    Anyone getting married?

Congrats!! I'm getting married on April 19 and I'm waiting on my date!
  3. @@CanyonBaby My pre op diet was taught as a construction of three meals/day 3ounces of Protein, veggies, and a few other items. I'm gonna give the gym a try... however I feel constipated but the psych paperwork asks if I've used laxatives as a weight loss option and I don't want to do that.

    Wedding May 23

I'm getting married in two weeks and is waiting for my date. The last thing you want it to have something burdening you during your special day. Keep your focus on your wedding. Have the surgery after they honey moon.
  5. I saw my surgeon about a week and a half ago and he said I was a great candidate for the surgery. My initial weigh in was 227lbs and within four days of diet I was down to 223lbs. My surgeon has my goal of losing 3lbs for the surgery to be at 220 lbs but even though I've been watching what I eat I'm not losing anything! I am ovulating so would that be the hold up?
  6. Good for you!! Keep it up!!

  9. When I went to my orientation all doctors and presnters were adimant that smoking was not allowed and that they do give blood tests. I used to smoke a lot when I was in high school and all throughout college. When I started dating my fiance (three years ago) I've been able to manage my smoking from little to none. However, when stress got the best of me I had one or two cigarrettes and then threw away the pack some time after (They'd get stale so that'll give somewhat of an idea on how often I smoked). The last time I actaully smoked was a few months back. Do you think this'll effect my chances? Plus, they do say that second hand does come up on the blood tests and I do have family members that do smoke.
  10. This morning I attended the four hour orientation in Richmond, California as apart of Kaiser Northern California's Bariatrics Program and I did watch the mandatory WLS Surgery movie with commentary by one of the four doctors of the program. The doctor said that fatty tissue may complicate the surgery, thus the reason to losing weight preopt to make sure the success rate is high. I wasn't prepared to get weight this morning but I can assure you I'm over the BMI qualifications (I stand at 5'2 at 229 lbs -insert embarrassed face-). He also said that in the Richmond's program there isn't a set percent or weight that they can automatically give you to lose prior to surgery, however, if they feel that you need to lose weight they will tell you. So am I to lose weight and then lose more weight on the PreOpt diet? Or is it the same? What worked for you and how much did you lose? Feed back welcomed.
  11. @@vsgjess It's all a learning curve. I'm just glad I found a great site to get positive support.
  12. This sounds like a potential transfer addiction. Be careful if you do go down this path.
  13. I felt the way you did too. After taking the orientation I was kind of depressed to think that these small outings with my fiance will have to either be limited or eliminated because of how I feel about food... however, after a nice nap my views changed. Your thinking with your food based mind. Once you start to get into the habit of understanding a proper meal, things like sugars and breads wont even be on the top of your list. Take time to contemplate what your weighing out here - There's more to life than sugars and carbs.
  14. @@vsgjess If you don't mind me asking, what was your starting BMI?
  15. I went to my first orientation yesterday and couldn't shake off how rude some people were in the class. 1. One woman was upset when she walked into the classroom too early and the director said to wait outside and that they weren't ready. She threw a hissy fit while walking away. - Even though your orientation is the first class of the day. Be polite and wait for the instructor to open the door. Besides, the directions from our registration forms said to wait for someone to open the door for us. (proper etiquette) 2. One woman was upset that her "support" wasn't able to sit at the table with her during the orientation. Support was told to sit in the back while the attendees sat in the front with binders provided. - I can see the purpose of this. TO NOT DISTRACT YOU! Yes they are support. Why are they there if they're not sitting with you? They're there to see first hand what your are being taught at the same time. To help understand. To help support YOU. 3. During break we were allowed to snack on whatever we brought and all the wanna be "popular/rude girls" just made fun of almost everyone - Do not mock or make fun of what people bring. So what if someone brought a chipotle burrito, vienna sausages, or anything "surprising" to you. It's plane disgusting to make fun of someone else for their situation when your at the same class as them trying to fix yourselves. 4. Put your phone away. - Just like the movies, a cell phone from two rows away are just as annoying as seeing it a fully lite class of people that want to make lifestyle changes. 5. DO NOT TAKE PICTURES IN CLASS - If youhaven't heard of HIPAA you probably should want to know what it's all about by now. Taking pictures during class violates HIPAA regulations and will get you kicked out of the class. Common, protect patient privacy... not just you... everyone else around you... that doesn't wanna be in your stupid facebook updates. 6. Do not take over the course - Don't publicly argue with the instructor because something is against your personal lifestyle, such as eating fat free salad dressing.
  16. I've seen some cases where people did not have to lose weight preop, is there a purpose to that? Some where over 40 bmi .
  17. I got the phone call today from the Bariatrics department!! I will be going to the four hour orientation the day after tomorrow!!

We had our initial weigh in yesterday and was asked to give our availability for upcoming appointments. My next appointment will be with the surgeon next Tuesday for our first 1:1. I believe that's when we'll go over my chart and he'll see if I'm a fit candidate for the surgery itself. Good luck and ask questions. The group that I went with wasn't very friendly so if you need to ask questions that you'd rather not be taunted about ask during break.

Well I am sorry that they aren't that friendly. Hopefully it will be difference experience up here. I am not afraid of asking questions and I don't have a filter if someone is saying something about me.. That might get me into trouble lol

  18. I got the call!!! I will be starting this Thursday at Richmond!!!
  19. I'm trying to be patient - act like I'm not in a hurry to look at my phone for miss calls or voice messages. It's been five days since my PCP messaged me and said that he sent in a referral to bariatrics. But I feel like the days are going tremendously slower and now I'm starting to worry that perhaps they won't allow me into the program for some illogical reason. Hashtag worry wart.

    My story is new gossip:(

That's kinda close to the "H" word, harassment. Tell her that and that'll shut her up. You don't have to justify what you did. You know you made this decision for your health by yourself. The audacity for her to say, "if you wanted it a secret you shouldn't have told her!" shows true character. As a stranger to you and your sister in law... I know that discussing that topic is a personal and intimate topic... I'd never tell another of someone else lifestyle choices... even if it wasn't a secret. Not her place to tell anyone.

    Losing Friends :(

Are you sure you were friends in the first place or just close in associations because you worked together? Answering that question may be able to help you grieve over a lost miss represented "relationship." I've always kept it in the back of my mind that the people that I work with are colleagues, nothing more and nothing less. You made the decision to better your health and life, obviously she isn't being positive or motivating. You're not benefiting from her professional or personally... keep it professional from here on out. The more personal it gets the more the struggle.

    Should I?

For the last year I've seen my mom go through the stages of WLS courses and doctors appointments. I've even attended a few of her appointments to show support and I've heard a lot about the different types of surgery. I've always known from a young age that my body wasn't the same as all the other girls around me. I've done all the diets, gyms, drinks, pills, food controls that I could possibly think of... but what hit me the most was BuzzFeed's "How you really lose weight" marshmallow analogy (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qjw8gPhT7E8). No matter what I do the possibility of ballooning up can and will happen no matter how much I lose on my own. I realized that I needed some type of strong mechanism to help me realize that I'm full when I am full and not over indulge. Trust me, if you've done all that you said you've done without promising results. This may be the step that'll benefit your life entirely.
