  1. We all started as food addicts or we wouldn't have needed WLS. Some adjust to the radical change more easily than others. Iclemur came here with her struggles and though we don't need to coddle her, or say "poor you", we can offer support and suggestions in a way that doesn't make her feel guilty for having those feelings.

    Feeling disappointed

You won't feel satiated until you go back to solids. Purees and liquids don't give you the same feeling of fullness. Hang in there. It does get better and you will be successful!
  3. My surgeon told me to stay around 1200 calories per day until the maintenance stage and then I will be at 1600 calories. He did a calculation with my metabolic rate and gave me that information. I don't know any more details.

    Sleeve and hypothyroidism

I was hoping to read replies and get answers as well. I am 12 days post- op and take medicine for hypothyroidism. I am currently on 50mg of Levoxyl. Hoping someone with experience replies

    Pizza ughhhh

My class had pizza last Friday for our Valentine's party. I had promised them pizza before I got my surgery date and I couldn't go back on it. I was only ten days post- op and in the full liquid stage. It was pure torture. Think of how fabulous you're going to look after your surgery and then tell yourself something nasty happened to that pizza lol.

    Recovery period experience?

I had my surgery on a Wednesday and went back to work the following Monday. I am a teacher so I was bending, reaching, walking a lot, etc. I truly believe it helped me because I feel great! I was very tired the first day but after that I felt the normal amount of tiredness. I also think working took my mind off things because I tend to worry and at home I probably would have over analyzed every twinge or pain.

Ate/ drank too much 5 days post op? Help!

Glad you're feeling better. I was placed on full liquids on day three after surgery so I guess my doctor, like yours, transitions sooner than some. Wonder why the difference?

    Pain Ranking: C-Section vs. Sleeve

I have mixed remarks. Immediately post- op I had a much harder time after my VSG than I did either of my c- sections. I hurt more in my abdomen, had a horrific headache, and was so nauseous. By about four days out from my VSG I was having less pain than I was at that point in my c- section recoveries. To add a little humor I'll tell you my experience at the hospital. I was joking before surgery that at least last time I had surgery I got to take a baby home. Well wouldn't you know I got stuck on the floor in a room on the post partum unit (where women who just had their c- section babies go to recover). So I heard babies crying all day and all night. I was amazed at the irony! The good thing is I adore babies so it was all good

    1 week post op

I was sleeved a week ago yesterday and like you I am ready for this full liquid diet to end!

How long was your hospital stay?

I stayed two days in the hospital.

    Time off work?

I am an elementary teacher and I was sleeved last Wednesday and went back to work this Monday. I have no regrets. It has forced me to move around and stay busy and I feel great. I'm so glad I didn't take off more time as an educator you know we don't get many days! One of my closest friends, also a teacher, is getting her sleeve on 3/13, the Friday before spring break.
  14. I was sleeved on 2/4 and like you I had nausea and a horrible headache, much worse than the pain of the surgery. In the hospital they thought it was the morphine so we stopped that but it continued. It took three days for it to go away. A few people since have mentioned it may have been caused by the anesthesia and I think that sounds plausible. I do get headaches from artificial sweeteners so I am drinking regular Gatorade diluted with Water, suggested by my doctor's office. It has helped me feel so much better. Hope you feel better soon!
