So my favorite kitchen tool since being sleeved is my pair of kitchen shears. I was always a gulper, big bites, a few chews and swallow. It's been a hard habit to break.
Now, I use my handy dandy shears and cut my meat up into little bites and force myself to eat one at a time. Less chewing per bite needed and it takes me longer to eat. I feel my restriction faster, too, because I am forced to slow down.
    Try it?

Hi May Sleevers. I have not been on for awhile. Can't sleep tonight and decided to log in. I was sleeved May 12. Almost going on 2 months. I'm down 41 pounds. I'm so happy about that. I had to buy all new clothes. Very excited. I wish everyone luck

    Wait, whuuuut?!?!?
    <head scratching>
What in the world would you have to be jealous of? I am still "overweight" according to the BMI charts but I have found peace in my size. I wear a size 8 and some size 6s at "high end" stores. (Vanity sizes, yo!!) I still haven't reached my personal stretch goal weight and I still work at it daily at over 2 years out.
That said, I can do anything I want to do. I can run, lift weights, Zumba. I just got my 2nd degree black belt and Martial Arts Instructor certification. I can kick your ass and teach you how to defend yourself at the same time. I can shop any where, I can wear (almost) anything. I may not have achieved the number on the scale yet, but I feel SO MUCH BETTER than I ever have before.
Losing weight is so much more than a number on the scale and I think we forget that sometimes. It's all about how you FEEL. I am not perfect, but I feel great about my accomplishments so far and if I stay where I am now, I am SO MUCH BETTER OFF than I was 3 years ago.
    That's the bottom line.

I took time to read through this thread before posting. I'll say this as someone who still has a long way to go; when your starting weight is over 300lbs the rules are different. Sure some can make goal within a year, but for many of us that's not realistic.
I started at over 400 lbs. I've been losing steadily but except for the big drop within the first 2 weeks, I can't say I'm losing particularly fast. On average I lose about 10lbs a month. I have severe allergies and some other ongoing, non-weight related health issues. I am menopausal. When I started this I knew that any changes I made were going to be for LIFE! I also fully expect this to take at least 2 years. I remind myself of those 2 facts every day and work at it each and every day. I'm not worried about the past, or being super thin. I want to have a normal BMI and I want to be under 200lbs.
I don't compare myself or my progress to any one on this list or in my support group. If I feel tempted to, I log off of this board for a few days and focus solely on me.
I think it's a good idea to meet with a nutritionist. I think it's important to not only be told what you should or shouldn't eating, but why. Having an understanding of things like complex vs simple carbs, natural vs artificial sugars and sweeteners, healthy fats vs bad fats has made a big difference in how I plan my meals and choose what foods I can have. Those are things that might be helpful in your discussion with the nutritionist. It took more than 2 years to gain the weight, it's honestly not unreasonable that it takes 2 years to lose it.
I am on MFP as Milaxx. Feel free to send me a friend request. I share my diary with friends and try to be supportive. I am vegetarian. Between that and my food allergies, my eating is a bit different than most. I eat a lot of yogurt and eggs, but I also eat other things.
I wish you success in whatever you do.

I had the same problem about four weeks out. I tried everything with no "results", even a trip to the emergency room (which was pretty useless). I finally read the directions on the stool softener and laxative and found I was only taking one pill instead of the three I should have been taking. I had a day of untold misery, but finally all systems were clear... It had been a week and I learned to keep on top of things from that experience.
I might add that my weight stall was over after that. Good luck, I know what you're going through.

Ok, passed another hurdle this week. Went in for my physc eval and passed. She said she saw no reason to hold me back from the surgery, that she saw no reason for me not to go forward.
Have to admit I was a little scared about this visit. Guess we all probably are.
So now, I have a second NUT visit and that same day I will have my fourth and final visit with the PA. This is on Aug 6.
Then! They will submit to insurance and I will keep my fingers crossed that it goes through and I get approval.
Phew, I also, after the ins approval comes in, have all the other docs and tests to get through.
    Never easy is it?

I have been taking pictures along the way and they really help. I feel just as fat as I was +40 lbs ago, but when I look at my pictures, I can see the difference which is a great ego booster. I still have a long way to go (about 85 lbs) so I'll keep taking those pics until I'm at goal. Then I'll let other people take my picture which I never let happen now and in the past. ????

I was in my 3rd week when I started puréed food and tried scrambled eggs. I mixed my egg with ricotta cheese or with cottage cheese before cooking (which I still do). It keeps the eggs light and fluffy so they are easy to get down. Added bonus: extra protein!

@, I want to be clear, I hear you and I empathize with you. I am nearly two years out and I have not reached goal. I eat less calories than all the thin people I know. I work out like crazy (again harder than people that are thinner than me) and I get annoyed that Im still not where I want to be. Everytime I think obesity runs in my family (like hardcore most women are 400+ lbs) Im reminded of the meme that says nobody runs in your family, and I have to admit that is true as well. I too have been overweight since I was seven years old and I currently weigh less than or at least close to what I weighed in highschool. None of it fell off 25+ lbs at a time for me either, to be honest I lost the most weight, the most quickly when I did medifast BEFORE I had the surgery. Could you have done this without surgery? absolutely, I believe we all could have but we didnt and we are here now, whereever here may be. While I adore lipstick lady I remember feeling jealous of her results when I was sleeved, and even when I rejoined the boards after forever and saw her weight, it made me feel some kinda way about myself.
Thats not her burden, thats mines, because at the end of the day, I know that I may have for periods of time put in work, but there have also been too many times that I decided I wanted what I wanted and it was taking me too long to get where I was going to continue to deprive myself. Im not trying to lecture you, Im not perfect at all and I think I understand what youre going through I just would hate for you to get another surgery only to find that wasnt the problem. I have several family members that have gotten gastric bypass and they are obese and eligible for the surgery (based on bmi) again. Do you really want to risk another procedure if you cant honestly say you have given this one your best? Why dont you try to go back to Protein shakes and a small meal or just shakes for a month, drink nothing but Water and keep working out at least 3x/wk then see where you are at the end of the month? If you dont lose anything, decide your sleeve is defective and remove whatever you want, but if you do lose consider that life just sucks for you and you have to work harder than other people. If the latter turns out to be the case take solace in the fact that you are not alone.

