Hi there - I live in Boise and had the sleeve surgery back in June. I am sure it'll go great, just remember to sip that Water afterward and move around as much as you can to work out any gas. You got this!

I just wanted to say hello - I am getting sleeved June 4 but will be doing so outside of Boise, as I am self-pay. I really want to attend a support group at St. Luke's but I'm not sure that's Kosher if I'm not a patient of Drs. Korn or Valentine? Hope you all enjoyed the sunshine today.

Yes! I was sleeved by Dr. Ortiz on June 4. Great care before, during and after. The facility is top-notch and everything rolled just as I expected it to. He's clearly very skilled and while there are many great choices, Dr. Ariel Ortiz is certainly one of them. Best wishes.

It disturbs me that models even the plus size models are sold to us as the standard of beauty we should strive for. Air brushed photos and clothing tailored to fit their body. When I try on the same clothing it never looked the way it looked on the advertisement or manikin in the store.

I figured something didn't smell right about this topic....
AustinJackson's IP address (189.220.27.35) is located in Mexico and is most likely another coordinator. I'm attaching a screenshot of the IP:

AustinJackson has also signed up for multiple accounts on or around the same date that they signed up (xixmartoxix85 etc.)
The surgeon that was listed for illegally operating is Dr. Jesus Manuel Baez Lopez (cosmetic surgeon) who is partners with Dr. Sergio Quinones. You can see a picture of Dr. Jesus Manuel Baez Lopez clearly at http://santafemedicalgroup.com/page/dr-jesus-manuel-baez-lopez as well as here:

This is NOT the Dr. Jesus Martin Lopez Dominguez we work with. Here is a picture of Dr. Jesus Martin Lopez Dominguez:

Me.... I can't stop buying sexy underwear.... I know it's crazy. But one of the first things i did was threw out all the un-sexy white high-wasted cotton draws..... Now i look forward each month to getting the coupon in the mail from VS. My underwear drawer use to be a sea of white ugliness..... now it bright and cheerful....
I would have said sex... but i don't think "by yourself" counts.... lol

@ we are surgery pals! My date is 6/4 also, and I will be in TJ with OCC (the "other" Dr. Ortiz). I am pretty anxious and getting started with pre-op diet, exercise, and getting into the right mindset.

I did not seriously over eat. I got an ulcer which caused a leak 18 months out. Ulcers are more common then you think in WLS patients. And steps need to be taken to avoid this happening. I am on some pretty strong meds now to avoid another one. The abscess is still there but no longer connected to the leak. Sometimes s**t happens and when we make blank statements like that it can keep us from being well informed.

I definitely was impressed by the surgical center. I had made a pact with my mom and dad that if anyone of us saw anything we didn't like or felt uneasy in any way that they would speak up and we would all get the hell out of there. They picked us up on time in San Diego and were very organized. They called me in my room to tell me when to leave on surgery day and called me a few times throughout the stay when things needed to be changed. They were very organized preop. Everyone sits together in the lobby and goes one by one to get labs drawn, your EKG, and weigh in and nutritionist consult. The private room was very clean and they had good cable (I watch I Love Lucy every day and watched my show the morning after surgery). Nothing looked worn or second hand and I'm super nit picky when it comes to cleanliness because I'm a bit of a germaphobe honestly. The wifi didn't work while I was there so I wasn't able to communicate with people back home until I got to the Marriott which wasn't a big deal anyway since both my parents were with me. The operating room was spotless- I'm not kidding it really was. I looked all around when I walked in. I really can appreciate that because I've been in many ORs that are overfilled with junk for multiple procedures that take place- this one was clean. They even have a hover air mat for transferring you easily from bed to bed and I've only worked at one hospital here that has that. The nurses were fine but their English was not as good as the Doctors but it was ok. I didn't have trouble communicating with anyone. One I think got perturbed with me because she wanted to give me some medicine to calm me down but I was totally calm so I didn't want to take it- I ultimately did because my mom said just take it I was impressed because my nurse looked super young and she got a huge IV in me on her first stick. I was still was a little scared before I went to the OCC but when I got there, I truly felt a calm come over me. I wanted to remain positive because I believe it's important to have a good outcome. I knew everything would be ok. There was a bit of waiting because they put you in order from easiest case to most difficult I believe once they evaluate everyone having surgery that day so there's no set time for your surgery. You hang out in your room watching TV until it's your turn then they take you to use the bathroom and to the OR you go! You won't see the surgeons in the OR- the anesthesiologist and the operative nurse will be there and that's standard in any OR- the surgeon is last person to go in after you're prepped. There were 2 nurses in the beginning after surgery but I think one nurse only throughout night. I was up every couple hours walking but I think most everyone else slept (all the doors to everyone's room are left open). It's weird- we became a little family. I will say some of the people in the group were annoyed that when they got back to OCC for dressing changes they had to wait. It didn't bother me though because seriously what else is there for me to do? All I was going to do is go back to the hotel and sleep anyway. I guess postop could have been more organized, but again I had nothing else to do but walk and eat Popsicles I didn't watch the cable at the hotel but I don't think it was great. I accessed my home TV on my computer. I will say when you first drive in its typical Tijuana- I'm not sure where you're from but Tijuana can be a bit unsettling when you drove around- people are very aggressive there like any other Mexican city you drive in. But when you get to the Marriott it's nice. All in all I was definitely impressed. I don't feel I got sub par care because I went to Mexico. I feel I picked the right surgeon for me- Dr Ortiz is not arrogant in any way shape or form. He's is super personable, energetic, and bubbly. I wasn't expecting him to be that way at all- he was way more serious in his videos. I found him to be genuine in his conversation. I believe he loves what he does. Being someone who's around MDs all day, they don't act like that girl!! It's rare. And BTW- you see my surgery was 10 months ago. People STILL freak out when I say I went to Mexico. It's understandable- people get nervous and I would've thought the same thing if someone I cared about told me they were going to a foreign country for surgery. You're going to get that even later after you've lost you're weight and your sitting right in front of them skinny and talking about it with everything ok Everyone knows someone who something bad happened to and you know what I say to that? Well I know tons of people who are doing amazing and I communicate with them on a regular basis! If you look on here there are almost 200 people who've been to OCC as patients. I didn't see any doctors in the states with that many patients you could communicate with. I stalked everyone on here I could looking for a reason not to go and I couldn't find one. Sorry for the long post I you have any other questions don't hesitate to message me So many people helped me on here with my decision and calming me down while I was freaking out preop so I definitely want to pay it forward. Ok I do have one major complaint about the OCC- those stupid paper underwear! My @$$ was too big for them and I had to go commando! They need bigger undies!

