Hun at this point there's no going back, the sleeve is only a tool, we make the decision on what we put in our mouths. My dietician thoroughly explained to me what the diet entailed both pre-op and post-op, so I don't understand how you couldn't have known? But since you say you didn't the only thing you can do now is stop sabotaging yourself and stick to the plan as closely as possible. Right now our stomachs are healing, so it's very dangerous to just try anything at this point. I know it sucks, I'm in the same process you are in now, but trust your surgeon and team, they want nothing but success for you!

Because my BMI was also 28, I had my VSG in Mexico on December 2012.
I reached my goal in 6 months and went below goal by 10 lbs,, for a total of 50 lbs. lost.
I have nothing but positive things to say about having this done. My whole life was a struggle with my weight and I had been heavier at various times, but decided to stop the madness!
Menopause, age and a lower metabolism had made it virtually impossible to lose any weight without this surgery.
I am maintaining my weight loss without any issues and determined to keep doing so.
I wear a size 0 and wouldn't give that up for anything!

Doing good here, I'm losing about a pound a day too! 18.1lbs down since surgery. I dropped some pounds right after surgery and then had one day where I lost 2lbs in a day, but the 1lb loss has been pretty steady so far. I am really sucking at getting my protein in, but liquids are good. I think I'll have an easier time once I can use food to meet goals instead of these protein waters. I am so over this liquid diet lol...but it has been a great reset for cravings! I look at other VSGers on Instagram to get ideas for low carb meals and I just want to lick my phone screen lol ugh well get there!

@foreversleeved08. How are you? I've graduated to baby food consistency foods. Not cleared by Ganta but just started playing around first with Protein shakes, then a tiny bit of cream of wheat with mootopia, tonight 3-4 tablespoons of cream of chicken Soup.
So weird how the tiniest amount fills you up! How are your energy levels?
    I'm kinda tired!

sleeved the 19th around 10:30am. The first day wasn't bad but as general anesthesia wore off, the IV pain meds were NOT my friend. SO nauseous. powered through it (after puking some yellow bile) and got up and walked laps probably 4x that afternoon/evening. Dry mouth was horrendous... even with the swabs.
thankfully I went for leak test around 8:30am so I was allowed to sip Water starting around 9:30am. finally around the 2pm shift change, nurse figured out it was IV pain meds causing the super nausea (since I kept begging for more anti-nausea and acid reducer, thinking that was the problem). switched to liquid hydrocodone and problem solved (although it did conk me out).
Discharged 2nd day around 6pm, hubby stopped and got Rx filled while I walked around. got a bag of sonic ice and unsweet peach tea and headed home.
haven't really taken pain meds since day #4 (even then, was to sleep) so feeling really blessed of easy recovery. also very lucky (TMI) to have 1st BM on Sunday evening. BUT then tonight, have had watery diarrhea 2x
anyone else suffering with this? Is Imodium safe to take? all I have is pill form but I could chew it up. I know I'll definitely be adding a bit of sugar-free Fiber to Water tonight and all liquids tomorrow but also dont want to be running (literally) to toilet all night .
Also very worried b/c supposed to start back at work in a couple days.... definitely don't want this problem at work!
(I have another 8 days of full liquids before purees..... sigh)
reassurance/advice/suggestions appreciated! hope everyone else's recovery is moving along smoothly....

You only need to lose like 15 pounds and you want to consider weight loss surgery?? I feel that Is WAY to extreme...I pray & would be thrilled to ever get down to a 30 BMI . Lap- band is invasive and like the other member said it has its own list of problems. Your insurance will cover this? These surgeries are extreme measures to lose weight that is why they feel your BMI should be over 40 or 35 with certain pre-existing medical conditions.

Thank you everyone for your comments. It makes sense to me about not doing it with a lower BMI. However, I have struggled for years with my weight and even though on the charts I'm considered "overweight", I guess I should continue to try an alternate route other than WLS. Someone mentioned having lap band instead. Does anyone agree with this?

This is just my opinion...if it's something that you want then go for it....however if my BMI was that low I would try other options first. whether you have surgery or start healthy eating habits, it is all a huge lifestyle change, especially WLS. they both come with their own pros, cons, and sacrifices. Most people that I know who have had it have tried all other options and failed for years prior to deciding to have surgery. I know if eating healthier and working out the way that many do worked for me, I wouldn't have gone this route. Doing this will not change the fact that you'll have to make healthier choices just because you can eat so little to be satisfied. Instead of working out, eating healthier, and then deciding to have a a sweet or burger in moderation isn't so easy post surgery. And don't get me started on the awkwardness that comes with going out to eat and family get togethers. Once it's done, it's done and you will have to commit to everything it entails.
I don't know your struggle or your reasons for considering WLS, but if it's something you want, just research as much as you can that way you are fully prepared . this surgery has had such a positive impact on so many people, but it comes with its challenges just like everything else. Best of luck with whatever you decide ❤️

foreversleeved08 reacted to LipstickLady in When I see a seriously overweight young woman, I have this overwhelming urge...
I want to approach her and hand her literature on the benefits of WLS. I want to urge her to drop that doughnut. those fries, that frappaccino and start a lowcarb/high Protein diet NOW NOW NOW while she still has good knees, a strong back, a great metabolism. I want to tell her to get that weight off NOW so she can spend her 20s and 30s looking great in the latest fashions, enjoy shopping at ANY store, maintain her healthy heart.

