I was insulin dependant before my RNY surgery and left the hospital with no meds at all. While I'm very new post op I'm very optimistic about my diabetes remaining in remission. As far as your fears about work...I would much rather return to work than live/die with diabetes any day. Maybe if you changed your outlook and not view things as starting all over, it may help you realize it's actually more of a new beginning. Explore your options, don't let something like fear of returning to work stop you from possibly prolonging your life. I'm sure your family would choose YOU over a retirement check hands down....good luck!

@@RNYGal I'm on day 5 and still have tons of pain on my left side. I switch back and forth between my bed and recliner when I sleep but find sleeping on my side when I'm in bed actually relieves my pain. My Dr. also ordered me a belly binder so I wrap that pretty tight which helps with the pain as well. I'm hoping to be done with this pain soon it doesn't feel like gas anymore, more like somebody stabbing me in my rib cage ???? hope you get some relief soon!

Hello all! I just had RNY on 5/27 and I am doing OK just having a lil more pain than I anticipated. It's mainly on the side where they did most of the work. I'm doing ok with fluids I'm sure I'm not getting in as much as I should but I just try and sip away. I would like to know what you ladies were eating at the puree/soft food stage? My NUT has stuff like tuna salad on toast or crackers, beans, peanut butter, oatmeal etc. Will I be able to tolerate those on day 7. I don't have any issues getting anything down at this point, I just have to move slow because my rib cage hurts whenever I blink lol so my desire to sip/eat is not there. If you all have any tips on what you ate during the beginning stages that would be great! And blessings to all who have upcoming surgeries!!

Good luck! As far as your deductible, you can definitely pull it off. I started the process in January with new insurance and with all my pre op appointments I had met my out of pocket max by April so my surgery was covered at 100%! I just made arrangements on my other outstanding balances and have one very low monthly payment! This was blessing I thought for sure I'd have to pay a fortune for my bypass.

My surgeon ordered me one and I have to wear it for 2 weeks.

Blessings to you all! I've been home most of the day doing well just been sipping as much as I can and walking around my house trying to get this gas moving. I don't have any nausea or any trouble getting fluids down. I don't feel hungry or crave food at all so I have to remind myself to sip otherwise it just slips my mind. I'm really hoping to move past the pain/gas stage so I can move into the weight loss phase cuz to be honest weight is the furthest thing from my mind. Right now I'm focusing on staying hydrated and eliminating this gas. I'm going to start on my protien shakes in a couple of days hopefully I can tolerate the taste because nothing is tasting good these days. I sure hope you all's surgeries go well and we can keep all keep in touch ????

I had RNY surgery on the 27th just got home a few hours ago. I'm doing good other than a little pain and feeling really bloated did anyone feel bloated afterwards if so how long does it last?

@@shonne17 I just had bypass on the 27th at Bailey and I did not pay anything up front. Because of all the pre-op appointments and procedures I had met my deductible and out of pocket max so my surgery was covered at 100%. I just made arrangements to pay the other bills monthly.

Hello all I had surgery on the 27th and am still in the hospital but should be going home today. Dr. Varnell said the surgery went great I'm just having trouble with pain other than that I'm fine. I hope everyone is doing well. @@jade2015 I hope to start going to the support groups once I get to feeling better.

Hello everyone I am still in the hospital but I'm going home today. My surgeon said the surgery went very well I'm just having trouble tolerating the pain. It's mostly on the one side where my big incision is all the others are fine. Once my pain goes down a bit I'll be fine because besides that I don't feel any different, makes me wonder if they really did anything in there lol.

I get to go home today and honestly I think my biggest struggle is going to be pain management. I didn't think it was because I just had a c section 11 months ago, my 4th one and I tolerated that pain very well. Once I get my pain level down I think I can handle it.

Well I had surgery 5/27 and things went well. I'm still in the hospital because I was slow getting fluids in. The biggest issue I have is the gas pain but I've been walking trying to get that out. I'm so glad to have the surgery over with and I'm just ready to be feeling like myself again ????

I don't know about the peer to peer process but I would say please don't give up and hang in there! With all the issue that you have described I don't see how they denied you and I'm sure you'll get the approval after the peer to peer.

Well got the call today letting me know what time to check in tomorrow and 11am it is!! It's a little later than I would've wanted but I'm not going to complain. I also found out I have no out of pocket cost to be paid before my procedure...it will be covered 100%!! I guess with all my pre op stuff I met my max, which I know I have to pay but I've made arrangements on all those balances and have a nice low monthly payment so I couldn't ask for a better outcome ???? This experience has been so smooth and positive and I have to give all thanks to God. I'm ready for my new beginning and can't wait to see what's in store for me in the future!!

I'm pre op but chose the bypass for fear of what you are going through. Those who have had surgery have been an awesome point of reference and I'm sure will give you plenty of advice. My bypass surgery is Wednesday...I was worried in the beginning but I'm sure it will be fine. I wish you the best on your journey!

My surgery is in 3 days any last min tips! I think I have everything together but feel like I'm forgetting something ????

Well glad I'm not the only one! I guess it's better than taking those blood thinner shots I don't think I'd be able to do those. When is your surgery?

Did anyone else have to use a DVT after surgery? I have to wear it 24/7 the first 3 days then whenever I'm sitting for 7 days after that.

I have Aetna and they state no net gain meaning you can not weigh more on your last weigh in than you did on your first weigh in. Weighing the same amount is ok (unless your surgeon has required you to lose a certain amount). Gaining in between these two important weigh in's shouldn't matter so much but your NUT may look at it as you not following your diet plan and decide you need more consults and thus prolong your process (mine would at least). To be safe just be either the same weight or at least 1 pound lighter at your very last weigh in. Some people have posted that they were a pound or two heavier at the last weigh in and still got approved but I wouldn't risk it.

How exciting! I'm on the pre op diet now and it's hard. I'm doing the ready made premier protein shakes and they taste really good to me. The sugar free jello helps as does a nice bowl of warm chicken broth in the evenings. Good luck to you hope you hear good news soon.

Yeah it sounds like one night is pretty standard. I have 7 kids at home and a husband so I don't think I would have mind the extra night haha!

Thanks for responding! I was a little worried for a minute there. I thought 2-3 was standard. I had my 4th c-section 11 months ago and I always stay 5 days. I guess if one day is common than I'm sure it will be fine.
