slvarltx got a reaction from gwoodgm in Drinking Post Op
I have a family member who fell apart so quickly after WLS it was mind boggling. Currently doing a 90 day rehab after 3, 28 day rehabs did not work. She was fired 9 months before being fully vested and eligible for retirement. She missed her daughter's prom, graduation, and basically the respect of the entire family. Her health was rapidly declining, vomiting blood, jaundice, etc....from a 38 year old woman.
She rarely, if ever, drank before the surgery. I don't post often here and not on the "how soon can I drink alcohol forums" as this rapid addiction isn't going to happen to everyone.
I quit drinking completely after watching her rapid descent.
Comes back to us in mid-July....praying that she can find peace and embrace sobriety.

slvarltx got a reaction from BigUtahMan in I Am Thankful For My Stall
I keep coming back to these boards because of posts like this. I have almost stopped a couple of times because of super sensitive people or people who feel its there duty to tell me when they feel I am being "mean" to someone (I am direct when I detect people trying to "bargain" their way to poor behavior or having a pity party!)
But this post alone has made it worthwhile for me. I have had 2 long stalls in the 29 weeks since I had my surgery. Both lasted for a month. The first one was the dreaded 3 week and was very frustrating. However, I could read here how this was normal and to quit worrying about it. I put the scale away and stopped weighing myself everyday, and instead just checked every week or so.
After the stall ended, the weight fell off very rapidly. My waist went from a 48 to a 36 in a matter of 5 months. Stalled again around Haloween and just weighed again this morning to find I was losing pounds again.
Am actually looking to lose about 5 more pounds and then start adding weight gain shakes into my diet to stop losing weight. My doctor doesn't want me to lose anymore. Weird place for me to be to say the least!

Blood work was always normal, but BP was drifting higher even with meds. BP dropped immediately post-op...had to stop meds as i was getting light headed...solid 110/60 with resting pulse of 55 for almost 2 years now...nice to take no medications at all

Never felt any restrictions on liquids...solids a complete different story...my idea of pigging out at 18 months is 3 slices of pizza...could eat a whole damn large by myself before surgery

slvarltx got a reaction from Hiraeth in Pouch Reset
@favoredlife....my understanding is that it is impossible to stretch the actual sleeve. What happens is that on extreme overeating, the area where pyloric valve meets the intestine, the intestine will actually balloon at this weak point....thus stretching the intestine not the stomach....this is how my surgeon explained it me....small comfort to your cousin of course as the result is the same...revision

I am with Babbs on this one. There is no stretching of the sleeve....it does relax a bit. The reset works for some folks in my opinion because it gets them focused on the fundamentals that makes the process work in the first place....protein, veggies and elimination of junk carbs.

slvarltx got a reaction from favoredlife in 4 days post opp/ extreme hunger
I was soooo hungry for the months after surgery, I didn't think they had done the surgery until cleared for solid food and felt the restriction. For me, it was "head hunger"....my brain wanted the stress relief from the act of eating. The head hunger lasted almost 12 months and then was just gone. It seems that the wiring in my brain took that long to give up. As soon as you are able....start walking. Not only does it help heal your body, it will relieve some of the mental game. Your body and your mind at at war. You will win, but there is a bit of discomfort to be endured along the way. Hang in there!

You haven't stretched your sleeve. It's the natural progression of things to be able to eat more the further out you get post surgery. You cannot stretch the sleeve.
It's also very normal for weight loss to slow and stall a lot the further out you get from surgery. For me what worked when it happened was to actually increase my calories and Protein along with my activity. That always seemed to jump start things again. I did that until I topped out at 1200 calories until I hit goal and now maintain on 1300.
I don't believe in 'pouch resets'. I think the best way to get back on track is just going back to basics like in the beginning--no sugar, white carbs, Protein first and lots of Water. If you feel you want to 'tighten up' your restriction a bit, liquids for a couple days should do the trick, temporarily at least. It won't ever be like the beginning. Work with what you've got. Good luck!

slvarltx got a reaction from OutsideMatchInside in I'm freaking starving.
It actually took me over a year to stop feeling "head hunger". Now I rarely feel that ravenous hunger as my mind has adjusted to the "new normal". I think the hard answer is that you are going to have to endure some discomfort to make it to your goal.
