laura4923 got a reaction from Laydee_G in 6 month follow up

I absolutely love your post...reach out, don't eat it out. That is brilliant!! It really hits the nail on the head.
I am in my 4th month of my preop diet as required by insurance. While I've lost 19#...I have days where I struggle to not exceed my 1200 calories. The head hunger is very powerful.
I am going to reach out and not eat it out as I head towards my August 25 sleeve date.
Thank you for such an inspirational post!!

I am going to vote for purrigo pigmentosa. It seems this rash is common when looking at other places where people are in ketosis. The treatment is with one of two antibiotics- minocycline or doxycycline. Your case seems to be persistent and severe. I would take the info on the prurigo pigmentosa to your surgeon or pcp. They should be able to give you a script and get you feeling better. The ketones in the blood stream effect the blood vessels and make your skin erupt in this rash.
I am a pain service nurse and am on schedule to have surgery the end of August.
    Best of luck to you!!

laura4923 got a reaction from Babbs in Low grade fever okay post-op?
Low grade fever is normal after any surgery! It is your body's response to the inflammation caused by just having most of your stomach removed. Follow your post op instructions and call if >101 or if you have foul drainage or red, angry looking incisions.
Hope this helps...I'm a nurse and these are the instructions we give our patients at discharge.

Sorry to hear about all the negative responses people can get. I will be sleeved in August and one of my sisters is very much against this surgery. Other than my sister, the response from friends and family has been very positive and supportive.
It seems that obesity is an epidemic that everyone has an opinion about. I feel like I'm tired of living in the shadows and if asked, I will be open about my journey. I want to help take away the stigma attached to WLS. I tired of being ashamed and I am excited to pave the way.
The support group and exercise classes that I have attended have been so helpful. I've met people in every phase of their journey.
I am so grateful for this opportunity and if I can help just one more person emerge from the shadows of obesity by knowing my story...I am glad to help!!

laura4923 got a reaction from jane13 in Anybody older doing this?
I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in December. I hate wearing my CPAP...I am a nurse so I know the risks if I don't. I decided that my joints are killing me, I want to get rid of my CPAP and be healthy and active as I head towards retirement in 12 years. I work as a pain service nurse based in surgery. There are 5 staff members that have had a VSG, all are enjoying amazing health with no regrets! I decided that before I ended up with diabetes or high blood pressure I better make a serious change!

Welcome older one!! I am 54! I will finish my 6 month pre op required diet and exercise in August and I hoping to be sleeved in August!! I've lost 20#. BMI is 40.9.
I am glad to meet some people my age as it seems like there are a lot of 20 and 30 year ages.
Congrats on your decision and I look forward to sharing your success!!

laura4923 got a reaction from Jerr_Bear in September seems like it will never get here!
Does anyone else have a long waiting period? I have a 6 month diet and exercise requirement for meritain insurance. It feels like it is just dragging by a a snails pace. I started March 1st so the earliest my surgery will be is in September. Ugh! I am encouraged reading about others journeys and can't wait to be on the post op side!

My final straw- I was diagnosed with sleep apnea. I can't stand the CPAP. I had been thinking about gastric sleeve surgery for over a year. I started my 6 month pre op diet/ exercise program that is required by my insurance in March. I should be able to have my surgery in September. I'm 54 and ready to be healthy and active. My surgeon believes my sleep apnea will resolve once I get to a normal BMI. I am at 42 right now. I am so excited and look forward to sharing my journey!

I'm sorry to hear about your friends reaction. It sounds like she needs some education and that she is also worried or afraid.
My sister, who is heavier than I am, reacted in a similar way. She said" well at least you have 6 months to change your mind" ( in reference to the pre op diet, waiting period).
I did my best to educate her and told her that WLS is my choice and a tool to reach and maintain my goals!
I am fortunate that the rest of my family is supportive as well as my friends and co workers.
Does your surgeon have a support group? My hospital has a group that meets every month. It really helps to talk to others and hear about their journey.
I am in my second pre op month and should be able to be sleeved in September!
You can do this and you have a big group of friends here to cheer you on!!
