Gr33ni3 reacted to glitter eyes in Do you feel you still have to obsess about food?
I think everyone is very different. For me post surgery my relationship with food has changed. It also has gone through several stages.
In the immediate post op I was "obsessed" with food in the sense that I had to learn to eat again. I had to figure out what worked for me, learn to eat slower and chew my food more throughly. I also was very focused on trying to stay hydrated. However, the hunger was completely gone for me so food did not hold any appeal. I never felt anxious about food even when eating out, I just learned to adapt what worked for me to my current situation. I also never expected my family to eat as I did. I am the one who had surgery not them.
As I began to progress and the weight came off, I still stayed focused on my food because I was very diligent about getting my Protein in for each day. For me about month six my hunger returned but it was not the insatiable monster it was pre op. My hunger for the first time felt normal. I was hungry and my body needed fuel.
I am in maintenance now and have been for about 10 months. I can eat more now and sometimes I am even tempted (enjoy those first few months). However, my relationship with food is what I consider fairly normal. I even indulge in my cravings and treat myself occasionally. I still watch my food closely in order to make sure I am getting the calories, carbs, protein and nutrients to maintain my weight.
One thing I have realized is that this is a tool and even though my obesity is in "remission", I will never be cured. It will be a lifestyle change forever in order to maintain. I will always be a bariatric patient who needs to be careful of hydration status and nutritional status. I have learned if I fill up with junk, then I can't give my body what it needs to be healthy.... So I guess my answer is that I still obsess, but to me it's in a good way and I am super happy!!
One thing that I feel helped me was I did track faithfully during my losing stage and for about the first five months during my maintenance stage. The tracking was so valuable in that it allowed me to see trends and what calorie and carb intake worked best for me. Therefore I knew exactly what my targets were for losing and what they are for maintaining. At 20 months post op I usually just track a few times a week to make sure my protein counts are working target.
    Good luck to you!!

I am 5 days away from the big day and I still smoke buds but the doc said after not to because the smoke can possibly irritate the new sleeve and then the coughing won't feel so good either. So I have been doing my own research and have learned that vaping would not cause smoke irritation or coughing. I will be testing this theory and let you know my experience. Also to the haters, Marijuana is not a drug, it is an herb from the earth and has been used medicinally for centuries so don't go rolling it into the bad category's before you know your facts. I quit smoking cigarettes 3 yrs ago cold turkey! It wasn't too hard even though I used to smoke a pack every 2 days for the past 25 yrs. be strong to those are and trust me you will thank yourself later and breathe better too! ????

I took a week off from my job. I was still in some pain when I went back but it soon went away. I am one month out and have lost 44 lbs so far. In my book it was so worth it.

Many think Bio oil is great. However, I have found that Palmers oil works better and penetrates instead of laying on the skin.

I was 26 when I had mind done and I carried most my weight in my stomach! I was 296 pounds when I had my surgery! As soon as I was cleared for work outs I stared core workouts because I was told that if you build up the muscle the skin attaches to it! I also started as soon as my wounds were healed palmers with extra elastin on my stomach twice a day! I have lost 120 pounds and I do have a little skin but my doctor assures me that if I keep working it will get there! The one other thing I have done is the It works body wraps! It has helps detoxify my skin and snaps back faster! I am very happy with all my results and my stomach which I never thought I would ever say!

I am 2 wks out as of tomorrow from surgery and feeling good my energy level is rising. But I know this thread is not for that lol so what you have been wondering. So my sister flew out to help me for my first wk and she brought me a vape pen indica and the after surgery when I got home I smoked it and it honestly helped my pain more than the Percocet I was prescribed. I am still smoking my regular bud and seems I'm doing fine. I smoked the pen thru my first wk and had my post follow up last Wednesday and lost 33 lbs since surgery day but I think it's since the beginning of the 2 wk liquid diet. Any how I weighed myself on the scale at work today and another 18 lbs down! I can't wait for the holidays to see what I look like this is exciting!!

I started my 2 week liquid diet on May 27 and that took me all the way up to surgery day 6/10,...I am five days out now and so far I think I'm doing very well. When I woke up in recovery there was pain of course, but I think the pain I don't know I think it was more or so the gas pain that I felt than the initial surgery pain. I was not hungry and it's really weird now it's like I don't feel that hunger anymore like I just I want to eat eat eat but now I don't. I think the gas is all gone now and I am still burping like I have gas but that's not necessarily the gas from the surgery it's more as the nurse practitioner told me today that would be from the food because I'm eating food now I am not on a clear liquid diet. Which is strange because all the reading and learning that I did all my education had said that I would be on a clear liquid diet after the surgery and I'm not now they have me eating mushy foods like scrambled eggs , fish, low fat cottage cheese, plain yogurt, and broth. And I am full after like 3 small spoons like 3 tsps. And drink drink drink your Water. Good luck to you all.

I finally finished one whole egg today for Breakfast. Surgery was one week ago today I was able to eat the day after what the hospital gave me and I've been on a mushy diet since surgery. Tomorrow's breakfast will be two eggs because the sample menu says on the seven I should be eating two eggs but I barely got 1 today. Don't know how much I weigh yet, as I go today for my one week post op follow up today so I will post later what my results are and keep in mind that I had done two weeks liquid diet that led up to surgery day.

Gas x strips are my best friend! And like everyone says, walk, walk ,walk! I'm six days out and sleeping with a bean bag pillow on my tummy and I'm a little more comfortable. Hang on, it starts getting better every day.

You'll do great Roseluv3, it's a small price to pay for a better life, it'll also make it that much easier to tolerate your post op diet, hydration is a great ally, or your enemy if you ignore it, learn to sip, not later but now, sip sip sip

Sorry, I haven't smoked weed since WLS.
Marijuana makes me ravenously hungry. I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon. (I'm 7 months post-op.)
However, I do drink wine now. Happily, it doesn't give me the munchies.
Best to you. Hope you do get some responses from folks who have tried it post-op and learn how it affected them.

Please be kind to each other on this site - aren't all of us trying to stay positive about perhaps the hardest things we have ever done? I know I am. I come to this site for inspiration and answers - not to read others being negative about others' choices. Be respectful please. You don't have to agree with what others do, but no need to hate. This is hard enough.

I have to agree, once a week is not frequent, funny thing is that I have not smoked for the last month because is something that I can stop at free will. To me an addiction is something you can't willingly stop on your own, such as tobacco users who can smoke up to a pack a day. I have recently stopped just because I don't need it, just like I don't need wine - While several months ago, I was having wine every week, I now have wine maybe once every three months, but with Marijuana being so widely used and now being legalized in several states, I was just curious. I am sure everyone has their own perception, and I have agreed for myself that smoking marijuana would not be best for me after surgery, but I would welcome open minded perspectives to this subject on those that have used it and what was the experience.

I would hardly call once a week an addiction? So someone who has a glass of wine or a beer once a week is addicted? Your ignorance and prejudice about Marijuana is showing....
