I was also sleeved on Wednesday, am having a very easy time so far, am getting in all of my liquids and have got one Protein shake down, along with my Vitamins and my crushed meds (yuck). Stomach muscles are still very sore, and I think I sprained my right wrist getting out of bed yesterday (nurse was not a lot of help) because it is sore as hell. had a little gas one day post op but all in all I'm feeling pretty well. I have also made a lap on the treadmill and will try to get on it at least twice more today.
    Congrats on your success.

Hi all! My surgery was on Wednesday, and I am home from the hospital today. I am taking Clear liquids better and better, and my pain is probably a 6. I'm due for another dose of liquid Oxycodin in an hour, so my pain will be close to zilch then. NO GAS PAIN! I was so worried about the trapped air that so many suffer from, but had none of it. The six incisions cause no discomfort at all, it just feels like I got punched in the stomach a bunch of times.
The nausea has been a bummer, but it comes from the pain meds, and the anti-nausea medication does it's job. I'm standing up at the kitchen counter typing this, so I'm already pretty mobile. BEST of luck to each of you this month! We're going to be SO GLAD we did this!!

I felt the same way at first, I told my husband and adult children, then in the last week I started to tell a few others. I know the word will probably get out but I am ok with that. At first I thought I don't need anyone being negative, I just want positive thoughts. So if anyone is negative I just cut them off and said positive thoughts only please and so far its been good. Good luck Lisa!

Welcome back, stay and don't leave - even when you are back at the place you want to be. I'm 3 years post op, still not at the place I want to be weight wise, some gain too. I can see how alcohol can be the new 'friend' and I purposely keep an eye on that as there are others who have reported on here how so easily it replaced their friend food.
What is your plan of attack, are you going to go Protein drinks for a few days, log using myfitnesspal, low carb, no alcohol? You have done this before and you know what works for you.
I need this site, I lurk more than I post but I pick up valuable tips and advice and there is a group of people I can call on if I need help.
There is the vets part of the site but I'm a bit unsure on what the conditions are for posting there. I think you have to be so many months post op and have a certain number of postings. Vets post there about their struggles and successes.
Take it one day at a time, we can't change what we did yesterday, we don't know what is going to happen tomorrow but we can plan and alter things during today so that by the end of it we can say to ourselves "it might not be perfect but I tried my best".

I was blessed to have people who supported (and paided) for me to get this tool...gastric sleeve in August 2009. I want to say it here and now, do not step away from this forum when you are feeling good and that all is done. Do not let the embarrassment, shame or even despair keep you away AND if you are new to the forum, please be aware it can happen and always, ALWAYS come back.
So here is my deal, I have gained 57 lb. back...totally walked away thinking I've got this and then life continues to happen. I would occasionally come back to the forum; however, was embarrassed because there were discussions about putting 5 or even 10 lbs. back on which made me feel that I really really messed up and feeling like a major failure. So, this is my way of overcoming my first obstacle...my pride AND we all need to talk about the reality WHEN it happens. Now, I'm not saying it is going to happen to everyone...truly, I am only saying WHEN so for those of us it does happen to we have a place to come back and not be humiliated or called out. Does that make sense???
I use food to deal with stress, anxiety and all that other junk...LOL. I want to put a caution out there...I had the food sort of under control and then have come to the realization that alcohol was now my new friend and over a period of the last 3 years the weight started coming back on and then guess what, I noticed one day my eating habits were right back where I started.
I am grateful for the ability to have an area to come and begin again. It is my hopes to not scare anyone, I'm not a negative nelly either! Most of my friends see me as being a very positive person and yes, that is pressure as well....LOL.
Today, I am behaving like I had my surgery yesterday. I'm scared, cautious and freaked out about what I will put in my body...LOL. The beauty is I know I can do this...one sip at a time. Okay...enough for now, have tears streaming down my face, laughing and glad to be back here....

Everyone that knew what I looked like before and knows what I look like now! I am not ashamed of the way I chose to handle my weight loss. I was ashamed of weighing close to 400lbs. I am very excited and empowered by my results both on and off the scale.

