Bubbletoes got a reaction from Sara51692 in APPS FOR TRACKING
Definitely "My Fitness Pal". It tracks everything: food diary, nutrition (carbs, Protein, sodium, Vitamins, etc), Water, exercise, weight and more. I have the free app on my iPhone and Kindle Fire and it provides everything I need to get healthy (except blood glucose readings-I have another app for that). They do have a premium app you pay for, but I have everything I need with the free version. I've used it for about 3 years on a 4s and now my iPhone 6 without any problems.

I would listen to my nutritionist before anyone else. They are the medical professional being paid to monitor your care. I'm pretty sure it was about 6 or 7 mths before I had a drink. I went to a wine tasting with friends. Honestly pizza and beer just doesn't sound like a good idea until you are closer to goal. pizza is too high in carbs & fat and too low in healthy Protein to even be worth it to me.

Bubbletoes got a reaction from ProudGrammy in What was your level of PAIN?
I had my sleeve and hiatal hernia repair on May 20, 2015. When they first saw what greeted them through the scope, they almost stopped and sent me home, but decided to go ahead with it. The first 3 hours were used to cut through adhesions, scar tissue and remove broken wires left from previous surgeries. The last hour was spent on my hernia repair and sleeve. I had 6 incisions instead of the promised 3, but my pain was only bad when I got up out of bed to walk and during the early morning hours with nausea and dry heaves. I did feel as if I were trampled by a herd of buffalo, but I think it was mostly gas pain which went away in a couple of days. I went home after one night in the hospital and took my pain meds for two more days. I was feeling pretty good by day four. The pain wasn't horrendous, but it was enough to want to stay drug-comfortable those first few days. Just like the pre-op liquid diet, the post-op liquids and beyond, you do get past it all and it doesn't last long in the scheme of things. It was worth it!

I'm 5 1/2 weeks out and have eaten out with my husband a few times. I know what I can eat and how much so I usually get Soup and share a non-fried appetizer. On Friday night we decided to have sushi, one of my favorite foods. I was just cleared to eat anything I could tolerate, so it was a little celebration. I had a small cup of egg drop soup (lots of protein!) and two small pieces of sushi. I was full, satisfied and happy. ????

Maverick, you are a bit wacko. But, you have lots of company. We have all given food immense power over our lives, our health, even our relationships. This surgery is about taking that power back.
I notice we are about the same size, my starting BMI over 50 as well. With just 10 weeks since my bypass, my diabetes is almost gone, off all blood pressure meds, crippling edema gone, much more flexible, blood work great, and almost 70# gone, my BMI down to 43, I can't imagine any favorite food on my addictions list that could even come close to equaling these fantastic results! I have gone through many sizes of jeans -- 54 waist, to 52, to 50, to 48 -- just got into a pair of 46's yesterday, and ordered 44's and 42's so I have them when I get further down the BMI chart.

I'm only three weeks out and on to puréed foods (including baked fish, chicken, thin sliced meats with gravy) but I am learning what stays down and what doesn't...had a small piece of tilapia at Red Lobster and that was okay but a couple bites of broiled shrimp brought the entire lunch up! Working on recognizing when food is enough to fill and a little more will make me sick. Tonight's baked chicken (1/2 thigh no skin) stayed down just fine. It sure is a challenge...but I know it's also still early!

Agreed with the 3 week stall...found out about that here and yes everyone has it to some extent.
The one thing I missed somehow was that in my paperwork the NUT said she wanted us getting 48 ounces of Fluid in the first week after surgery. My panic moment came when I couldn't even get 8 ounces the first day. I really thought something was wrong. Then she said work your way UP TO 48 ounces.
I had researched like crazy also but forgot about the temperature of what you drink. I couldn't drink cold for the first week then it was fine.
OMG yeah your underwear is so quick to sag. Your clothes will follow. Goodwill, Old Navy and Walmart will be your best friend until you get to goal weight.
Reward yourself with things NOT food for hitting benchmarks. Take your weight loss in bite size pieces and Celebrate not just when you get to goal.
Absolutely follow your plan, it works. It keeps you on the straight and narrow. It helps you keep yourself accountable and keeps you from sliding back into old habits.
    Good luck!!!

