  1. Hi Lauratro. My daughter and I both had sleeve gastrectomies a few years ago and we both went through similar stages to you - and it does get better I'm on holiday right now, a U.K. Size 10-12 (was a 24) which is exactly where I wanted to be and best of all I can eat and drink whatever I want. Last night I had carbonara, I had a little steak, a few chips, some salad then some banana split, wine, French bread and cheese later on! You can eat far easier if you keep on top of your fluids and you do eventually get the hang of how much and how slowly to eat. Though I still get it wrong sometimes even after 2 years. I find small amounts more often suits me. I'm not so good a big meals but if I do have a big meal I stop and start and take it slow. Honestly it took about a year to find my rhythm with this new way of eating but I love it. At your stage, ice lollies, sorbet and ice cream were my saviour and helps keep the fluid up in an enjoyable way. The pain should all pass soon so long as you have no infection so get that checked if it persists! I hope your feeling better soon! It's honestly the best thing I've done for my weight problem. I'm sure you'll think so too soon x

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

I've finally decided I'm going for the sleeve. I've heard lots or fors and againsts for both ops and I know I could have reflux issues but right now I'm not ready to go for the bypass. @ I know you're going to think I'm mad, but I really want to give this a try first.

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

I was speaking to a girl yesterday to had a band to Rny revision 6 weeks ago, her weights coming off aggressively now and she looks amazing and is finding the bypass great! No problems. Hope everything works out for you to get yours!

    Need buddies for support

My ops 14th May. I went to a support group in Edinburgh last night and finally decided on the sleeve. The folks there were a fantastic help, a mix of bypass and sleevers and all really down to earth which helped heaps. Im glad the choice is made - that was a nightmare! Starting the preop diet on sat. I'd really love to have a sleeve buddy or two to get through this with!

@@Gingerisgreat your story is inspirational. Thanks for sharing it! Part of my concerns about bypass is vitamin deficiency afterwards - do you take extra vitamins or do you get back to a point where you don't need them?

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

@ every gets stretchy when your pregnant, I wonder if that's what's impacted your sleeve? The main thing is you're healthy now and you need to give yourself time after your pregnancy. Besides losing 53 lbs is awesome!!!

@@Martene81 good luck for the 27th May. It's going to be tough but so exciting thinking about the changes ahead. Keep in touch, we'll be going through it around the same time x

    No Complications

@@Martene81 I totally get where you're coming from and understand how you feel. I've gone from being convinced about sleeve, then bypass, then sleeve again. I have about 100 lbs to loose so it would be terrible to get half way down and start to struggle, however I'm a bit scared about the op and I've also been thinking maybe I'm scared enough to try losing it naturally again. I know that won't work, so that brings me back to the sleeve........I'm going to a support group on Monday to speak to other pre ops and post ops too and I have a date to speak to the surgeon again before the op. It's such a hard choice! My family, the consultant nutritionalist and the specialist nurse (at first) all prefer the sleeve, but the surgeon thinks bypass. I need to decide by the 8th May - gonna have no nails left!!!

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

@ I can imagine that's not an easy decision. Is it a long process to go through to get the revision? And idea when you'll get it if you go ahead?
  11. I have my pre-op 8th May and my op on the 14th May. I'm still not 100% sure if I'm going for bypass or sleeve but I already have bad acid reflux so I'm leaning towards the bypass. I'm having the op in Edinburgh but would be great to meet other people anywhere in the world with ops around the same time to share the journey with. Currently in excited, nervous, undecided and starting to prepare for the 2 week pre-op diet.

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

@, sorry to hear it's not worked out as well as you'd have hoped. I already have the reflux etc. I've been on omeprazole for 3 years. I had an endoscopy last week and I have a small hiatal hernia and they mentioned that the big muscle at the bottom of my oesophagus is not closing fully - that's why the food easily comes back up. To go through the op and make the acid reflux worse would be a nightmare. Based on you're comment I'm even more convinced the bypass would be better. Thank you for sharing your story. Hope you get your revision soon and everything works out!

    Gastric Bypass VS Sleeve

My Op is booked for 14th May but I've still to decide which one. I initially wanted the sleeve but I have GERD / acid reflux so the surgeon recommends bypass. The sleeve doesn't worry me but the bypass does - the re plumbing, the vitamin deficiency, etc etc. Reading your posts above has been a big help. I'm leaning more toward bypass now. Any additional advice would be great!
