Nyelaah reacted to mclorrie in Psych Evaluation on Monday
I was a little nervous for my psych appointments too! I was required to have two appointments by my surgeon. My first appt. he asked about my past - was there any physical abuse as a child, or did I ever abuse drugs or alcohol? He also wanted to make sure that I have good support at home. It wasn't bad at all!
My second appt. went very well! He told me that I'm right on track with everything I'm supposed to be doing for surgery, and told me that he was going to write his letter giving me clearance for surgery!
Hope this eases your mind! And good luck!

expect to speak with a very nice Dr who wants to make sure you want this for the right reasons, and that you have lots of support when it's all said and done. Oh, and some written tests, too. Be honest on those.

Life is pretty normal. I just follow the rules. I do what I did to lose. I have to watch what I eat, and I track it on my fitness pal. I don't think I had a drink on new years eve, but only because I didn't go anywhere. I have an occasional drink, and it doesn't make me drunk like they say. If I go to a party, I'll allow myself to eat what there is. I don't stress about it too much. I loosen up a little on the weekends, and decrease calories through the week to accommodate that. I can eat what I think most people would see as a small normal portion. When there is an abundance of different foods, I'll have a bite or two of them all. I've learned a taste is good enough.
I can eat all types of food, and nothing makes me sick. I still drink a Protein shake every day for breakfast, and have a small salad with chicken for lunch, and then Protein for dinner with vegetables. I have to work hard not graze, but sometimes I do. I try to make sure it's protein when I do. I tend to eat more calories after work than I do all day. Maybe not the best plan in theory, but it's working for me. I think that's the message - figure out how to succeed, and then do that!
Basically, I suspect it is no different for me than it is for my thin friends - I watch what I eat to maintain my weight. Good luck to you.

I am a sleever that is now 6 weeks out and doing great. I made a decision early on to tell any who ASKED...about my surgery...and believe it or not it was the right decision...100%. I went into the operation without guilt or even fear. It's been said that "1 lie leads to 100" to keep that lie going. It actual had people asking questions curious about the operation...as well as I found 3 other friends that also had or were having the operation. Did I announce it on Facebook? Is it the first thing out of my mouth in a conversation.....no! Simply if asked I tell the truth. People say why? I say..."oh I wanted to live" . Weight loss surgery is nothing to be ashamed of. I had very slow support from my wife...spouses have a worse time with this...but after the weight started coming off (40lbs in 6 weeks). My wife is now on board 100%

I justgot my results too! I have sleep apnea. They said I stopped breathing on average 7.2 time an hr at most 13 times an hour. This diagnosis just made me feel so horrible. I was recently diagnosed with diabetes and high blood pressure. So I just feel like my whoke health world is crumbling.....
I am so nervous of wearing any machine because I am already so sensitive when sleeping... :-(

Nyelaah reacted to lele109 in What was the hardest part of your decision?
I am still in the pre op phase..but honestly it has all been hard, waiting for all the different appts, the money I have put out so far, (and so much more to go) other's opinion ' s , hearing people tell me I am not big enough to need surgery, the thoughts of loose skin, Hair loss, relationship challenges, ALL of it is HARD. But that's why I am here to get the support that I need to get through it all and so far it has been a huge blessing. I hope you find support and comfort within the community as I have.

Nyelaah reacted to cockapoomom in Pre-Op Liquid Diet -- SO hungry!
I have just completed day 2, only twelve more to go. I too was very hungry today, more so than yesterday. The broths fill me up most and I've been drinking Water consistently through out the day.
The Popsicles definitely help and I just made a big bowl of Jello to set overnight for snack impulses.
I have a great boyfriend who is not getting sleeved but doing the liquid thing with me, slightly modified to include fruits, so I do not have to agonize over watching him indulge in solid food.
I was saying to myself, I'm so hungry even broccoli or cabbage would help, but my surgeon has me on strict liquid only.
Anyhow, best of luck to all. I'm down 3 lbs since 2 nights ago and looking forward to the scale's final result on surgery day which is the 16th.

It's very hard! And you will actually feel like you're starving for the first 3 days or so. Get all different kinds of sugar free jellos and Popsicles. Those help! And the shakes curbed my appetite a lot too. I had to stay busy doing whatever I could to keep my mind off of food. I went to bed early every night. I took some pictures of myself naked and looked at them every time I felt I was gonna cheat. :/ TMI but it helps!! I felt angry and down the whole time and that is normal. The 2nd week is a downhill slide with much more ease! I'm 14 hours away from being sleeved! And I thought I'd never make it! You can do it!

Hi there - the first few months are the most intense (and also exciting) time of this journey. There's so much to figure out and plan for. There's lots of great info in the pre-op section of these boards. Please feel free to PM me with any specific questions. I'm 8 1/2 months out, so my memory about all the pre-op questions/concerns is starting to fade, but I can tell you it is all SO worth it!!

Just wanted to thank those who came out yesterday. It was a very good meeting...it always is when you get to meet virtual pals face to face.
I'm going to start working on the clothing exchange and will post here first and then in the clothing exchange area if more people need to be reached.
As we discussed, since many folks take mass transit in our group, it makes more sense to post pictures with short descriptions including size obviously. Let's start that way and see how successful we are. I'll be posting some pictures shortly of some 'better' items I have that I just can't bring myself to simply give away to Goodwill. I'd much prefer if someone on BariatricPal gets first dibs. Stay tuned!

Nyelaah got a reaction from FibroDiva in Newbie and travel question after surgery
    Hi everyone!
I am new to this whole process and sooooo happy I found this forum. I want to hear about where other newbies are at with their process to surgery. Here is mine...
I went to the bariatric seminar on Jan 13 (it is mandated by the center I am having surgery in)
February 10-my first appt with the nurse practictioner to go over details and to determine if I am eligible
    February 15-sleep Apnea test
    February 27-Endoscopy
    March 6- Psyc eval
Then doing the weight lost management March 10 and April 7. This covers my 3 months mandated weight lost management by my insurance.
The financial coordinator said it will take about 2 mths so I could be cleared as soon as June/July 2015.
I feel like everything is going by really fast and that I do not have as many restrictions or tests to get done as I have been reading on this site. So far so good...
OH I do have a question.... I am going to a wedding in the caribbean in September 2015. I am concerned about having surgery in June/July then going away in September. Do you think I should wait until September to do the surgery or will I be fine if I have surgery in July and go away in September.