I had my 6 month post op visit the other day. I can't believe it has already been that long! It seems like just yesterday I was struggling to eat broth! I have come a long way and learned even more these 6 months. I still struggle with certain foods but I have never been more sure that this was the best decision of my life! I still have a ways to go and still sometimes have to force myself to go to the gym and occasionally force myself to not eat peanuts lol, but I will get there. I am down 91 pounds so far. I really hoped to hit 100 pounds by 6 months but I know that I need to be proud of what I have accomplished. I basically lost the equivalent of my niece and nephew put together. That's crazy! The doctor was very pleased and my blood work all looks great! I hope everyone has similar and even better success! To anyone starting out, it is very hard especially at first. It's overwhelming at times and an emotional journey. Sometimes I miss my old friends sugar and fat, but I quickly get over it and know I would do this again in a heartbeat!

I decided after my first follow-up doctors appointment that I wasn't going to tell anyone how many pounds I lost as I went along. I told my mom the number after that first visit because she was there, but I told her and my sisters, etc. that I was not going to announce a number.
I see my mom every day, one sister every few weeks, one sister a few times a year, and my brother a couple of times a year so it will be interesting to compare reactions when the are all here for July 4th.
I am particularly interested to see if the nieces and nephews even notice at all.

I am so please that at 5 weeks post surgery I've lost 39 lbs (since I've started this journey). I feel so much better, it's amazing! However not one person outside of my family has noticed that I've lost weight. I realize that I'm 5'11" and proportionally that's not as much than if I was 5'2", but still I'm disappointed. I know, I know that I didn't do this for the reaction I'd get, but it still bugs me. I have to laugh though because I really didn't want to share with others that I've had the surgery -- I got my wish didn't I?

Bubbletoes got a reaction from NewMrsSmith in Exercise?!
I go to the gym 4-5 times a week for 90 minutes of treadmill, nu-step, and recumbent bicycle exercise. I will start weight training next week (6 weeks out). I go to a cardiac rehab gym that has a bariatric program and they keep track of your BP, HR, etc while you exercise. I'll be 65 soon so I appreciate the extra care. It only costs $15 a month so it's a bargain! On the days I don't go, I use an old "walk away the pounds" CD. This has really helped me start moving again. Before surgery just the time it took to stand and take a shower caused excruciating back pain. Since losing 40 lbs (yay!) I have no back pain at all!

Makeup remover? You will have no energy to put on makeup! I packed a bag but only ended up using my toothbrush and hairbrush. Bring a change of clothes to leave in.
I stayed in my gowns the whole time, commando - underwear bands may rub up on your incisions, same with the underwire of a bra when sitting up.

I also packed a ton and used very little.
I wasn't allowed to use any over the counter meds I brought in the hospital (gas x, throat lozenges, anything!) but they brought me throat lozenges which were awesome.
    Used my cell phone/charger
    Used my Chapstick.
The hospital gave me toiletries even toothbrush/paste which is all I used.
My own pillow from home (the ones in the hospital had crunch plastic cases for cleanliness so they were noisey and uncomfortable
    That's about it

Here's a big news flash. Sorry if it seems harsh but I speak from experience. I'm 60. I was you at 20. The booze and overeating made me grow to 318. Now I have high blood pressure, atrial fibrillation, had fatty liver, sleep apnea, serious risk of stroke, double hip replacement, knee surgery, orthopedic ankle surgery....blah blah blah but here's the truth. No young person believes this but you'll be 60 in no time. I lost so much potential joy in my life living as an obese person for 40+ years. YOU DON'T WANT THAT. You can't drink like you want to, lose the weight you want to, and maintain a low weight. And honestly, it should be more about your health than weight loss anyway.
Right now and maybe forever, you want more alcohol than your body can handle. You either won't lose or you will gain back weight lost if you don't accept this. You may need to give it up entirely. Possibly you are addicted, although I certainly can't say. What I do know is that the alcohol will kill your metabolism and detract from getting proper nutrition. Absolutely. Decide what you want most. Good luck! I hope you have success. Sorry if I'm a buzz-kill but I actually do know what you are battling.