Debiann813 reacted to Babbs in Fear of STRETCHING Sleeve!
It doesn't stretch. The swelling from the surgery goes down and you are able to eat more without feeling as much restriction. This is a gradual effect as months go by.
The part of the stomach that is left after surgery is the less "stretchy" part. You would have to eat to the point of vomiting every day for a long time to get your sleeve to stretch even a little, unlike the pouch from a bypass that can stretch quite a bit over time with overeating.
I never took 45 minutes to eat, never chewed my food to a paste, and now can drink 16 oz of Water in about 10 minutes or so. And I still have great restriction at 8 months out. Keep in mind the amount of restriction you have depends on what you are eating. The denser the Protein, the better restriction you'll have. Things like crackers, Cookies, and chips will cause little or no restriction. If you keep to the rules of the sleeve ( no drinking before or after eating after a certain amount of time, measuring your food and stopping when satisfied not full, Protein first, then veggies, then if you have room starch) you will have restriction even after your stomach has healed and loosened up a bit months and even years down the road.

I completed all my requirements the end of March, met my surgeon April 9 and told my surgery date would be May 28. I was so bummed, 7 weeks of waiting. I have been going crazy. I honestly think I could write a book with all the research I have done in the last 6 months and now I was being told I needed to wait almost 2 more months. I thought I was going to lose my mind. Every day has been a battle of making sure I have been doing everything and to be told I have 7 more weeks of walking on egg shells. Luckily for me I did not have to lose any pre surgery weight, but it is just as hard maintaining my weight, especially knowing that I cannot gain any weight. Four months ago I went up two pounds and was reminded of the program's no weight gain policy, it didn't matter that I was just 3months smoke free, where many individuals that quit smoking gain 20 plus pounds within the first 6 months.
With this extra time I have been trying to keep busy, I have all my Vitamins, Protein Powder, stuff for the hospital... Now if I could only make the weeks fly by. I teach middle school and course this is Spring vacation so I have a week off and the forecast is rain all week so I cannot even go outside and enjoy a good walk. I know I need to not be so impatient, up it is so hard, I have never wanted anything as much as I want this. Sometimes I wonder if I have my hopes for this too high and once it happens it will be a big let down.

@@butterfly56 - I think it is a normal part of the process to have doubts. You are human . If you read my blog you can see I started my journey in 2012, got scared of loosing food and stopped the process to try again without surgery. Well I did try and have lost and gained. During that time my husband suffered an injury that left him non weight bearing. My weight made it hard for me to hekp him when he needed me most. I also realized thst if I had suffered thst same injury, I did not have the strength or mobility he had to move himself into the wheelchair. He is well now praise God, but the experience made me take a fresh look at what is important. Food has been too important for too long for me.
Just give yourself the time to think it through until you come to the point you know if it is right for you.
You ultimately make the if and when. Good luck and ((hugs))

My original surgery date was April 1st --- which is funny, because it did end up being an April Fools joke. Half way through the pre-op diet and one week prior to surgery, we found out that my insurance had an exclusion for out-of-network bariatric services. EIGHT MONTHS I had been with this surgery group and we find out just days before the date. It was like being pregnant for 8 1/2 months, buying new nursery items, changing my diet, going to a zillion check-ups only to be told "Actually, you're not having a baby after all". Anyway, the very same day I contacted an in-network provider and my surgery has been re-scheduled almost one month to the day of the original date.
All things happen for a reason! I have my pre-op appointment this afternoon, and I'm getting REALLY excited!!

Congrats to all the May Sleevers who have dates!! I am still tentative for May 6th but have run into a few hurdles . Completed EGD which revealed a previously unknown hiatal hernia which can be fixed during the sleeve surgery. The hurdles include a few issues that occurred during EGD which led to confirmation of sleep apnea and cardiac abnormalities. Waiting to hear outcome of attempts to get insurance to assist with CPAP machine ( covered the sleep study myself and also doing self pay for sleeve so am hoping they will assist with CPAP). Have appointment with cardiologist this week, no history of heart problems but evidentially there were some issues with the sedation during EGD. I am trying to stay positive and have started my 3 week preop diet a few days early:). Thanks for letting me vent:)
