  1. Clearly, Im an infrequent visitor to the site! but, thank you for the information. Id love to hear how you are getting on since the revision of the revision! I am still waiting on my surgery date, but have finally decided on the bypass option. Your comments really helped. (also my surgeon, after telling me it was my choice, told me it would have to be bypass anyway, because of the scarring from the band!) I have my final appt on the 22nd October, and have been pencilled in for a mid November surgery date. Its been over a year since they removed the band, and +20kg later, Im really looking forward to moving on.
  2. This is really great stuff. I am about to have revision from banding (9years). I have been given the option by my surgeon, and am struggling to decide... but the more I read, the more I am leaning towards the bypass. I had issues with heartburn with the band, but they went away when i had my gallbladder removed. So i wasnt sure if it would come back with the sleeve or not. I have also read a number of people who have gone from band to sleeve say they don't have the restriction they were expecting. I think that would be devastating, if after all Ive been through in the last year, to finally decide, and things dont work. Id be interested to hear what, if any, deciding factors swayed anyone else to the bypass instead of the sleeve?
  3. Having had a lap band for 9 years, and it failing quite spectacularly! I have just been approved for revisional surgery. I have been given the option of Gastric Sleeve or Gastric Bypass.... and I am struggling to decide which will be best for me. I understand both have their pro's and con's... Im aware of all the post surgery risks, but Im more concerned / would like to hear from people who have had sleeve / bypass for a number of years... at least 5 years ideally..... I would really appreciate any feedback on the following points that are worrying me: Bypass - Very little / No revisional options... has anyone had anything go wrong after a number of years? Dumping... How often does this actually effect people? Ive heard you get very 'noisy' digestion.. and a lot of wind!! Is this the same for everyone who has had bypass? Sleeve - Given this is relatively 'new' Im very interested in long term satisfaction / issues, if any? Ive heard after a few years the stomach can stretch and revision is likely to maintain restriction? Ive heard people revising from lapband to sleeve, often feel no restriction? it this common? Ive also heard the chances of getting heartburn are high with a sleeve? Are there many people who never had heartburn before surgery, who were effected post surgery? I am naturally a bit nervous having to have surgery again, and would appreciate your feedback. Look forward to any help from anyone. Thanks!

    possible complications

This is all sounding very familiar! I had discomfort, really bad heartburn and vomiting for over a year. The pain got so severe one day I was rushed to hospital in an ambulance, and a few hours later had my gallbladder removed. I had a few gallstones. I felt great immediately afterwards, and the heartburn which plagued my every day, was gone! However.... 2 weeks later, the previous discomfort started to return. I assumed it was just healing. After the pain spread round to my back, and i was having problems eating, I had a barium swallow, and it was clear something was wrong with the band. The camera swallow (gastroscopy) confirmed, I had quite severe band erosion. The band was visible on the inside of my stomach. I had to have the band removed a few days later. Prior to this all happening, I never had any problems with the band. It was an excellent tool to weight loss. I miss it! I am considering options for revision. (Sleeve v's Bypass)
