I had VSG on Thursday at 10 am. I really can't complain about anything - I haven't taken any pain medicine since I left the hospital, no problems with gas. I am still on clear liquid diet but have not had a problem with Protein Shakes and almost enough liquid. I am exhausted though and feel like I should be walking for real instead of just padding around. Should I wait until my doctor's appointment on Friday or just make myself go? I am excited to find so many of us that are on exactly the same schedule!

@@jjflamingoVSG I am just starting purees, so I've been on Clear liquids this whole time. Applesauce is wonderful. I don't have my follow up visit till Thursday, so I can't be released to go back to work before then. He and I already discussed the amount of time I intend to take, and he was fine with it. Taking the extra time is time for me to get adjusted to this new lifestyle, know what to pack for a lunch, get out and buy a new tiny lunch bag, and get some clothes that fit. I can't believe how much I have lost already! But my staples have to come out, and I need some time for me. I've been on the treadmill daily, trying to remain active.

I just had my VSG on Thursday 4//23 at noon! So I am glad to find someone at the same exact stage as myself:) My surgery was at noon, and my night nurse was very young & busy. But that was the only bumps in the recovery at the hospital - by the time I left I was walking up and down the hall.
How are you doing at home? Have you started your pureed foods?
Yesterday, I started with yogurt and scrambled eggs. And going to work for a few hours, but expecting to be tired this afternoon. Smart that you are taking this time to take care of you and your body.
Sounds like you are doing great! Have a wonderful day!

Call the doctor. You may not be ready to swallow your pills just yet. However he may be able to recommend something to alleviate the discomfort you're presently feeling.

Is it normal to feel a sharp pain in your chest when drinking?
It's almost like the fluids I take in push out air and makes my chest really tight and hurt really bad.
    Is this normal?
If so how long did it take to stop hurting like that?

I had to do the same, but just in case, ask your pharmacist about other forms of the meds. Like liquids or chewables. You may have to have your doctor call in a new prescription for these, though.
What I did for my irbesarten was crush, then put in a spoonful of pudding or cottage cheese (when I was cleared to take cottage cheese), mix it just in the middle of the spoon (so the icky taste is just in the middle), then try and swallow that puppy whole! Occasionally I would get a nasty taste in, but it would work. Then my nurse told me to "chase" it with V8, while rubbing my tongue on the roof of my mouth. That worked, too. I guess the acid in the juice would help get rid of the after taste. Good luck to you!!

Unfortunately I have about 12 pills I need to take each morning. With pill crushing your medicines, what is the best way you have found to make the medicine go down ????? pudding, applesauce, juice? Any tips of disguising the taste of chalky aftertaste would be appreciated!

I hate to say it but I was one of those ladies writhing in pain next to you. Of all my surgeries this one was by far the most painful. The nurses thought it was because the drain tube sat right under my diaphragm so every time I had to breathe it would rub on the drain tube creating pain. unfortunately since I'm a terrible IV stick I ended up with a central line as well. I'm trying to do the best I can with getting in my fluids which I'm getting about half right now. I'm staying on top of my pain medication so that I can keep moving around. I am thankful I have not had any nausea but my stomach does talk to me all day long LOL I'm glad to hear you're doing well I can't wait to get back feeling semi-normal!!

@@FlabbyNat I am so sorry you are not feeling great. I have been lucky I guess. No nausea, getting my fluids in fine. I have taken the liquid hydrocodone for pain, it helps me sleep (I am not a back sleeper...but I have to be for now). I haven't slimed or dry heaved, or anything. My tummy does talk to me all the time, though. That's something I have heard we will be dealing with forever. I hate it that we all can't come out of this and instantly feel great. But I feel pretty great. I do have to nap throughout the day. I have been doing 20 minutes on the treadmill, and that wears me out a little. Hang in there....it won't be long before you will be ready to get up and go.

I am now at 4 day postop too. I am still very nauseous and sore! I'm struggling badly getting liquids down. Every sip just makes my tummy gurgle and dry heave. I'm on Tylenol3, Phenergan, Carafate, and my reg other meds.
Looking forward to some relief soon.
