You need to get RID of ALL the BAD CARBS, foods, Snacks from your cabinets... NOW! Go RIGHT NOW and THROW them AWAY!!! Because if they are there, you already know that you'll eat them. Many of us on here are carb addicts or recovering carb addicts. To this day I battle my addiction and that's why you will not find ANY in my house. Because I know that I will submit to my addiction in a moment of weakness. Part of this journey is recovering from our addictions and bad habits, as well as adapting new ones; which include: eating right and exercising, or becoming more active. Eating right...the sleeve gives you Portion Control, but YOU control the QUALITY...you know what to do. Exercising...look at it like a job; we need to work to make a living/we need to exercise to extend our lively hoods and our health.
    You CAN do this!!!!

I did a sleeve from a lap band. Yes you will grieve the loss of food at first. I did. When I told my cousin I needed a support group to help me grieve, she laughed. She did not understand. food was by best friend and I did not even know it. Now I have to find a new friend. However, it has helped me understand a friend of mine who uses the gym as her best friend. I have decided to trade my hoagie for the Elliptical. You will get used to it and actually learn to like the new measure of control, even though achieved secondary to your loss of stomach volume. BTW, your life won't end (I know where you're coming from). You will just develop a different relationship with food, and learn how to use and enjoy it without it becoming a detriment to your health. It's already happening for me and I'm only 4 weeks in.
Blessings and Success on your Journey!

I really appreciate this post, because I was sleeved, 8/30/12, and to date I have lost 58 lbs. I was losing weight so fast at one time, I started to worry. Then I stalled 2 weeks, then loss 3 more lbs., and now I have stalled again. It has been almost 2 months now, and no loss here. And I admit that I wanted to get discouraged one day, and I had to pick myself up, and remind myself that I have lost 58lbs. That is a lot of weight, I don't care what anybody says. I have received so many compliments on my appearance. This past Sunday I wore 5 inch heels to church, and was comfortable. I love the new me, and had to quickly get rid of that sour spirit. God has been so good to all of us. He allowed the medical field to advance to the point that we all had the opportunity to have this surgery. We are truly blessed. I have people telling me that they wish that they can have this surgery now. Including a relative of mine who has ridiculed me about my weight for years. She was denied the surgery, by the way. So I appreciate your post, and everyone else's. We all are in this together, so why not encourage one another. When you mess up, post it here, you might be stopping me from making the same mistake. We all are human, and love to eat. I mean some of this food is really good, but half of it is not good for us. That's just the truth. So let's not be afraid to admit when we make mistakes, and mess up. Admit it and let's be there for each other. I know we don't know one another, but that's what the forum is for. You don't have to know me or see me to be an inspiration. I want all of us to live and be healthy. Be encouraged!!

I started drinking some drinks about........on 3-4 months out. No beer and no carbonation. My drink of choice is Cucumber Vodka with Water.....and if I get really crazy a shot of tequila You are a cheep date after. I won't get behind the wheel even if I have a half of a drink because I never truly know how the drinks will hit my, watch yourself cause everytime will be different. I do not go out for drinks unless I have my husband or a friend that is a REALLY good friend who knows my surgery history ( I kept my surgery secret to almost everyone) that way if they notice I hit a wall fast they take me home.

VSGAnn....I am doing so much better! Thank-You for asking! I had a mental lapse, that wanted to eat. I know it seemed as though I had eaten a lot....actually, had eaten just a bite of the things I mentioned. I did not eat the whole thing! Anyways, there is so much "unknown" once you are sleeved and everyone has different directions and experiences. I gave in to myself and ate some things I shouldn't have....BUT..Since then, I have been doing well....Not eating the bad, only the good! I do feel better every day! I have lost 30 pounds since my surgery on 7/3.

WOW!! I was hoping to get some encouragement or understanding from this group. Instead.....I receive judgement and shame. I don't think I could ever be as mean to another person as some of your replies were to me. I know what I did was very wrong....and I felt extremely bad about it....what I didn't expect was the hurtful way in which some of you responded! I did not realize that NO ONE ELSE EVER made a mistake!! Guess you are all angels....and have never done something you are ashamed of!! Well....may God continue to bless your perfect lives!!

