TMG1980TMG reacted to OKCPirate in Male attention freaking me out
Pardon the interruption ladies, but this isn't an area to shuffled off of lightly. I found it fascinating how much male attention can affect women...http://www.ptsd.va.gov/public/PTSD-overview/women/traumatic-stress-female-vets.asp
The ladies who served as nurses landed in theater and were the only Caucasian women there and were overwhelmed...only to come home and be ignored. It is a subject that shouldn't be ignored. It brings up so many issues and some can be quite traumatic.
    I'll quietly leave now.

Yep, there are several ladies on this forum in their 50's and 60's.
I was 59 when sleeved in March 2012. Had no complications, lost weight steadily and rapidly without even one stall, and consider it to be the best thing I've ever done for myself.
Others will chime in shortly, I'm sure.
I was worried that I was too old, but my surgeon took my hands in his, looked me in the eye, and convinced me otherwise. I am forever grateful.
    Good luck!!

Surgery was 9/29/15- 11 weeks ago.

TMG1980TMG reacted to JamieLogical in when do you feel normal eating again (small portions still)?
Yikes. Dairy was a big staple for me in those early weeks especially. I relied heavily in cottage cheese and yogurt. Without those options, I think you may have to do a lot of Protein shakes and things like Unjury's Protein chicken broth. It'll probably be a ittle while before you can actually handle meat of any sort. I remember the first time I tried tuna once I was allowed and it sounds like your experience with the chicken. It was like lead in my stomach after only a couple of bites.
Hang in there! Once you are onto solid foods, you will have a lot more options. But do try your best to get in your Protein Shakes at least for now.

Guess it's another all docs are different issue. Mine said don't use it for and chronic things or long term but a few here and there for a headache or something were fine but not more than 600mg.
The issue is that it irritates the lining of the stomach and that is a risk for developing ulcers. If you have a normal stomach and get an ulcer that won't go away they can do surgery and remove that part of the stomach. With how little stomach we have that could be a huge problem.

TMG1980TMG reacted to winklie in So yet again I find myself here talking about my ass.
Before surgery we got along quite well. It knew what I expected and I knew what it expected. We worked together. Since surgery it's been on extreme or another. Either I think I am about to pass gas, and...... wind up doing a load of laundry that is nasty, OR days go by where I forget I even have an ass because it does nothing except pass actual gas.
I have been trying to up my Fiber but I am still on stage 4, so no fibrous veggies yet. Chili has been wonderful with the exception of the gas (thanks to whoever discovered gas-x!)
This is how I have felt for the last 10 days or so. See attached image.
So I talked to my Surgeons PA and she suggested double doses of Miralax until I got settled. 3 days and nothing but more of the above. I get over 100oz of Water a day, so that's not it. I called her back and she suggested Milk of Magnesia, commonly referred to as MOM. 4 Tablespoons, lots of tummy grumbling and more of the above. So today I took a double dose of Miralax, and forgot I did and took MOM as well.
    Fast forward two hours......
MOM should stand for Massive Out coming Mixture. I thought I was going to pass a bit of gas, and managed to hold off long enough to get to the commode. What happened next is too graphic for publication. I CAN tell you that my recent 'stall' ended I lost 5 pounds in about a 1/2 a hour.
So the lesson here is Trust in MOM. But whatever you do, DO NOT combine it with Miralax, Or you will have the worst case of volcano ass you can imagine.
This has been a public service announcement.

TMG1980TMG reacted to The Candidate in Is dumping syndrome forever?
That's one of the reasons why I chose bypass. The fear of dumping is a powerful motivator. I couldn't stop myself from making bad food choices on my own before surgery. After surgery, with the physical aid of restriction, and the psychological fear of dumping working in tandem, I'm doing very well. ????

Hi all, I've decided I can literally eat anything I want and the scale will either A): Not budge or B: Go down. It doesn't make any sense. I can eat super healthy and stay the same or eat chocolate cake and junk food all day and lose a pound. I'm not sure if this is a good thing or not. I don't particularly want to lose anymore right now. I'm pretty happy with where I'm at. Anyone else have this "problem". How do you STOP losing weight?

    I'm three months out.
I had one of the rougher recoveries. I've had kidney stones from struggles to stay hydrated. I've cried over food more times in the past 10 weeks than I've cried in my life. I've been hormonal as hell. Dumping is boarder line torture.
But you know what, I wouldn't trade this for anything. Feeling normal comes back with time.
I don't have to shop in plus sizes any more.
I'm completely off all my heartburn meds.
I can actually sleep through the night now.
I ran my fastest mile ever my first day back at the gym.
People don't treat me different because of my weight anymore.
    I feel more confident.
I have a new healthy relationship with food.
Being on an airplane doesn't hurt anymore or feel awkward.
Working out is actually fun now.
I can take a bath that's more Water instead of fat filling the tub.
I enjoy having people take my picture now.
It's a whole new world but I love it. Don't get me wrong, it's very very hard. But as tough as it's been i would do it again in a heartbeat cuz I'm finally enjoying the life I deserve to have. I also realized we have similar starting stats. I'm 5'6, was 257 at my highest recorded weight. I probably weighed more tho honestly. I got down to 235 on my surgery day. And now I'm 189 10 weeks post op.

I have been married so many decade I cannot remember a time when I was not married. I think of myself as a five year old -- and there she is! Some of the decades were tough, but the last couple have been wonderful, in our older years. I am now a much smaller guy -- have lost the equivalent of her weight, but for all those years she gave me unconditional acceptance. Sure, once in a while she would get really worried about my health, but her concern never had any strings. In return, I give her unconditional acceptance. She has a physical disability that means I handle 95% of the daily tasks of life, which she often feels guilty about but I give her the gift of acceptance.
    Works for us.

    daveintx,
First, congratulations on your weight loss. That is a huge, huge accomplishment and it shows your commitment!
My first question is whether you have mentioned your thoughts to your wife. Is it possible she is for some reason thinking about this as “your journey” instead of “our new life?” Have you invited her explicitly to join you in a healthy lifestyle – in a non-threatening way that tells her you love her, and not in a way that says you’re now better than she is? In a way that lets her know you’ll support her and be patient as she starts to act a little healthier?
And – maybe a lot harder – have you let her know that it’s not really optional for her to help you get healthy, and in the process, get herself healthy? That you NEED her to help you because you just can’t be around someone who isn’t helpful?
Good luck. It’s a really hard thing when one of the two in the couple wants to get healthy, and the other doesn’t.

@@Nurse_Lenora I agree! This is in no means to be bashing you for your feelings Dave but you need to consider hers too. Actually we all need to consider how our spouses feel. It is not just us going through changes but they are going through them too. They are watching us change our lives and possibly wonder where they may fit in. I no my husband thinks that and he is healthy. He loved me as the fat person and I believe he will love me as the leaner one. Instead of questioning your marriage I would try to understand your wife first. As you see I said understand not question because it could come off not sounding so good.
