juju79 got a reaction from byebyedarkpassenger in NEW HERE
Hi all, my name is Julia. I've been on here for a little while now and have really enjoyed reading everyone's post. I am writing this from the hospital bed. I was sleeved this afternoon. So far, all is well. I went in at 1 and was in the recovery room around 3. Made it to my room around 5. I have had some pain on my right side but the nurse said that is from the hernia that was repaired while he did the sleeve. The only gas pain I had was when in the recovery, it has gone away since than. I have been getting around pretty good by myself and have even walked the halls a few time. The one thing that has just about drove me crazy is the fact that I can't have any liquids. My mouth is so dry, my throat hurts and I feel like my breath is horrible. I am so excited about this journey and would like wish everyone the best on their journey????
All smiles before the surgery and than coming back from the recovery room
I am 5 "7"
HW 236
SW 215
I had to do a 4 week Optifast
I can't wait to update my weight in a few months ????

juju79 reacted to MadMccrea in New to site. Sleeved in Oct. 2014
Hello,
My name is Madeleine and I am happy I found this site.
In 2014 I finally got good health insurance. One thing I wanted to do was have bariatric surgery since my best friend had it a few years before and it was working very well for her. I went to orientation in March and I found I weighted 437. I knew I weighted a lot, but that was higher than I have ever weighted so I went in the Pre-op diet with some passion. I had a great surgeon, Dr. Im at Kaiser, and he said I needed to get below 400 before he would do the surgery. I went to the classes and worked hard and I got down to 410, but those last 10 pounds were real hard. I think as I got down close the surgery became a real possibility and I panicked. The psychiatrist for the program, Dr. Z., talked to me and helped me realize I really wanted this and I had to get my butt in action. After that it was easy and by the time I went into surgery, Oct. 14, 2014, I was down to 388,
The surgery itself was not bad. I was a bit nervous, but everything worked out ok. My big post surgery issue were my feet. Within the first week my feet were killing me and it was hard to walk. The surgeon said it was likely due to the position of my feet during surgery. It took awhile to go away, but I am now able to take walks. At first, though, I was not sure what exercise to do since I had figured I would do a lot of walking. Finally I used a recumbent bike and that allowed me to exercise without hurting my feet.
I am now 7 months out from surgery, down to 265, and very happy I did this for myself. I am excited to explore this site and get to know other people who are on this journey too.

Ok I got done and back in my room around 11:00 this morning. Had some nausea and vomiting upon waking up but gone now. I've been up and walking twice so far. I feel really good. I wanted to wish everyone belated good luck!!!!
I hope each of you comes out of recovery doing well and comfortable. Not hungry but my mouth feels like cotton due to dryness. No real pain just sore.
Throat rough due to intubation but even that is more nuisance than any real pain. How is everyone else doing?

Well...alot nervous..I.V 's terrify me..not just the needle but the whole process! I have vasel vagal syncope. .the surgeon said I can't have anything to relax me before the IV Cause it can make BP drop. Any suggestions?
I've been thinking about WLS for 13 years..HW 220..5'1".SW 197.
I finally got serious this January after a friend had Gbp. I didn't want everything moved around and less side effects.
Good to meet you all????

juju79 reacted to Bufflehead in Best piece of advice you have! I'm a day away from Gastric Sleeve surgery.
For immediately post-op, the best piece of advice I got was be upright (sitting or standing) and move as much as possible. When they move you into your regular hospital room after the recovery ward, do not let them put you into your bed! Instead, sit upright in the loveseat, easy chair, rocker, whatever they have for you in your room. That makes it easier to get up and down for your walking and trips to the bathroom (unless you have a a catheter you will be making plenty of trips to the bathroom). When you are sitting in your room, you can gently rock your upper body back and forth with your arms crossed over your torso. Sitting, standing, walking, and rocking help get rid of the post-surgical gas and will make you much more comfortable. Lying around in bed will not help you. Don't even get into bed unless you are going to nap or sleep.< /p>
Don't overpack for the hospital. It's surgery, not a cruise. The hospital will have virtually everything you need.
Apps: Myfitnesspal (though I mostly use the website rather than the app) and Eat Slower.
If you find yourself thinking, after three weeks on liquids, or only being able to eat yogurt, or whatever, "I'm bored with this food" -- remember that food is NOT entertainment. Find something else to entertain you and resign yourself to being bored with your food, at least for the immediate future. It isn't the end of the world.
Do whatever you can to not compare yourself to other people. Don't weigh yourself every day if it is going to drive you crazy. It doesn't matter if other people are losing 40 lbs a month (they aren't), are told by their doctor to start eating solid foods 5 days after surgery, have to limit themselves to 8 grams of carbs per day, or are running marathons 6 weeks after surgery. What everyone else is doing and what their results are should be irrelevant to you if you trust your surgeon and his team and are faithfully following the program they laid out for you.

juju79 reacted to sarahbeth3569 in 50 pounds lost- 2 mo postop w/pics
Today I weighed myself and for the first time since surgery, my breath was taken away from what I saw on that scale. Less than 2 months ago (March 3rd) I weighed 270 pounds. Today, I weighed 220 pounds. Im almost to the weight that I weighed the day I married my husband. That's 50 pounds gone forever! I am so grateful for this journey no matter what I had to go through! I don't do pics...but here is my before and after face shots.