I'm learning quickly from this app that many doctors all over the world have different eating rules. I'm reading about people having surgery the same day(July 24) as me eating bacon crackers. I couldn't imagine what my stomach would do with that. For me it's baby steps. Fear a perforated stomach. Don't want that. They say it's painful and dangerous.

I didn't lose hair after my band in 2001 but in fairness I didn't lose much weight either. I lost hair several months post sleeve but I started with a crap load so wasn't a problem. I can understand the concern but please don't decide about wls based on TEMPORARY Hair loss. Look at my profile pix. ... I look so much better even if I had gone bald...lol

sasburg reacted to Justine44 in Band to sleeve revision and pain
Hi all...I to had the band removed in 2013 by Dr. Uchal here in Jacksonville, Fl. I was in pain for a short time after especially where the port was. However, with time the pain and numbness subsided.
For the past year now I have been debating to get the sleeve operation.
Last July Dr. Uchal, Jody (Bariatric Nutricionist) and I met to discuss the option. I was asked to lose at least 25 lbs before he would consider it. I went back in Sept with my goal being met. However, with all the emotional strains I was going through at that time, Dr. said "No" to performing the surgery because he knew my mind set and my emotions weren't ready for me to fully succeed. I was not happy with the feedback and was angry for a little bit. Deep In my heart and mind I knew he was right...After that day, I decided to put aside the surgery mindset and some family matters to concentrate on Myself. It was all too much stress for me. I knew I had to FOCUS...
Well,Yesterday I met with Dr. Uchal and Jody here in Jacksonville once again. I lost 50 lbs since last July!!! and you know what? I just took control and really just made it about me while still being there for my family just in smaller doses. Kind of like my food consumption and food choices. It took quite a bit of adjusting. Please don't get me wrong... I love my family to infinity and they too had to adjust to me not being so overly involved. I had to accept many things and accept that there will always be challenges and happenings beyond my control. The only person I have control over is me...I can still love and be supportive to them within My Boundaries and be there in emergencies.
So, that being said, the Dr. and Jody agreed that I was Truly mentally ready to move forward in order to succeed with the sleeve surgery. Now I just need to be approved through my insurance while still deciding if I should proceed with the surgery. While thinking to myself "I think am strong enough and have the Will Power to do this on my own BUT..."
I have struggled all my life with being Obese since the age of 7.
So, Do I or do I not proceed with the surgery? The band put me in a whirl spin of years of pain and frustration.
So, anyone who is Sleeved post-op, could you please tell my your struggles, pain levels, ups & downs, hair loss, deficiencies, food tolerance, depression if any?
Thanks for reading & All the best to US!!...

Girly girl I got my band in November of 2005. I had the same experience as you. At first I did very well. Lost about 90 pounds but band was very tight lived on Protein Shakes. In pain just drinking. Then I got stuck once on broccoli and thought I was having a heart attack Never got to that sweet spot. Miserable. I decided to get the band removed and sleeved in one procedure scheduled for April 1. It is a hard decision to make but the years go by so fast. I was also angry with myself. But I know that I can't do it without the sleeve. Do some soul searching. We have all been through the endless diets, pills . I don't want to let any more of my life slip away. I know it us a huge decision. You know what you need to do. Good luck in your decision making. We are here for you.

I'd put my money on a world renowned surgeon, personally. Most people find out that what he says about the band is true. I know I found out the hard way. She posted in Band Complications forum and was attacked for it. It's wrong.

It's ridiculous that none of these people have apologized to you. You posted helpful information on the correct forum and got wrongfully attacked for it. You are owed an apology. If people can't bother to read which forum it's posted in that's their problem not yours.

sasburg reacted to Skyvic in Too Tight Weeks After Fill. Is This Possible?
It's a pattern for me. Fill day and two days after on full liquids. So maybe that shrinks the tummy a little. By the second week I feel tighter and question the fill. By the third week I have adjusted and can eat normal but smaller portions with a couple stuck episodes. It takes me a good three weeks to get back to normal including my strength, energy, and even mood!
