even though I could be said to be losing slowly, I'm lighter than I've been in 8 years. I get compliments every day. It's a personal choice and surgery is a tool, not a magic wand. Good luck, whatever you decide.

I'm sorry it upset you but it is a standard question. I'm actually a therapist and I promise it is a routine question. Not that it's always the case but sometimes being over weight is a symptom of past abuse, especially sexual. For instance, if, as a child, you're sexually abused, a coping mechanism could possibly be turning to food for escape/comfort. Also, sometimes people subconsciously gain weight to make themselves "less desirable" to their abuser.
I hope all goes well for you and again, it's routine so nothing to do with being damaged . Good luck!!

The way I look at it is you have a couple choices. Have the surgery, embrace the changes and more likely than not live a happier, healthier life, changes and all. He will come around. I've seen it a million times.
Don't have the surgery, probably live with regret and resent your husband because he'll be happy nothing has changed, but you will still be unhappy, unhealthy and obese.
It takes a little time to find your new normal post op. But in the grand scheme of things, that's a blip on the radar. Soon you'll be living life again, but in a different way. You'll be thinner, healthier and happier when you go to dinner, party's, the movies, out with friends, etc. You'll feel empowered to make good lifestyle choices. Your husband will see how much happier you are and will wonder why he even questioned you having the surgery in the first place.
You're 50 years old. Time to do something for you and not worry about anyone else thinks.

I tried them and they are TERRIBLE! They took weeks to arrive and then they were all flattened like they'd been crushed. I'm not sure if they normally look like that or not...I tried them and they tasted awful and I've tried many Protein bars for comparison. The customer service was also terrible. I couldn't get anyone to answer the phone. I emailed them several times with no response. My advice, go on skinnytaste.com and get a recipe to make your own!

It is good that you're committing to staying on target for your diet, but the other thing to remember is that you're not expected to be 100% perfect 100% of the time.
We all got to the point of needing bariatric surgery because we had serious issues with food. The surgery isn't going to magically solve all of the problems - the reasons we crave crummy food, the compulsion to binge, the head hunger - the only thing it helps control is portion sizes. Losing weight and keeping it off is still going to be hard work.
Eating a few bad things every once in a while isn't going to ruin what you're working towards, but getting super negative and down on yourself isn't the answer. You're human, you'll make mistakes, and that doesn't mean you're a bad person.
So don't feel too harsh towards yourself, rather, use this feeling as a "I'm better than this, and I'm super psyched to get back on track!"
And stalls are gonna happen, so don't think it is always something you did - your body will lose at the pace it decides. And sometimes that will be S-L-O-W as a turtle. You just keep going, keep motivated and positive, and you'll get there!

@@Katsitsyahawe I think you were suffering from head hunger.
It was cold and you ate something comforting. It made you feel good. You wanted to keep feeling good.
During those times I find that I need to get up and move and do something constructive or just go to bed.

@@2goldengirl You're welcome! I knew it was always a possibility. Because I see it first hand. It's a constant battle. I didn't have any hungry for the first 3-4 months. I thought it would be that way forever. At that time I did think I was "lucky" but some of the vets where telling me to enjoy it while it lasts because it won't always be that way...annnnnd they were right! My hunger kicked back in with a vengeance. I can't eat a lot at once but there's nothing I can't eat. If I wanted to I could eat more than enough calories now to gain. It's all about making the right choices and following the Protein first, basics. It's easy to stray from that. I stopped tracking my food for well over 3 weeks. Just stopped. No reason. Stopped focusing on protein, started eating more "junk". I had to catch myself and stop it before I regretted it. It's never-ending but having a smaller stomach defiantly helps! I wouldn't have been able to do this without it. I tired many, many things! I would do 100x over if I had to. It's the best decision I've ever made.

Have you read the story of Zola? Google it. It took the internet by storm last week. Backpage.com is a hook up site. Prostitutes post there to advertise themselves. REPORT THIS TO THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY and take all precautions. Contact the site admin to get the page taken down. Change your phone number and email addresses. You need to find out who listed you on that site and press charges. This is more than an annoyance, this could be potentially dangerous.

I had surgery July 15th. Starting weight was 256, surgery weight 248 and current weight is 214. I've been at a stall for 3ish weeks and it's frustrating but I know my weight has to start dropping soon! What about you?

I've got to ask, @@Chuckster . You just recently joined this forum (a weight loss surgery support forum), you lost a whole lot of weight non surgically, and both posts you've made since joining have been about losing weight non-surgically. What's your agenda in being here?

Hi Brenda! I was sleeved on July 15th as well! I too have hit a stall this week. I'm 5'4" and highest weight was 256, 246 day of surgery and as of this morning, I am 234! I was averaging about a pound a day until this week. I guess it's the 3 week stall since tomorrow will make a full 3 weeks since surgery. I'm with you on those stomach sounds and feeling hungry! I'm doing well with fluids and Protein, though I'll admit, I'm relying on Protein shakes to finish off my Protein goal if I can't meet it with soft foods.
I'm excited for this journey! We will be posting before and after pics before we know it Congrats to you on your surgery and new journey!

backtofitme reacted to SleevePerry in How much did you guys lose in the first month?
When someone asks a specific question, you can either give a specific answer, answer "around" the question, or skip the question and move on to the next post. The first response to this very thread chose option #2, and from the short 6 months I've spent on this message board, choosing option #2 is an all too common occurrence. How much weight did you lose is a pretty basic, cut and dry question that only required a number in response. Personal philosophies on weight loss and weight tracking was unnecessary.

I love my Mom, but growing up, she was always on a fad diet.. cabbage Soup diet.. the B12 shots diet.. phen/fen.. As a toddler, my Grandmother made me sit at the table with an adult size plate and I rmemeber sitting there until it was very dark outside, forcing me to eat my plate until I was done, before I could get up.. then later in life, my stepfather fixing very cheap/unhealthy foods.. hamburger helper was one I remember. Canned veggies like corn and peas..
With my kids, there is always a fresh veggie with our meals, we don't fry foods, we eat a lot of chicken and fish, and I allow them to eat until they are done. As toddlers, I NEVER force them to eat. They'll eat when hungry. If they don't want it, then they don't have to eat.

Thank you so much everyone. My family said good job but only because it's the right thing to say. They didn't really care much. I think it's because they still view surgery as the easy way out and are all heavy. So also loosing this weight means I'm breaking a family norm and it's uncomfortable for them.

backtofitme reacted to Inner Surfer Girl in Is it CHEATING or is it a CHOICE?
To me "cheating" is an old diet term. Remember when Weight Watchers had legal and illegal foods? Diets don't work for me so I no longer diet.
Since I am post-op a few weeks, I have a plan. I have a variety of foods that are on my plan and the variety expands weekly. I prefer to focus on what I can have. It is a choice. I hope I will make healthy choices and the more I understand my choices the more likely I am to make the right ones for me.

    Not "faults". CHOICES.
As long as your choices aren't endangering your health, share away. We've all been there. But if you're drinking multiple alcoholic beverages weeks out from surgery, prepare to get your ass handed to you. By most of us AND your doctor.
And if you feel that drinking and eating things you shouldn't be just weeks out from surgery is justifiable, then I SMH at YOU.
