CaPoppy got a reaction from Havasumoma in So where are 30 somethings shopping?
Old Navy, Target, Kohls, H & M and JcPenney mostly. I'm trying to be a bit frugal and not spend a ton because I'm not done losing yet and I want to really define my style now that I have to get everything new. So I'm picky and cheap, lol.

I'm a year and a half post op and sometimes I do have the thought like, "Holy crap, I had my stomach removed! WTF!" But I don't regret it and would totally do it again. I am happier now and healthier. No regrets at all.

CaPoppy got a reaction from Aleathia in Have to stay off Fb, pre-op diet :(
I'm a year and a half post-op and I watch the FB food videos, but I don't crave the foods. Sometimes I do watch and think how easy it would be to adapt that recipe to be healthy and something I could eat. Or I watch and think "Stuff like that is the reason people are fat!"
If it is the same friends posting the videos you could always hide them until you are ready.

It is slightly surprising that there is such a wide range of Dr. orders for pre-op for the same surgery. Even the after surgery orders can vary so widely you'll question your surgeon.
My surgeon orders a 10 day liquid only diet prior to surgery (protein drinks and Clear liquids only) and NPO after midnight the night before.
But definitely listen to YOUR surgeon and do what your programs says.

CaPoppy got a reaction from paestay in Protein, hmmm
All Drs have their own programs. Mine wants us to get in at least 80 grams a day as a female and 100 as a male. The more Protein you get in the faster the weight will drop. Same with Water. The more the better, the weight will drop faster.
Protein also helps in healing and minimizing the effects of post-op Hair loss and other side effects.
I'm over a year out and still losing because I keep up on my protein. It also makes me feel better. If I'm feeling tired I can eat a Protein Bar and be energized.

My "stomach" hurts and I go lay down. Then after a few minutes I am okay again.

Shopping. I've always been a shopper, but now I have to replace every item since the old ones are way too big.
And makeup. Always have been into it, but it's gettin a little out of hand.
    But I look cute.

CaPoppy got a reaction from 165B445 in Anyone not telling anyone about their surgery?
I only told my mom, boss, and two friends (who are married). After I told one other friend because it turns out she had the same surgery with the same surgeon a month earlier. Had no idea until she started posting on FB about it.
I just don't think its anyone's business. If they ask how I've lost weight I just say Portion Control, avoiding sugar/carbs and more Protein. Which is all true. The sleeve doesn't define my weight loss. It was simply a tool that I used.

Of course you will able to eat again at some point. At some point food would be enjoyable otherwise this surgery wouldn't be as popular.
You are only like 3 weeks out. I was still on liquids at that point. I am now 9 months out and can eat whatever I want (if I wanted to), just obviously in smaller quantities that pre-surgery. But the smaller quantities are why I've lost over 100lbs.
You just need to stick with the program. Drink your Protein and keep your eye on the prize. You are in the crappy part. It will get better soon. And in a year you will barely remember it being so bad.

Some sort of chapstick, hand lotion and a extension cord so that you can charge your phone or iPad easier.
I went home 24 hours later, so I didn't need much. The first day I was pretty much sleeping because of pain meds and recovering from surgery. The next morning I got up for the pouch test and then they sent me home. So I didn't have much of a chance to do anything or need occupied.

Drink lots of Water and a few doses of Miralax. It is quite common between surgery and the change in diet to be constipated. It does get better though!

CaPoppy got a reaction from theatrejo in What do I wear POST OP(Wks 1-6)
I was in jeans 2 days after surgery, so everyone is different. But my doctor had me wearing a stomach binder and that helped quite a bit. So my jeans weren't rubbing or constricting at all.

CaPoppy got a reaction from Nikki Monroe in Deciding to keep my sleeve quiet....
I have been very selective in who I've told as well. I just don't think it is anyone's business. The only people in my life that know are my mom and two friends, and one of those friends I've only told because she underwent the same procedure with the same doctor a month prior to me. So it has been helpful to be able to compare with her.
If anyone asks me I just tell them that I've been eating healthy, which is true. If anyone ever comes out and specifically asks if I had surgery I won't lie, but I'm not volunteering that information.
It's totally up to each person who they tell. Some people are happy with telling everyone they know and having a huge support, while there are those of us who would rather be more private and don't necessarily need all their Facebook friends knowing every detail. I think this is why a lot of the vsg instagram accounts are pretty anonymous. They can get the support, without necessarily telling their friends and family.

If you have to go back quickly just take it easy. And rest as soon as you get home.
