  1. Post op has been great for me. I seem to have taken to the surgery very well. I did not have a lot of pain. The worst thing after surgery was the gas pain, but gas-X dissolving strips helped immensely. Get up and start moving around as soon as you can after surgery. That helped a lot too.
  2. Hi Dylan! I had my surgery with Dr. Rodriguez on July 4th. It was one of the best things I have ever done in my life! The ladies at BeLite Weight are great. The doctors, nurses, and staff at Star Medica are even better. I've never had such an amazing hospital experience. Is anyone going with you? My mom came with me. There was a place for her to sleep in my room. It was good to have her with me for company and to help me with adjusting my pillows and stuff. Let me know if you have any questions! -Janet

What are some of your NSV

Often I'll sit in the bath until all the water is drained out. I used to get up and a bunch of water would come rushing out from behind me because my body had been so big that I blocked it from draining. The first time that I got up and there was no more water I almost cried.
  5. I feel that if you are going to trust your doctor enough to cut you open and remove a portion of your stomach, you should also trust that he knows what you should eat.
  6. I've been having a hell of a time getting all my water in! I'm pretty sure I haven't even been getting half of what I'm supposed to get. My surgeon recommends 2 litres. So I saw something on facebook that I thought would help me. See the picture below! Has anyone tried this? Does it work?

    Puréed Food Stage

I am finished my full liquid stage on Saturday. My instructions say the next stage is soft food as opposed to pureed food. But it does say to chew everything until it is a pureed consistency in your mouth. Then it says: Soft Foods Include: Protein Foods: Canned tuna, salmon, crabmeat (well picked); canned chicken or turkey, or very thinly sliced chicken/turkey deli meat; peanut butter; tofu or other soy based meats; liver, cooked Beans, low fat cheese, eggs. Vegetables: Vegetables must be soft, well steamed or boiled. Good choices are: carrots, beets, mushrooms, spinach, squash, green beans, asparagus, broccoli, cauliflower, onions Fruits: Fruits must be soft, peeled and cored and non-citrus. Good choices are: apples, peaches, pears, bananas, and cantaloupe Starches: AVOID all starches including: rice, potatoes, bread, corn, crackers Fats: Limit the amounts of the following: Small amounts of margarine, olive oil, or cooking spray (Pam); low fat mayo or salad dressing. Avoid GREASY, FRIED FOODS

    Travel Home from Mexico

Going east it's later rather than earlier (ie. 6:30 pm in Jacksonville is actually only 3:30pm in San Diego). So that's 12 hours - 3 hours + 1 hour ends up being 10 hours instead of 16. Not quite as bad. I left El Paso at 1 pm, had 3 flights and the last flight landed in northern Ontario at midnight. Then I also had a long ride home, 1 and a half hours. It was fine.

    NSV shout outs

Before surgery my blood sugars were out of control. I had to take a lot of long acting insulin every night, and quick acting before every meal. I didn't know what to do anymore! I had my surgery on July 4th. I haven't taken any insulin, or even any pills for my diabetes, since before surgery and my sugars are right smack dab in the middle of normal. They may go up when I start eating more (but not even apple juice has made them increase!), but I am just so happy about where they are right now!
  10. I went with the very top of a healthy BMI as well. But once I get there, if I still want to go lower I will.
  11. I'm feeling so good! The hospital staff at Star Medica in Juarez was amazing! I do have a bit of gas pain but Gas X strips and walking are helping a lot! This morning I was down 21 lbs since I started my pre-op diet 17 days ago.

    Sleeved yesterday

I had my sleeve done yesterday in Juarez, Mexico by Dr. Rodriguez. I was back in my room just after 2 pm. I am amazed at how good I am feeling. The only real pain I have is a bit of gas pain, which is mostly being controlled by GasX and walking. I am so happy and ready for the next chapter of this journey and my life.
