  1. I am very new to this board and I am having my surgery with Dr. Kirshenbaum on Dec. 13, 2007. I have a very high BMI of 62.2 and I am worried about being too big for him to safely band. Has anyone on this board been over 60 BMI and had Dr. Kirshenbaum as your surgeon? Can anyone tell me how he is and what the procedure is as far as the hospital stay, etc.? I would appreciate any feedback.

  3. Thanks so much for all of your advice. I just have to get me head into it as much as my heart is into it.
  4. Hello, my name is Mona and I am new to this board. I will be having the Lap-Band sometime in December, as soon as I decide which doctor to use. I am weighing my options between Dr. Aceves and Dr. Kirshenbaum right now but will be making my final decision within the next week or so. I am really worried about being put under anesthesia because I have heard that with a BMI over 60 it can be really dangerous. Has anyone heard of this or can anyone give me some advise on this? Is it normal to be afraid that you will not wake up? Also, if any of you had a BMI higher than or close to 60 and can give me some support, I would really appreciate it. I haven't any co-morbidities, but I do think I may have sleep apnea and I cannot afford to have a sleep study done before the surgery. I appreciate any advise you can give.
  5. Hello everyone, my name is Mona and I just took out a $10K loan to have the Lap-Band surgery which I so desperately need. I am torn between Dr. Kirshenbaum in Colorado and Dr. Aceves in Mexicali, Mexico. I am really leaning towards Dr. Aceves because of his experience and the fact that I am at 62.2 BMI and he has experience working with people like me whom are EXTREMELY voluptuous! I am planning to visit the facility in Mexicali and meet with the staff and doctor to ask some questions and see if I feel comfortable, thanks to a great board member who has been extremely kind to me. I was wondering if any of you have any advice or experience, good, bad, or indifferent, with either of these doctors. I would appreciate anything that may help in my Quest. By the way, I have enjoyed reading many of the posts on this board. I spend at least 5 hours a day at work just reading the posts but have just now decided to join. Hmmmm, no wonder my work is never done.