Mine was just basically a conversation about why I wanted the surgery, what my goals are, and what steps have I taken to ensure my success. It was very easy and they just want to make sure you don't have a serious mental illness that can interfere with your understanding of the surgery and the change in lifestyle that is needed.
The only thing awkward for me about it is that I'm usually the one in the chair, not the couch!

We are all struggling, some more than others - if you wanted to vent, we heard you. Its a tool (WLS), work it (like Lipstick Lady , Babbs & others suggested) or continue on as you have and accept whatever you weigh now (and then). You have to be truly honest about what YOU are doing to work towards your goal. Maybe you should do smaller goals and not look at BIG numbers. just saying.

I am glad you want to move forward. Accept where you are and do that. It is what it is, and being pissed and feeling like you got a raw deal just won't change it. What that will do is make it HARDER than it already is. Remember, you are preaching to the choir here. We ALL got the same raw deal.
Anyone who had WLS knows how hard it is to lose weight. We all know what it's like to be in your shoes. We really do. I am still so shocked that I need to eat 800-900 calories a day to lose, yet others here post the exact same thing. It's our lot in life. Some of us lose super slow even doing that. It explains how we got so fat. It's damn hard work, and it's never ending.
I totally get that you want it to happen quickly. We all did. And it was not quick enough for most of us. I always thought it would be easier to stay on track as a thin person. Imagine my surprise to learn that it is not!
You are among friends here. We do hear you, and want you to hear us.

I never experienced the "rapid" weight loss that everyone talked about either. I dropped 20 pounds with my pre-op diet and then after that it was 8ish pounds a month. Not rapid. Not even as fast as I lost doing WWs. That said, I never gave up on myself either. I pushed through the "disappointment" and the stalls, and I continued to work my ass off to get to where I wanted to be.
You say you stayed on point for the first 6 months? I stayed on point until I got to where I wanted to be. I ate less than 600 calories for at least 8 months and then increased it to 800 until I hit goal. I kept my carbs at under 30 grams and while I never hit my Protein goal of 100, I was usually right in there about 60.
You've not answered the tracking question and I wonder if you really know how much you are consuming. Are you logging every snack? Every nibble, lick and chew? Every sip of liquid that might have calories? I learned from WWs that those little tastes add up quickly and grazing is definitely the enemy of the average sleever.
I feel for you, but at the same time (you might want to stop reading NOW), I think you are on the verge of giving up on yourself. I do NOT think you are giving your tool the fair opportunity to work it's magic and you've decided that you are one of the few that "it doesn't work for". It's my OPINION that you are fooling yourself and that's a shame. You are worth so much more than that and I can only hope, for YOUR benefit, you figure that out and come around,

I'm not quite sure what you want? Do you just want to vent about feeling like a failure (which you aren't) or take some of the great advice you've gotten here and put it into action instead of coming up with excuses and negativity? Because I can tell you right now, your mindset is not going to get you where you need to be.
People can give you spot on advice like you got here and in support groups til the cows come home, but if you're not willing to change your mindset (and your eating habits), all the complaining about how you're apparently the only person in the whole world who has to work harder than anybody else to lose weight after the sleeve isn't going to do you any good. You've got to put the advice into action and stop with the excuses and negative self talk. If you need therapy to do so, then please continue to go until you feel worthy enough to do what you need to do to be successful.
Attitude is everything with weight loss. I know it can get discouraging and cause people to lose motivation. But if you really want this, I mean REALLY want this, you'll find a way to fight through the discouragement and forge ahead and keep trying. You're well spoken and seem intelligent. I know you can do this.

I highlighted some things in your post that I think are important.
You feel like you're not being heard, but when people gave you suggestions you don't like that either. They're telling you what worked for them; most of the time, that's all someone knows - what worked for them. I'm unclear as to what you wanted from them.
Why do you feel you need to experience a rapid weight loss to be successful? You've lost over 80 pounds. OVER EIGHTY POUNDS! Congratulations! That is awesome! Does it matter if you lost 80 pounds in 5 months or 80 pounds in 15 months? Not really, you would still be exactly where you are today, at 1 1/2 yrs out.
What are you trying to say that you feel you're not being heard? That it is easy for some people and not for others? Yes, it is. That not the same exact thing works for everyone (upping calories, not upping calories)? Yep, true.
Do you feel like you got promised the "happily ever after" and no one delivered? As a creaky, cranky old lady, I can tell you that a whole heck of a lot of things never get delivered.
Think about this... in 1 1/2 years from now, what will your life be like? Are you going to be in the exact same place you are now, just a year and a half older? Or are you going to pull yourself up, get a grip, knock off eating the crap you're eating, and re-dedicate yourself to LIVING YOUR LIFE??

    Hooray for all you losers!
I'm almost 7 weeks out and although my pants are getting baggy, my blouses and shirts are ridiculously huge on me. I was going to shop for new blouses over the weekend when I remembered my "other" closet. That's where I would hang clothes that were too tight, plain old too small or would be too small soon (the rate I was gaining was horrendous!). I went "shopping" in my other closet and came out with 10 new or almost new blouses and a couple pairs of slacks! Some had tags still attached!????. I saved that money I was going to use for another time when I can spend it on REALLY small clothes. ????????????Woohoo!
