jillstl got a reaction from ~Pam~64~ in Am I selfish for doing this?
I am 41 years old. BMI of 49 and a weight loss failure. I have lost over a hundred pounds three times in my life and gained it back plus more through various diets. I always considered myself in fairly good health for being as large as I was... That is up until 2 years ago, when my joints started hurting terribly. Lower back pain, hip pain, shoulder pain... weak ankles and plantar fasciitis. I have been getting cortisone shots for almost 2 years. My husband is not supportive of weight loss surgery.. he thinks it's weak. Anyone else without a support system?

Okay...I find myself looking for similar body types to mine so I can see how you look. Pear shaped. I don't remember what I look like thinner. Anyone carry all of their weight in their hips and thighs...huge thighs.

Is there anyone out there that carries their weight in their hips and thighs and if so what did you do to work that area? Everyone I see seems to have like an apple shape. They have smaller legs and carry their weight around their midsection. That's not me.

If you find something that's giving you results please post it on here I would love to know. And I should be thankful because I think that if I lost enough weight eventually it have to come over there too I shouldn't complain so much.

@@Jill_Icardi I really have nothing to compare it to, so I am not sure if it is less painful with one incision vs 5. All of it is right in my belly button so sitting up can be a bitch..lol My doctor told me I could have a couple bites when I was comfortable. That is all I am doing. I have a couple bites of well chewed cottage cheese or unsweetened apple sauce, but the rest of the time it is shakes, broth, and Jello. I still have some pain, but luckily no more nausea. I hit my first 20lb lost so I am pretty excited!

Hey March Sleevers! Post Op day 4 and I am feeling pretty good. Still a little sore at my incision site. My doctor actually asked me if I wanted to have 5 incisions or 1 that you can hide in your belly button. I went for the belly button incision. Has anyone else had this offered to them? I am doing great keeping down my shakes and Water. I had a couple bites of apple sauce and cottage cheese today. Not too much, want to gradually get back into things. Hope everyone else is doing well!

Hi Maria Elena, my doc has put me on a pre surgery diet. I have to drink Meal Replacement shakes. I'm in the phase where in have a shake for Breakfast, lunch and dinner. I can have 1 to 2 cups of veggies with lunch and dinner. I used to be able to have a snack like a cheese stick or yogurt but now I have to give those up and have a small shake. About 3 days before surgery, I can only have liquids. I'm a little nervous. I'm starting tomorrow. Wish me luck! ???? And good luck to you! ????

Not sure if this is normal but im 3 days in to my preop diet and am not hungry. It's almost as if im becoming afraid of food. I know that this cannot be good if it goes on for an extended period if time but wow...a week ago i was woofin down big macs. So, im convinced its a mind set, not a disease as some are suggesting.

How'd you do? Did you have your surgery?
Kind of sounds like sabotage that my nut talked about!
I'm on for surgery March 18th! I started liquids Tuesday, was supposed to start Wednesday, but wanted to do a sample day just to see how i did. I'm mostly doing ok. Its harder at home.. feeding my kids.. cooking for them.. Hard!
I'm excited. I have some nerves. I want to write letters to my kids (just in case) I know the surgery will go well, but.. i just want them to know how much i love them. I have an 8 year old and a 1.5 year old. Did anyone else do this? Did you tell your kids about the surgery? My 8 year old came with me to two nut appts, so he knows mom is "trying to lose the belly".

This year is for me! This year I am taking care of myself. Today is my birthday and in 3 days I am getting surgery to change my life! This is my birthday gift to myself! We all should be so proud of the choice we have made! Don't let people tear you down or make you feel like you are "taking the easy way out!" Believe in yourself!! I look forward to taking this journey with all of you!

    Maya Angelou said it best:
"People will forget what you said, they will forget what you did.
but they will never forget how you made them feel."
I used to manipulate my husband early in our marriage, just to get him to say what I was feeling in a given moment. Example: Honey, I promise I won't get mad, but be honest...you don't find my weight attractive do you? I know you love me regardless and are attracted to me but you'd find me even sexier thin right? Then if he said yes...I'd say, "I knew my weight bothered you!" Incisions aren't sexy...drains aren't either...but you heal and it's just a little scar. You will feel so much better and look great. You will however, likely remember those words and be more self-assured...then look out husband! This is for you and not him...:-)

Must be even harder for you. I've been fat my whole life except for a two year period. Happy that you are taking this journey with us!
I happen to believe that we overweight, could fill a library with our knowledge of nutrition, exercise and fad diets. Some of us obsess about it. I can't speak to why we all haven't been successful longterm. For me it's an addiction to food. I have to break the bond and reform our relationship and make fitness my lifestyle. So far on my preop diet, I've lost 12 pounds doing Atkins for 14 days. Low carb works for me.
You.probably have a lot of muscle, being an instructor...you'll have great success! What day in March? 23rd here.

Words of wisdom...yes he is uninformed..that is his vantage point. He is just ex military and thinks everyone can be fit if they eat less and exercise. That is true...can't dispute that but some of us need extra tools in order to maintain or be successful.

I'm actually on a preop diet for almost a month now. Not feeling that great today. I've been doing two shakes and then a small meal so I don't think that the liquid diet is going to be that difficult for me. At this point I have absolutely no hunger at all and that worries me a little bit. I don't think you're going to have any problem if you put your mind to it.