Thank you everyone for your opinions and support as well, I honestly did not make a decision when I posted this, I simply stated that Im not too fund of keeping the child. Ms jadyn, everyone has their own beliefs there were mixed reviews on the situation the only reason you stuck out so much was for your choice of words of this is sickening to you. I have not figured out what is the best course of action yet but I have spoken to my Obgyn and she has told me either route I take would be safe which was very reassuring. Thank you all for your opinions. I wrote this post because I honestly have no support and I thought turning to my "bariatric family" seeing how hard it is when some of us have little to no support when it came down to the decision of getting surgery, would be a little more understanding and a lot less judgmental. If I wanted to be bashed about being pregnant I would have told my entire family and let them crucify me themselves. As I stated before I'm still weighing my options because this is an extremely delicate situation so thank you for your input I do value your time

    Your judgement makes me sick.
Guess what? It's none of your damn business what she decides to do. It's ultimately her and the father's decision. Not mine. Not yours.
She needs support right now. Not self righteous judgement.

I brought a robe but it was useless. I had an IV in my arm until right before I went home and couldn't get my robe on over it. The gowns they supplied covered me more than adequately for my walks. I used my Chapstick, cellphone and charger and body wipes to stay feeling clean and fresh the most. Most important was the pillow I brought for my ride home!

i know how your feeling. My husband's side of the family are kurdish so the culture is very similar to yours. When i told them i was having the surgery, they found it hard to understand why i would want to put myself through such a drastic descision to have surgery, they would tell me to just try and loose weight by excercise and diet. Well if i could i would have. I think because they were uneducated about this type of surgery and dont know of anyone else who had gone to these lengths to loose weight that they thought it was odd and yes perhaps that i was lazy. So basically i spent a lot if time, especially with my husband educating them about it and how i felt that i needed the extra help to loose the weight and that there are thousands of people that actually have the surgery and are successful. I showed them pictures of the surgery and peoples before and after pics , which all helped them to be a bit more supportive of me in my descision. You see i felt that it was important to tell them i was having the surgery done as food is a big part of the family life, there is always a house full of people round when it comes to dinner, its part of the culture. So they are big eaters and if they dont know about my surgery they may think that i am ungrateful or that i dont enjoy the food and the effrot they have put in to making it. So i thought it would it would be better to tell everyone about the journey i will be going through so then whoever wants to gossip about me can do but they will be eating their words when i look fabulous nex year. I also felt nervous telling them too, but through doing so i now feel its out in the open and that has made me more happy and confident in my descsion to do this to improve my quality of life. The way i see it is, this is my journey, i feel this is the right descsion for ME to take and whoever wants to be supportive of me is welcome, whoever doesnt can just sit back and watch the transformation. Hope this helps and good luck with everything. X

Agree with @@Babbs and disagree with @@A. Stoot. 1200 is overdoing at this point. I am 5 weeks out and am barely hitting 600 calories. You should definitely not be doing cupcakes and pretzels. Those are simple carbs and not doing you any favors.
When I get to 6 weeks out I can start to re-introduce more foods but still will be focusing on Protein and veggies. Always Protein first. No empty calories. At that point I am told I should eat up to 3/4 cup of food as a meal and two small Snacks. snack doesn't mean junk food.< /p>
Get back to basics or you will stretch your sleeve out! Good luck!!