But I won't and it kills me. EVERY.SINGLE.DAY.
I have two girls in high school and I just see teens getting bigger and bigger and bigger. I remember when I was "curvier" than most of the girls in my high school and I was a size 2! I wasn't fat by any means, but most of the girls had stick arms and legs, no boobs, no hips. Now these girls have big bums, huge boobs, muffin tops that make Dunkin Donuts jealous. There used to be 5 or 6 heavier teens in a grade, now about 40% of them are in the overweight range if not almost obese.

I am not saying WLS is the answer for teens, but I am wondering when we are going to get it together and teach our children good nutrition NOW so they don't suffer with obesity later. I seriously worry about the future of our kids' health.

This is exactly what happened to me. I haven't had a period that heavy since my teens. And I'm on the pill too. My next period was completely normal for me though, so it seemed like a one-time thing due to the stress to the body after surgery.

foreversleeved08 reacted to Essence46 in Why is it important to eat after dinner
Oh my goodness!! Everyone should just do what works for them. What works for some may not work for others. I had dinner around 6 pm which was about 4 ounces of cabbage. I know I haven't eaten enough food/calories today. My body tells me when I haven't eaten enough. I am sitting here now eating two deviled eggs because I am hungry and will be up until at least 1 am. I don't think an after dinner snack will kill you as long as you don't do it every day and you are eating something healthy. Again do what is best for you.

I read somewhere that sometimes when you lose belly fat it releases the stored estrogen. Some people have teenage like symptoms such as zits, moodiness and heavy periods.

Just a thought, if you're not ready don't beat urself up over it there will be many others im sure!

This is probably about more than just food. Is it possible that family dynamics are also playing a part? While your MIL may feel like she shouldn't cook specifically for you, she may be hurt that you refuse to go to the house.
I understand wanting to stay away from trigger foods but what about bringing your own food? You order food in a restaurant that's a better choice for you so why not bring better food choices to your MIL's house?
I'm truly sympathetic to your concerns...heck, my family often unintentionally tries to sabotage my progress. They are very happy that I've done so well, but can't understand why I sit at the table with an empty plate in front of me when I've finished my meal and don't reach for seconds.
That's when I remind them that eating small portions is what helped me to lose the weight. Why not try to accomodate your MIL while still making sure you don't put yourself in a risky position? However, if it's something you just cannot do right now, I would agree that you must take care of yourself first and do what's best for you.
Good luck...I know how mothers-in-law can be...which is why I try hard not to be that way with my daughters-in-law...lol.

I think this part was easy for me. I'm a vegetarian with food allergies. Unless I was out with only vegetarians I was always odd man out. I was never tempted to eat the foods I'm allergic to because my allergy reaction was anaphylaxis.
I learned long ago to either not eat or bring my own. I also became quite adept at informing people beforehand. I'd say something like "I'd love to come & spend time with you all but I can't have ____. I don't want to put you out. Do you mind if I bring my own?"
If the family was having lasagna, you could have done a ricotta bake. Similar flavors so you wouldn't feel deprived. Sometimes people would ask what I could eat and make it for me, but I never expected that.
I always made sure people knew it was their company that I valued the most.

Lol I think I set myself up for too much being a first time surgery, but it is what it is! Im actually feeling back to my normal self today thank goodness. The first 3 days were exhausting, I was having to nap off and on through out the day. Getting fluids in is definitely the key for me, I've been working on Jello today to help when we progress to full liquids, I'm hoping on Monday! I've practiced with different amount of sips, and I think I've got down how much is a comfortable sip for me at the moment
One thing I have noticed is lower back pain! but I haven't taken any pain medicine today because frankly pills were hard for me to swallow pre surgery, I would need a lot of Water and can't quite do that now. Ive done pretty well with none today surprisingly!
I'm so sorry to hear that you are still feeling weak and fatigued, give ur body time though, I think you are doing amazing, setting goals like a champ!
And you are not alone, I am sick of liquids lol I feel as though I'm ready to progress to full liquids, but will wait until I am approved to do so. I'm sure we will have to fight ourselves a lot with this so I'm not about to start off on the wrong foot so soon in the game. Protein is a struggle for me, and sadly is not my main priority, but I'm working on it. I am really concentrated on not dehydrating myself as it seems to make everything worse if I don't get liquids at least.
I'm 11lbs down, but I know this will slow as we start to incorporate richer and denser foods!
I could eat some cream of wheat! Mmmmmm
