I have found that most of the foods I have felt deprived from make me sick anyhow. So no, I don't!! I'd rather eat healthy than puke!

I feel the exact same way. I always had empathy for anyone who was obese as my mother and pretty much all in her family suffer from it. But now having been 135 pounds larger I see people suffering with it and my first thought is "OMG that poor thing" as a society I wish obesity was viewed as the true disease it is, and not as a weakness of character or that we are lazy , etc. food is an addiction you can not recover from but rather one you have to master and I feel my long term success is gonna involve a lifetime of respecting food and not making it my best friend again. Love to all of you in our wonderful community. The support I get here is top notch and helps to keep me focused and on the straight and narrow

    Pros:
    I am no longer fat.
I have more energy than I have in decades.
I can do mud runs, zip lines, zumba, ride horses (scared of them, but I could), ride amusement park rides, etc.
    I can shop anywhere.
I am no longer the fattest person in the room.
I can grocery shop without feeling self conscious.
I can fit in theater seats, airplane seats, down aisles without feeling squished or squishing others.
I can eat whatever I want, I rarely WANT junk and when I do, I eat very little.
I am a cheap date. (See above.)
food no longer rules my life.
I could truly go on forever...

When I woke up from surgery, the first thing that came into my mind was "what the heck did I just do?" It gets better. Breathe, take care of YOU, and go along with the process. The first several weeks postop are hard because you are learning to do everything all over again. It will get better.

So excited -- I can't remember how long it's been since I got on the scale and the first number was a 1. Except that one time 5 years ago when it was off balance, but I knew it was a mistake.
And today I did a 30 minute run! First one since I blew my knee out a year ago (on a run...)! I will be ready for that 10-K in 3 months!!!

And surprise! I could begin changing all my other flaws as well and live to tell about it.

Congratulations! You have exactly the same stats as me except I am not sure of your age! When did you have surgery. I am particularly excited to start running again. What was your BMI when you started running after surgery? I feel like I should get down to 210 or so or I might hurt myself.

Our grocery bill is also much smaller, even though we buy better quality foods now. Gone are the days of cooking 4 chicken breasts or steaks... we used to cook enough for one each, with possible seconds or leftovers. Now we really just cook enough for 2, which still leaves leftovers lol!
One of my big savings has been rarely drinking coffee anymore. Those K-cups are stupidly expensive, and I have gone from 14-21 a week to having a cup maybe once or twice a week.

Our grocery bill has gone down tremendously since my surgery. I barely spend $250 a month now (it's just my husband and I).

My refrigerator is a graveyard of leftover meals. Every weekend my husband and I go out for dinner. We are both sleeved! We order no carb and high Protein meals! Over the last eight months we have had leftovers every time. This has been a new experience for us. Sometimes we even split a meal. I can't bear to clean out the refrigerator and waste food. Therefore, it has become my husband's job to discard our take-home boxes! Getting skinny is a family affair.

Regrets happened the moment I awoke from surgery in recovery. I couldn't swallow and became panicked until recovery staff gave me a little Water. The evening after surgery I wondered why I ever thought this was a good idea and then I was forced to get up and start walking - first out of the room and then eventually around the wing. Things improved rapidly thereafter and other than discomfort from the big incision I felt better each day. Now, starting my seventh week post op, I feel wonderful and am eating 4 oz of Protein three times a day. Surgery was the best decision I ever made!

    1. Push that button in the little gadget they give you. You can push it -- I don't remember how often -- but that's where the pain meds come from! Don't be a hero!
    2. Have a pillow in the car for your ride home. You can hug it and the road won't feel as bumpy. I had a 90 minute drive home and wish I had thought to do that. I have driven that road 100s of times, but didn't realize how bumpy it was until I was post-op!!!
    3. Your post-surgery course is your course -- some of us vomit, some don't. I had none. Some get up and walk around. I didn't want to. But it's a personal process, so don't compare yourself to others. Same with your weight loss. Do what your bariatric team tells you to do and you will succeed.
    Good luck!!
