  1. Its all calories. However you get them just don't have to many. If you're going to make it many small meals then keep track of the calorie count-religiously.

Everyone is different but are you still taking pain meds? If not then do take them. Liquid Tylenol works great for most folks.but if your Dr gave you a scrip- use it.

Hi Im one of those folks you were talking about and I have to say those feelings have passed. Im not sure why I had them at all because I did alot of research and was/am very comfortable with my decision. I did get super support here at LBT. If you've done your homework you will be fine! Keep a list of the reasons you want to do this and refer back to it often. Regarding the diet, are you getting enough protein? Try adding some either with protein powder or the protein shots from the health food store. Good luck.
  4. I had a bit of a scare in the mall yesterday. I had some soup and a few minutes later my stomach was a bit unnerved. Well I went to the health food store and got some ginger. That and alot of water to wash it through seemed to help. I did get diarrhea, but I didn't puke. I got really nervous thinking about getting sick and the band slipping.

  6. Hey Fenton, I'm curious you said you work around medical folks, what do you do? You sound very knowledgeable in the workings of the field. Also I know someone on the Island looking for a new Dr, do you think NYU would take on someone they didn't band?
  7. Hi all 11 days post op. Im getting a handle on the emotional stuff. No pain. A little "pulling" under the port. Incision look good. Keeping to the liquid, still not enough water. I did go to the movies today and REALLY wanted the popcorn. Fenton I don't know how you went to two, I don't think I will be going back for a long time. I just kept hearing crunch, crunch, crunch.Smelling the fake butter. I LOVE popcorn and I hear popcorn doesn't love the band.
  8. Ive been taking the chewables. maybe I will look into the liquid
  9. I had a rough time in the hospital(not medically, emotionally). The last couple of days have been tough for me. Lots of questioning my decision to get the band. But I'm coming to understand that is normal. I'm going to give the support group a try, although Im getting alot of support from LBT. I just found out that my insurance authorized the surgery as an outpatient and is not going to cover the overnight part. They said the hospital will be eating that cost because they told them it was not covered and I was kept anyways. I wish it was outpatient, I really could have skipped that hospital stay all together. I never want to go back there.
  10. Cocolossel-have you been using your breathing device? I forgot what they called it. It is to help open up your lungs after surgery and help prevent pneumonia. And pneumonia would hurt to breathe. Check with the dr.
  11. I think this is the busiest thread on the boards. Im gone one day and there are new people and 3 pages to read. Im doing better thanks to all the great support from LBT. Thank all!! My pre op visit was 2 hours because they used the chest xray,barium/upper gi, EKG & stress test from the testing my Dr had me do before scheduling surgery. It should have been shorter but an Anesthesiologist couldn't be found to have the interview. I just had blood drawn, pee taken to prove I wasn't pregnant and a talk with a RN letting me know of the risks.
  12. I seem to be coming out of the fog. It is amazing to read all the good ideas and warm support on these boards. Sometimes I get a little scared reading about others tough times, band slips, erosions, food limitations. I guess I need to stay away from those posts for a while and "not put the cart in front of the horse" Again thank you all.
  13. banded on 3/4 so a little over a week.
  14. everyones got some in there system its when it runs a muck and starts having a party with friends that you have to worry. Just let you Dr know. Good Luck!

  16. They use a tube that goes into your stomach to size where the band goes and they aren't going to do that with you awake. I was told that they use a mighty powerful muscle relaxant because they need to be poking through the abdominal muscles and they don't want them fighting back(also why they told me they use a catheter during surgery). Don't worry about the stuff that will be happening while you're "out of it" there is enough stuff that you will need to concern yourself with. Learning to use your new tool is just the beginning. Good luck.
  17. I think I just got my butt kicked into gear. Thanks Fenton. Im not a sole searching kind of person. I tend to stuff things into neat pigeon holes. Im beginning to understand that isn't going to work with the whole band thing. The band doesn't like to be stuffed. yep Im getting about 800 cals and 65-70 gm protein-same as the two weeks pre-op
  18. Thanks HarleyGirl I have to find out where my inner cheerleader wondered off to. she was going strong until a few days ago.
  19. It all seemed to hit me. I may never eat regular again. I now have surgical scars on a body that had never even been to a hospital. I mean Im having BIG time doubts about this and I can't change back. It's not like ANYTHING Ive ever done before. I had this thing put in. It was my choice, Im the only one to blame. I really did a lot of research before the surgery but nothing could prepare me for how Im feeling. I was really thinking about making myself puke so it would slip and have to be removed. I really shouldn't be complaining I get a good nights sleep. Ive been sleeping on my stomach since the first night in the hospital. Drinking my 5 meals getting all my protein. Not getting enough water, but whatever. Going on walks with the DH to get exercise. Im not really in pain, just discomfort. I wish I could be more psyched about this but right now I'm just trudging through the day thinking I've made the worst mistake of my life and pissed at myself for putting my family, body and mind through this. I know this is not what you guys want to hear but It's how Im feeling. I think Im getting depressed. __________________ UPDATE If you're reading this please know that Im fine and after a few days I wrapped my mind around stuff. I'm doing really well and am happy with my decision.

  21. Andi you're really sweet, thank you. I was bitching to my sister a little while ago and she told me to go post on the boards. Get support from those that are in the same position. I just never thought of myself as weak and this thing has me pinned to the mats.

  23. First off- I too have that sharp feeling below my port. I asked the Dr & he said that it is very common and the muscle they worked on/through runs up and down so the little bit of muscle that was cut isn't yet supporting the muscle below it. Just take it easy, he said. Second- I had a bit of a melt down last night. It all seemed to hit me. I may never eat regular again. I now have surgical scars on a body that had never even been to a hospital. I mean Im having BIG time doubts about this and I can't change back. It's not like ANYTHING Ive ever done before. 24. there is a new trial going on where they are cutting the nerves to the stomach at banding to see if that has any effect on the recovery/weight loss/pain of banders. Should be interesting.
  25. I love that rapid blast tylenol. I think it works faster then the pills. A tip to the next to be banded- bring a small bottle of mouth wash to the hospital. Your mouth will feel like cotton and just swishing & spitting will feel heavenly. This might be contraband in you hospital so keep it in your over night bag and sneak a sip then use tissue to absorb. :huh2:
