It really takes alot of nerve to feel you know what is best for someone else! Wow.....I would have wanted to walk out and go elsewhere. The other thing that gets me riled up is when people assume we haven't researched or thought long and hard about the decision to have bariatric surgery.
I have on the other hand been pleasantly surprised this week that I told someone I had previously said I wouldn't tell because I thought she would be judgmental and she couldn't have been nicer about it!

When I went for my sleep study the chicken doing the test said those type of comments to me. I don't think they intend it to be as offensive as it is. They are just clueless that it is. I really think they think they are being nice. It really is none of anyone's business what our reasons are they don't have to live in my skin or know my health/family history.

mlmanney got a reaction from ncturtle in Any Military Sleevers?
Hi everyone. I am a AF veteran and a spouse of a (AF)military retiree. I am in the Bariatrics program at Camp Pendelton. I live about an hour away but tricare sent me there. I don't live near an active base and my pcm is a small private
Dr office. I addressed my weight concerns at my yearly physical (my first with this new Dr. as my hubby only retired about 18 mo.(at that time). I braced myself for the negative comments I had experienced in the past from military Drs. you know the drill.....eat less....exercise more....with the looks of pity. I have definitely had a few "winners". now I admit I am sensitive about the weight issues so some of these things could have been how I perceived them. When I had my physical this past January I carefully broached the subject with my new PCM and he asked me if I had ever thought of surgical options. well.....yeah! of course I had but I honestly didn't know enough about it to make an informed decision. That is what I had told him and I was so grateful that he said he would be happy to start the process for me to get a referral to speak with someone so that I could learn more. He said it in no different way than if I had asked him for a referral to see the dermatologist. I so love him for that! He sent my referral request to the insurance company for me to see a specific Dr that he likes to send his patients to. When the paperwork came it was for Camp Pendleton...an hour away.....I was very upset that I would have to go that far. (later I realized it was a blessing in disguise). The date came for the the info session and the one on one consultations. when I was called into the consultation, the surgeon matter a factly, having reviewed my paperwork and medical history, stated that based on #s I needed to lose 10 lbs and that VSG was the best option for me and that my surgery would be in 6 mo.....any questions?! I was so ready to justify why I felt I needed it and what my medical history was. I thought I would have to convince him I needed it and wait for insurance approval. I walked out stunned and happy. I am about half way thru the process and reading and educating myself as much as possible.

BTW, until you are sure what you like, I would buy my fish at the meat counter at the grocery store. You can buy it in very small quantities (like one or two fillets of tilapia, 6oz of salmon, etc.). Once you find a few fish varieties you like, then you can buy them in quantity at places like costco or sams club.

Yessss!!! I can't believe I'm sick of this "full liquid" phase already and I've got another 10 days before the soft stuff. I've never craved a scrambled egg more! Other than the gas, I feel surprisingly good! I've got some bruising on my stomach and my tummy muscles are sore, but mostly I feel fine. Walking feels good and I've switched from the laxative the doc gave me to just adding some Fiber powder to my pureed Soup which seems to be working with all the walking. I'm going back to work tomorrow for just 4 hours a day, so we'll see how it goes! How are you feeling? Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk

My surgery was Tuesday and so far so good. Should be discharged today around noon. Jello has been my favorite so far but other than learning to go really slow, no problems keeping it down.

I know.....I think my surgery is actually scheduled for 7:30am. But they told me to check in at 6am. It wasn't too bad on regular preop diet...but this clear liquids only made me really irritable. I Could Still Get Pushed Back If they have an urgent case......keep your fingers crossed for me! Next we will be stressing on getting in enough water!

So I had a big day yesterday...I went to see the surgeon yesterday and looks like the ball is rolling.....I'm on track for Monday surgery. I have appointments for preop and radiology over the next 2 days. After Thursday I am done and waiting for Monday. I will just have to get my stuff at home in order so I don't come home to a mess. I will most likely be having my gallbladder out (having an ultrasound on Thursday). My doc has me staying in the hospital until Wednesday. Oddly enough he has me staying in ICU the first night then off to a regular room for the next day. Not really sure why he feels the need for the ICU but ok....I'll do what ever he wants...it's not gonna hurt me. I'm nervous/excited/frazzled......you name it I think I feel it all at once!

I'm Michelle and.....I got my date today!! I am on a roller coaster of emotions! I will be sleeved on 9/21/15. I start my 2 week pre op diet on monday 9/7. I would love to have more people who are getting sleeved on that day to join me so we can support each other and share or experiences. I started my journey in 2/15 and have felt like I have been in limbo for the past 7 months and it is now finally coming up on "my turn". I have read these boards, had my ups and downs and now all the effort is paying off!

We can all DO IT. My surgery is tomorrow and I'm getting just a little nervous about the pain during recovery. The pre-op diet has been tough - very lightheaded and grouchy. All I want to do is watch TV but then all those food COMMERCIALS!!!! I had a really bad headache for the first 3 days but then it was OK. it really DOES help to drink a lot of Water, even though I've gone through soooo many rolls of toilet paper!

I believe the OP meant people lose 5-10 percent body weight with the medication her doctor prescribed, not WLS.

@@Jefferyc79 Absoulutly we all can support each other in this journey! I have found this process to be very emotional and harder than I thought it was when I first started. Now that I am in the pre op diet stage and the surgery will be here before I know it.....IT JUST GOT REAL! My story is that I have 2 of my siblings who have had strokes and family history of heart disease. Besides all of my own co morbities......I can't want to be next! I need to take control of my life. I know I was going to do the surgery since my info session. I have seen the devastation of my family members taking care of the two who had the strokes and how it has totally changed their lives. I will not let this happen to my husband and children if I can help it! So this is my reasons.....We all have one or a thousand......we all came to this conclusion that surgery is what we need to help us live longer and healthier, this is just my story.
