jumpingin reacted to soubifan700 in 10 days before surgery - having anxiety and doubts, help!
@2NewBeginningsxoxo- I can completely relate to your worries. I had my sleeve surgery on 1/14/15 (so not too long ago 21 days ago).
The overall surgery went really well, but it was the gas that killed me. It hurt really bad so don't be afraid to let the nurses know that you want a gas pill! They gave me one that dissolved and oddly enough it made me throw up and I felt a ton better. I had a really hard time getting down liquids and spit up a lot after surgery. I ended up having a hiatal hernia so the opening of my esophagus and stomach was much tighter and swollen then normal (so it may be a breeze for you:).
I ended up staying in the hospital for 5 days before I could go home. Walking helps a lot, so bring some nice slippers! Some good things to bring to your surgery is slippers, your own pillow, and chap-stick!
When I got home, I found I didn't tolerate milk so I had to get liquid Protein (New Whey) and Protein that mixed well with Water and juice. I would highly recommend powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury strawberry sorbet (it tastes great with crystal light lemonade and orange). While I still can't eat much of anything, yet I have been finally feeling much better after getting over that horrible hump of the first 2 weeks.
Everyone is different and you could have some or none of the problems that come with the surgery. I regretted it at first when I was having a hard time and at times I still do, but it is getting better. The hardest part is your mind more so then your stomach. My mind sees food still and wants to eat but my body has no desire for it. Time and healing helps and I sincerely hope your journey goes great! While I'm not a veteran yet, please feel free to ask my any questions you have about the surgery and hospital stay.
    Good Luck!

I guess everyone's different. I'm 3 days out and can, literally, drink anything. Yesterday (my first full day home), for example, I drank 78oz, including a Protein Drink. I do have some gas, nothing I can't live with. My doc said drink as much as you want since liquid doesn't stretch the sleeve. I've already consumed 44oz today and it's only passed noon! Good luck to you as you head towards you goal!!!

When you say two ounces at a time, are you drinking two ounces at once? You should be taking small 1/8 oz sips. I had quite a bit of pain and could feel every little sip, but just kept drinking tiny sips. I started out taking about 10 minutes to drink 1 oz on day 1. By the end of day 2, I could drink 1 oz in about 2 minutes. If you feel pain/pressure, it sounds like you are trying to drink too much too fast. My doctor also said don't worry about Protein the first couple days - get the fluids in. My guide actually has a table saying Day 1 after surgery - 40 oz Fluid, 10 grams Protein. Day 2 50 oz Fluid, 20 grams protein. Building up to 80 grams after a week. The Protein shakes did not sit well with me at all right after surgery. Apple juice, room temp Water, and strained egg drop Soup sat best for me.
Days 2-5 were pretty tough for me. I'm now at day 8 and feeling great - it will get better.

I'm not having any problems drinking anything! People are so different. Yesterday, my 1st full day home, I drank 80oz of liquid, including 48mg of Protein powder. I'm definitely gonna get that much in today...probably more! My doc told me to drink as much as I can tolerate because liquids won't stretch the stomach. Thank God for that. Good luck to you!

I can drink a Protein Shake in less than an hour and am having no trouble getting my liquids in every day. I am 6 days post op and really have no complaints! I really don't feel any restriction yet. I am walking about 2 miles a day. I have absolutely no regrets!

@@JackieBrown - you are experiencing a one month + stall
    (sorry about that )
    @@JackieBrown @ @fat_free @@ualaw08 @@LipstickLady @@queensleever05 @@robga999
frequently when you are stalled, even though your weight doesn't go down
    your measurements do go down!!!
thats why its so important to keep track of your measurements
    (especially during stalls)
sizes going down is great, the weight will go down too
    trust me
    would i lie to you??
maybe for "right now" don't step on the "devil so often"
that way you won't see if your # has changed or not
    keep up the good work
    you are all doing great
    good luck ladies

If you got blue cross and your surgeon offers the nasal B12 once a week, the blues may pay for it. It is called Nascobal Home Delivery. They send you a package of the nasal spray, Calcium, multi and Iron.

So I'm 5 weeks post op as of tomorrow, Monday January 26th. Everything has gone so smoothly and I've been on solid foods for about 5 days and all has been wonderful. The first few days were brutal and the 3 weeks on a liquid diet was tough but worth it. I'm down 24 pounds and seem to be a little stuck there but I'm hoping with my increase in activity it won't last long! I would recommend this surgery to anyone struggling! If anyone has any questions as they enter their own journey, I'd love to answer them to the extent that I know and based on my personal experience! Good luck to all!
