carolinacrumb88 got a reaction from lisaluvsgreys in 8 weeks since surgery and I think I am flunking this test!
@@erenee I am so sorry you are struggling with feeling restriction When I was banded this was a huge issue for me (even with 8 cc of saline in band!) and I am terrified about it happening with my new sleeve too. I am only a week out so only time will tell, but I can't imagine how frustrating it must be! But you are NOT a failure... 2lbs is no big deal as we usually fluctuate between 2 and 5 lbs in Water weight a day, and at least you are aware that feeling full is an issue for you. Hopefully you and your doc can figure out whats going on... are you sipping or drinking while you eat? Know that you are not alone. Wish you the best.

The best thing you can do, for YOUR situation, is to call your surgical team. They have all the answers for you particular need, AND you paid them for it!!!

So I actually talked to my doctor today and he said I could try some Soups like chili etc if I pureed them well. I was able to tolerate 3oz of bison chili and it was amazing and this is the first time I am not hungry since surgery!!!

I am 10 days out and have been CRAVING real food. I do realize that it is "head hunger", I don't feel hungry. The broth is just not satisfying me. I was able to add in cream of potato Soup and I ate a bit of very thin refried Beans today. I do find that I am full very, very quickly. I will say that I am looking forward to eating "real" food.

Are you taking all the Vitamins prescribed? The B vitamins are essential for energy, so make sure if you don't already take them, call your surgical team and ask what your dosage should be. Also, have you had your thyroid level checked, before AND after the surgery? This little guy plays an important role in your life, and if he is not acting properly, you will have some not-so-good consequences. All the best to you....keep us informed!

@@ckj I am so sorry you are feeling crummy I have read that this happens to some patients 1 to 2 months after surgery as your body's way of attempting to conserve energy in the face of severe calorie restriction. Unfortunately, the only way to push through this is to exercise (which sounds absolutely awful when you are already tired!). Take it slow and one day at a time. It sounds crazy, but the more you exercise the more energy you have. Start by walking just ten minutes a day at a fast pace, then increase as you can. I feel your pain because I have a condition called hypersomnia which is basically excessive daytime sleepiness where I always feel tired and the need to nap. I take a medication called concerta to regulate this, but even then I am still pretty tired alot; however the more often I walk the better I feel and more energy I have. I hope you are able to push through this soon and feel better! Know you are not alone

Yup, Yup, and Yup. Welcome to the club. Just an idea, there are thousands of posts on this site that pertain to this subject, and the many others you will relate to, just use the search feature to look them up. And there are TONS of suggestions and tips that might help any other issues that come up (and they will; like hair loss, stalls, dumping, stalls, emotional issues, stalls, did I say stalls? Stalls.). There are as many opinions about things as there are folks on this site - maybe more!!! I am glad you are asking, because those who don't tend to have the problems. The VERY best thing to do in a stall is get out the measuring tape (actually, start the whole procedure, from day one with a tape measure), and then take ALL your measurements. This will stop the "why did I do this to myself?" thoughts in their tracks! Your measurements will show your success, even if the scale does not. And only weigh yourself once a week, at the most! I do it on Mondays, makes Mondays a lot happier! And just a side note....don't go too far away from the bathroom. All that stuff you're taking for the blockage is going to start working...just saying!

definitely had some problems post-operatively. My recommendation would be Miralax, but I'd actually stay away from the fiber - right now you're eating so little that it can bunch up and cause a blockage in your intestines, especially if you're having trouble getting all your Water in. Miralax is nice and gentle but it does take a couple of days to work.

I was told NO Metamucil ever -- it thickens up and can make a mess in your sleeve. I use Milk of Magnesia (I add a tiny bit of S/F Torani Syrup to make it palatable) occasionally and take docusate every day (PCP recommended that). I also use Benefiber in my coffee or other drinks -- you don't even know it's there.

Totally normal. The scale didnt move at all for me all last week and this week I have lost 6lbs. A real stall lasts for about 6 weeks. Your body is just moving things around and trying to adapt.

My NUT suggested Benefiber, which I have used daily for months now, with no issues. I actually use the Shopko brand, which is a lot cheaper. Got me regular, and keeps me that way. I add it to my "cocktail" in the morning, consisting of cold Water, Water Enhancer drops, unflavored Protein powder, and powdered Calcium citrate. A quick and easy way to get a lot done in a fairly tasty manner.

We are about the same days out from VSG. I asked my surgeon about the not really being able to 'feel' when I was full or not and he said that it is not uncommon on the clear and full fluids part of the plan. Stick to your doctors plan, now is the time for healing our newly stapled tummies. Good luck.

The way I see it, there are cheats that are bad for you in the sense that they can make you feel uncomfortable or nauseous.
Then there are cheats that are bad for you because they will slow your weight loss.
Then there are cheats that are bad for you because they could actually damage your new tummy while it is recovering.
To my mind, the one you need to worry most about is the third one. The first one you will learn yourself by trial and error - you will learn how to eat in a way that doesn't make you feel ill or uncomfortable. And it is different for everyone as to what makes them ill or uncomfortable.
The second one is a personal choice. Some people get WLS to change their lives 100%, and I fully respect that. These are people who make the decision that they don't want burgers or fried chicken or sweets in their life and they commit to that, and they usually do very well. But not everyone has WLS for that 100% change.
As an example, while I would love to get down to 150 lbs - if I end up at 200 lbs, I'm ok with that. I had WLS not because I want to be a perfect weight, but because I need, for my health, to be significantly lighter than I am. I want to eat less, and I want to eat better - I need to have a better relationship with unhealthy food. For me, that's not a total denial, but adopting the same moderate approach that everyone else can manage without surgery.
So if you want to cheat and the consequence is that it will slow your weight loss, that is a personal decision. You are an adult, and like most people who are overweight, you are probably acutely aware of what is healthy and unhealthy - you are able to make that decision for yourself.
It is the third cheat you need to be careful with - because becoming seriously ill due to a leak is not a choice you want to be making.
One of the issues I sometimes have on this site is that the three cheats get conflated - you ask a question about something wondering if it is dangerous to eat X or Y, and you'll get lots of advice about why eating X or Y will slow your weight loss. But you probably already know that.
I think we should all be clearer whether we think something should be avoided because it's dangerous, or because it's just a bad food decision.

Glad you asked this question! I might have been asking it myself in a couple of weeks if I didn't see your post!!!
I've only been on this site a few weeks and there are so many rude people on here (Babbs just to name one)... But thank goodness there are more positive people that negative! Lol
If you can't say something in a nice way... Don't let your little fingers type in a response.... Duh...
We are all scared, and want good results and a good experience!!! So I hope your NUT can help you when you see her!
I've been given a strict diet plan for before (start tomorrow) and after. What to and not to eat for seven weeks post, so it's clear to me what I have to do! I'm not much of a meat person anyway but I'm gonna hold off of meats and salads until 7-8 weeks out!
    Personal preference!
But I'm gonna try to stick to it!
Good luck and ignore the #haters they aren't perfect either!!!

@@McButterpants Yes, I agree. I should perhaps edit original post bc I think I am not asking what I want answered correctly. I am going to talk to my doc and nutritionist tomorrow (and before eating anything new) but was curious if others were as hungry as I am and craving real food this early.