It's official!!!! I made it! It's all still pretty surreal. I feel good. The incisions are sore but other than that I'm great! I've been nursing gatorade all day. My sister and her husband are currently sight seeing. I went to the marcado hildago this morning. We had no idea it was an all food farmer's market. I wasn't the least bit hungry but I was kinda jealous of all the things they have here that I can't get at home! Ok..time to order some broth. I was told the seafood broth is amazing. But I think at this point anything is going to be amazing.
Thanks for all the well wishes! I'm about to rock this new life with everything I have!

Gr8fulday reacted to Smye in Real Food, Real Weightloss, Still Delicious
Hello BariBrothers, BariSisters, BariFamilies, and general lovers of healthy, good food. My name is Smye and I live on a small farm in the Pacific Northwest.
During both pre and post op appointments with my nutritionist, I was horrified by the suggested things I could eat once I was back to 'regular foods.' The suggestions I was given were flavorless, full of preservatives & junk, and/or otherwise reminiscent of the american 'instafoods' that are, in my opinion, a huge part of the original problems. That said, I wanted to share some of the real, whole foods I've been enjoying lately without hurting my sleeve or deviating from the dietary guidelines provided to me by my NUT. I'm down 86 lb since I started this journey on Jan 22, 2015, and loving every meal as much as, or more than, pre-op.

I've spent the last 7 years accommodating good food to meet my partner's corn, dairy, and gluten allergies without losing any of the flavor or texture with 80% of all ingredients sourced from my own small farm, so it wasn't too big of a jump to make these recipes low carb, high Protein and delicious.

Over the next few weeks I'll be posting recipes like:

    Bariatric BibimBop
    Pho
    Pastrami Sandwich
    Madras curry with fried tofu
    chicken tenders with sauce
Sushi - Philadelphia rolls in particular
    Personal Pizzas
    Smoked cherry-glazed chicken
    Barbeque-smoked chicken
    Ham and cheese omlette
    Pickled duck eggs
    Quiche
    Ham, egg & cheese sandwiches
    Bari-bread
    Guacamole Cheeseburgers
    And many more

There's no need for food to be tasteless, uninteresting, or questionable in it's contents. If there's something you'd like to see that's not here, please PM me and I'll do my best - I also make sure to try everything myself and feed it to my executive chef neighbor before I post it to ensure it's excellent!

Gr8fulday reacted to JustWatchMe in Wow. I really changed a habit.
It's been over a month since I started a new thing in my day. I started a routine of walking stairs at work.
Three times a day I walk down 4 flights and up four flights. That's 24 flights of stairs a day. 504 steps.
I do it midmorning, then midday, then midafternoon.
I do this five days a week.
And now it's really a habit. It's easy. It's my routine. I don't have to think about it anymore. I just do it. So much so that I'm considering adding another set of eight flights because I'm often getting my three sets in before lunch.
This is what my new life post WLS is all about. New habits. New patterns.
I'm not a gym rat. But I love to walk now. I also started walking outside on my lunch hour at work. On the days I do this, I easily get in 2-1/4 to 2-1/2 miles. On my lunch break. With arthritic knees yet. This habit is about three weeks old and I do it when the weather permits. So much better than sitting in my car for an hour with a lunch of fried chicken strips.
I need to put this out there because my weight loss has slowed. No, stopped. I want it to start again. I want to lose the last fifty. The first hundred was awesome. Time for the last fifty.
I believe it will happen. If this old broad can make these two changes and enjoy them, anything is possible.
